@Silver Carrot Yeah, I gotcha, I agree the amount, tone, and setting is important when even considering it. That would be over the top for me in nearly any RP lol.

I dunno if I live in a really depressing area or something, but I can't relate to characters with 100% happy, carefree backstories so I can make them edgy. I guess because that's more relatable personally. I even add some relatability to antagonists. Can't think of anyone I know who didn't have some childhood trauma of a various type, or who wasn't affected by things like addictions even if by extension of more distant family members. Struggling within themselves is common too.
I can, however, imagine times where it is inappropriate and certainly plenty of times where it's over the top or obnoxious. So "there's a time and a place" rings true.
