That was… quite a lot to take in. Accommodations this, celebrations that. As of now all Makoto wanted was a hot meal and a decent shower. Food came first, of course. Snack bars with weird smelling raisins in them weren't going to be enough to set her growling stomach at peace. God knows where all of that bento box food from last night had gone.
It was when the very red woman (for the lack of a better description) began announcing teams that Makoto's ears pricked up.
"Team 2: Lloyd, Gil, Marith, Makoto."
"Uwah, are you serious?" Makoto exclaimed, loud enough for the people surrounding her to hear. She knew it would be unlikely for Gil to make it onto a team with her, but the fact that he had blew her mind. Seriously, what were the chances of that ever happening? There were two people who's names she didn't know, however. Someone by the name of Lloyd and another by the name of Marith. New interactions with new people were always fun for Makoto.
But first, food.
And getting past the guy she had just slammed herself in to. because that's how all amazing encounters supposedly happen.
"Ah... Darn it. My bad. Didn't mean to slam into you like that. Really, it's the truth!"
That last sentence would hopefully cause her less trouble. Makoto wasn't one to purposely make enemies with someone; her truthful tongue just tended to slice people's self esteem a bit. However, there was something about this blondie that made Makoto a bit more cautious.
"By the way, you know anyone here going by the name of Gil? It's one hell of struggle trying to find your teammate in this swarm of students."
Forgetting to keep eye contact with this new encounter, Makoto scanned the smaller heads of the human sea. The girl then sighed.
One of the only situations where I wish I was taller.
and here we observe Vera in her natural habitat, talking to herself because people can't look after fucking flowers
Vera Rosenberg
The Gardens The day went on just as Vera had predicted. The lessons finished in the blink of an eye, lunch didn't seem all that time consuming at all, and now Vera had settled herself down in the gardens, eyeing the colourful flower beds. This place was probably the only area where she could find some sort of peace from the other much louder students roaming around. And the much louder areas in general.
She didn't want annoying people coming in her line of sight.
Just like last year, Vera would tend to the flowers daily, making sure they were in brilliant, bright shape. There were some other students who would come to water the plants, students Vera had once conversed with, but the young Rosenberg seemed to be the most regular visitor. The girl continued to water the flowers in front of her, smiling down at the blossoming petals.
"Oh, that won't do."
Seeing the dying flower bed to her left, Vera zoomed over with her watering can. The girl sighed, crouching down to examine the plants.
"Goodness me, do some of these students not know how to properly care for a withering flower bed? A vast majority of garden plants simply require water and sunlight to be able to grow and flourish, but it seems some people are too... idiotic to notice such a simple fact."
Ah, the 'abuse' of flowers always got Vera in a bundle. She hated it when the flowers weren't cared for properly. It was a bit… sad, really. Vera seemed to care more for a rose's well being rather than another person's.
Maybe in a few minutes time she would head over back to her dorm and rest up. Maybe.
Faye is a very petite young woman, who is definitely much older than she looks. With her large blue eyes, small face and long wavy hair, it isn't unusual to see this woman using her childish looks to deceive her opponents. She's often seen in white and green bell sleeved dress that comes down to her knees, combat boots and a simple short cape with jagged edges. Her looks have often been compared to that of a fairy, with her thin build, pretty face and graceful movements. Faye stands at a mere 5'0. Her pointed ears and stunted growth are a sign of her mutation.
Gear: A very large pair of bladed fans which Faye calls her 'Wings'. They're actually quite captivating to look at, the colours ranging from light pinks to deep purples.
Abilities: A strange mutation in Faye's body has enabled her to jump much higher than the average human and extreme acrobatic skills (including amazing balance). She also possesses very fast reflexes and speed. Her grace and little to no effort in slicing down large numbers of people is what earned her the name 'Titania'.
Personality: Outwardly fun and cheerful, Faye is one of the supposedly more laid back members of the Huntsman Clan. She enjoys teasing others every now and then, and is actually very playful and a nice person to hang around. Although her words can sting sometimes, Faye isn't a bad person, and cares deeply for her close friends. Her drive to create a better world can be seen through her much more calm and serious side, and even if she does have some childish tendencies she will never be one to go into battle without a plan. Although not that old, Faye thinks of herself to be a wise woman, and doesn't hesitate to give advice to other people if needed.
Notes: Faye has a tendency to twirl her hair whenever she's talking to someone.
Shared Backstory:
The tale of these two women is a rather long one; but in a nutshell, we can say that these two have been through a lot together.
Any memories of Faye's parents are merely just vague, distorted images. For as long she could remember, Faye had always been part of a small circus that would travel around the city every now and then. Her natural talent for tightrope walking and amazing acrobatic skills was immediately noticed, and she soon became one of the stars of the show. Always dressed in her famous fairy costumes, the name Titania would always ring a bell in the circus's audience.
