Well, I hadn't give that much thought, but for now let's say there's something like Fate's Throne of Heroes, where supernatural spirits exist and where spirits of heroes end up. This is what we know as 'The Spirit World', where spirits come from, but normal humans after they die they just go derp. Or something like that. :P Kinda like they reach whichever thing they believed in, but if I continue here I'll be entering a very philosophical matter and I'm to lazy.

In part, yes, but only IF their connection with the spirit world becomes thinner, and there aren't many things that can help you with that. One example of something like that is someone that temporarily dies, but is brought back to life, like when your heart stops and through defibrillators they make it react again.

Well, the Connector wouldn't have any other option than to believe them. There are special types of Connectors, though, who are the ones that can detect what spirit you have, but said Connectors are a very rare breed. But spirits with a good will, like Merlin, wouldn't lie of such a thing, so a lying spirit is from those who were villains.

@ERode, well, when you first come into contact with your spirit they (usually) state their name, and even if they don't, the Connector can find out by seeing the relations between his powers and myths. And their identities are confirmed after you start using their powers (At least in the case of famous spirits), because, well, even if a spirit claimed that it was King Arthur and couldn't bring out Excalibur, that'd be fishy, don't ya think? :P

Basically, by the usage of powers is how they confirm who or what their spirits are.

@shadowkiller, good to know, I hope that over the course of those days we don't do much, maybe next plot post and that's a maybe.