And so, Faye continued to live and perform, ceasing to age once she hit thirteen. It was when she was sixteen when she came across a wounded child while strolling through the darkness. If not for this certain girl's striking red hair, then Faye would have turned a blind eye towards her soon-to-be best friend.
Bruises and cuts covered the girl's skin, much to Faye's horror. The teen knew stuff like this happened, but she never thought she would see it with her own eyes. The girl, who looked around thirteen or so, refused to speak even a word. All she did was shake in her torn clothes and reddened skin. Of course, Faye took pity on the seemingly abused girl, dragging her back to the circus in hopes she could stay and be looked after for a while. Surprisingly enough, they did, but they would have to let the red head roam elsewhere after a week or so.
However, a day before she was to be sent on her way, Amaya displayed something that would eventually earn her a spot in the circus. After Faye had dropped a coin and struggled to reach for it, Amaya would lift up the large wardrobe with her own two hands. Faye couldn't recall anyone displaying superhuman strength in the circus yet.
So, Amaya stayed.
Although not as popular as the famous Titania, Amaya earned the simple stage name 'Roux'. Her display of her immense brute strength shocked the crowd, and soon enough Titania and Roux where the highlights of the show. This would go on until Faye turned twenty and Amaya turned ten; that was when things took a turn for the worst.
It all started off as just a walk in the dark with those two girls. Then, out of nowhere, bandits surrounded them, threatening them to empty out their pockets. These bandits where much more well equipped than Faye and Amaya had previously thought, and the two somehow got separated. With Faye being beaten to the ground and Amaya being held back on the floor, their deaths seemed inevitable.
"Leave her alone," where Amaya's first words in a long while.
And with that said, the group of bandits where smashed into the alleyway walls. Literally smashed into them, flesh, blood and all.
The 'foolish' act of Amaya would lead her to be thrown out of the circus completely. Nobody wanted a murderer walking around on stage. Knowing the young girl couldn't possibly look after herself on the streets (even if she was already 5'9 at the age of ten), Faye followed, letting the stage name Titania fade away from people's memories. Six years later, the two figured it was about time they found a way to make a use for their useless selves.
And the Huntsman Clan would definitely be able to fuel their needs.
Name: Amaya
Call sign: Roux
Age: 16 (appears to be 25-26 years old)
Appearance:
Unlike her close friend, Amaya is a very tall, muscular girl who is much younger than she looks. Her face and eyes are quite sharp and angular, and she is the literal opposite of Faye. She prefers much darker colours, donning a black raincoat that reaches her waist and a dark blue top and pants underneath. Most people tend to stay away from her, with her beady eyes and towering body. Amaya stands at a staggering 6'5.
Gear: A strong, bullet proof umbrella with a large, sharp tip at the end. Amaya treats this weapon like a rapier, but uses other features of the umbrella to defend herself (a button that automatically springs the umbrella open).
Abilities: Her superhuman strength is truly terrifying, capable of shattering bricks like glass and even denting steel. Amaya also has an extremely high pain tolerance, and has even been rumoured to not being able to feel pain at all (this is far from the truth, however).
Personality: Her scary looks differ very much from her Amaya's actual personality; extremely shy, extremely awkward and rarely speaks a couple of words a day, this girl isn't too comfortable with interacting with others, unlike the sociable Faye. She's extremely self conscious of her height and her 'masculine' figure, being only sixteen years of age and still developing physically and mentally. Amaya's always seen lingering behind Faye, and usually let's her do the talking. She shares close bonds with the people she really trusts, and tries her best to come out of her shell every once in a while. Amaya is probably one of the sweetest people out there; you just need to get a bit closer to her first.
Notes: Because she rarely speaks, some have created a small 'competition' in which they try to get Amaya to say at least seven sentences a day (which has only succeeded about once or twice). This results in many comedic situations, due to Amaya's oblivious nature.
The Rose warriorress simply smiled at the two newcomers. She didn't want to make… well, too much of an unnecessary fuss after all. Vera hadn't come across a woman with a spider's lower half before. As for the fox girl? She seemed nice enough. Both of the supposed yokai were actually pretty tolerable, thankfully.
"Indeed. It's a pleasure to meet the both of you, Yume, Ayame."
"So, I personally think that we need a little introductory session to start getting acquainted with each other. Everyone says their name, where they're from, what kind of magic they do, and something that might be interesting about them. I'll start."
That wasn't a bad idea at all. At least this way Vera could get some sort of insight on her new roommates. She would need it.
"What a wonderful idea!" Vera said, clasping her hands together with a smile. "I would be lovely to get to know the rest of you."
"Hi, I'm Alicia. I'm from Pennsylvania, my magic enables me to control plants, and I like to draw in my spare time."
Another sweet smile overshadowed Vera's true, bitter demeanour.
"Well, it's nice to see that we have another Bratus mage among us. As you may or might not know from the dorm arrangements, my name is Vera Rosenberg, and my original home was in a countryside in England. As for my magic, I have the ability to create and manipulate roses, big or small. I don't think there is anything too notable about me, but I do enjoy gardening and tending to flowers. It really is hobby that sets your emotions at peace, and certainly love it for that."
Putting her fingertips to her mouth, Vera's voice drifted off. She chuckled, taking a more sheepish appearance.
"Forgive me, I didn't mean to drag on for so long… Oh my goodness, that introduction made me sound so conceited, didn't it…"
"Eh-heh, um... I was made about... eight months ago now, I think! I'm the newest super-human-like robot, they made me as accurate as possible and then filled me up with all kinds of weapons, so that's why I'm a hero!"
Huh. Seemed pretty normal for a super high-tech era such as this one.
"Ah… I see."
After finishing the last bits of her soup in one gulp, Aya rushed back into her bathroom. The ramen was good, but getting rid of that spray paint stain so she wouldn't get sued by this robot's institute or whatever would be even better. Just like last time, Aya came out with a bar of soap, a bucket of water and a simple cloth. She looked down at Kiko, hoping the machine girl wouldn't think to weird about the stuff she was holding in her hands.
"So, uh… You've got this little paint splodge on your face, so I'll clean it off for you, yeah? I mean, I don't think the scientists back at your institute would like to see their latest robot vandalised by a certain B-Class hero. Just, er, sit still, 'kay?"
Aya then kneeled down beside Kiko and began to wipe the troublesome paint that had resulted in this crazy situation becoming a reality. I mean, technically kidnapping (but not really) a super human-like robot and having a bowl of ramen with it? For Aya, it was either she experienced extremely mundane situations (save for some superheroine ass kicking) or very awkward and unusual moments.
It was a very weird and silent few minutes, but the paint finally came off, much to Aya's relief. The woman sighed before sinking into her sofa.
"So… I guess you'll be leaving then? I mean, I've dealt with my problems, you've dealt with yours so…"
Aya lightly scratched the side of her face. How was she supposed to send this girl off? She didn't want to be rude, nor did she want to to keep her here even longer getting all sentimental for some reason. Plus, she was a fellow heroine, too. She couldn't just shove her out of the apartment and call it a day.
"Well, um… It was nice having you here, I guess. That ramen you cooked up was pretty good too! I mean, it's actually kinda nice eating ramen with someone… It does get quiet around here I guess-"
Shit. How did that just slip out? Fuck, now's not the time to be acting all sentimental! You're already looking creepy enough as it is!
"Uh, I mean, you can go now! Uh, hope I see you some time I guess? Ah, crap…"
It was just slip up after slip up. She needed to calm down before bidding her goodbyes to Kiko. Putting a smile on her face, Aya looked up.
"It was nice having ya here, robot girl. Hope we see each other some other time, yeah?"
Everything seemed to flash by Makoto's eyes in an instant. First she was shoving a card in her new friend's face, then an even larger clump of metal made its extravagant entrance, along with someone's extravagant speech.
And now she was in the courtyard, listening to one of the most frightening lectures she had ever heard during her sixteen years on this earth.
"Even the ones who displayed some measure of actual skills failed in some basic assessments that would have got you killed, were that a real mission."
Maybe I smashed down too many robots. Plus, I did run into that massive swarm in the first place... Distracted or not, that situation could've easily been avoided!
Well, there wasn't anything she could do about it now. What happened in the past can't be changed. It was a sad, but simple truth.
Note to self: Don't get distracted and don't make the Senior Instructor mad. Like, ever.
"The doors to the inner hall are open as well, if you choose to cross them, know that your lives will be mine to do as I please, until I have molded you all into what a true Chaser is."
With that said, the rose vines revealed the academy doors underneath. One more chance. One more chance for Makoto to make up for her mistakes.
One more chance to possibly make even more mistakes.
If she chose to stay or not, there would still be many, many outcomes, good and/or bad. Makoto didn't want to hold anyone down, nor lead herself to her own downfall either. If she crossed into Akatsuki Academy territory, who knows what would happen next?
"Being a Chaser is not about justice, nor heroism, or any other of those romantic lies. It's a job to keep those who can't fight safe, just that."
A job to keep those who can't fight safe.
'You'll fight all those baddies for us, right sis?'
Tilting her head down from everyone's sight, a smile crossed Makoto's face. Then, looking up, she walked towards the main hall, following the other soon-to-be Chasers brave enough to give this another shot.
'Mm. I will, Michiko.'
Makoto had strength. But not enough. Not yet. However, if she had the ability to change the world and protect everyone else in it, then she would fight for it no matter how harsh the conditions would be.
