Teresa ‘Terry’ Clarke | 17 | Female
Appearance:Standing at 5’10 and still growing, Terry is one of the scarily taller girls out there (for her age, anyway). She has a fit, athletic build from years of being the kid who took P.E class way too seriously, and platinum blonde, usually fluffy (and thin) hair that becomes very knotted if not brushed every morning. Being your sort of typical looking caucasian teenager, she has a few spots here and there, but most of them are prevalent on her forehead. She's not exactly busty either, but what she lacks in curves she makes up for in long limbs and a well toned body.
Powers:INAUDIBILITY: Terry is basically a walking ghost. She makes no noise, can make no noise, and no matter how hard she tries, her voice will not be heard. Every step she takes is silent. Every move she makes is silent. There's no getting any actual words out of this girl anymore. She's even capable of making things silent on touch - for example if she was to touch a baseball bat and swing it, you wouldn't get that 'swoosh' sound. Or if she were to run a hairbrush through her hair it wouldn't make a sound.
Weaknesses/Limitations: Basically, her strength is her weakness; her speech cannot be heard. If she's in pain, nobody can hear her screams. And that's one of the scariest things about her power. She has to communicate through writing things down on notepads or post it notes, and if there's nothing around her that she can use as makeshift paper, well, hard luck. The aspect of not being able to be heard by anyone terrifies Terry the most. Being the tall girl she is, it's not that easy for her to just shrink down into a little ball and cry either. What's worse than that, you say?
Even though she can hear her own screams, nobody else can.
On the subject of ‘silencing’ objects, if Terry decides to make an item inaudible then it will really only last for about three minutes or so. Although she is only able to use it for a short period of time, it does give her a bad headache if she exceeds her time limit. Objects will not automatically become silent if Terry has touched them, as she can do this by will.
Personality:After her power had manifested, Terry's often outgoing personality took a complete 180. She comes of as distant and introverted, but what stands out most about her as that she is paranoid as hell. If you try touching her in the slightest, she will hit you; she dreads experiencing a situation where she isn't able to cry for help. It's always been a tendency of hers to predict the worst out of every situation. She seems to shuffle a lot rather than walk like a normal human being - even though she technically isn't one - and her eyes aren't ever in a fixed position, always scanning the surroundings and observing the people she passes. If you think getting to know her will be easy, then you are very,
very wrong. Terry won't let you come into her personal space, let alone actually speak to her. She's that hard to gain trust from. Oh, and she gets scared pretty easily. A surprise attack in her eyes feels like someone attempting to murder her. So no jump scares, please.
Forming a stable friendship with Terry nowadays isn't easy, but once you get to know her, the girl has a heart of gold. Being around people she feels she can trust is the best feeling in the world to her. She feels safe and secure, and even though her words can't be heard you can tell how kind she can be. If you fall, she'll be there to pick you up. She values friends more than anything, and will stick to you like glue no matter what you have to go through.
Backstory:With her parents expecting (and hoping) that their child would be able to live a normal life, Teresa Clarke was born somewhere in District 8 one cold November. It was from the moment she could properly think that she expected to live a mundane, cozy life in this world of chaos, but as long as she had food, shelter and her family, then it was all good. Luckily, her parents were at the higher end of the stick, and bagged themselves some relatively high paying jobs. This meant food, shelter and thankfully, an education.
In school, Terry discovered just how good at sport she was. She was a fast runner, great at long distance, and her rapidly growing height gave her a slight advantage when trying to stretch her legs out in long jump. Her childhood was basically sugarcoated with loving friends, loving family, and basketball. What could possibly go wrong?
When her ability manifested, it was like the end of the world. After twisting her ankle in an empty basketball court, there was no way for her to communicate to any passersby. She would hear her screams for help, but nobody else could. It was when Terry attempted to call her mother over the phone that she realised something was wrong. With her mother's constant repeating of Terry's name, there was definitely something off. Ending the call, she limped back home which was thankfully not too far away.
Once she arrived home, Terry would attempt to speak to her mother of the little accident but to no avail. It was clear to her mother that there was something very,
very wrong. Not being able to hear her daughter's voice at all? Only being able to see her mime the words that should have been heard on normal circumstances? That wasn't natural, especially since she had head Terry shout a goodbye before leaving the house.
It was a scary few months. Terry knew what was going to happen to her. She would be taken away. Her dreams of becoming a basketball player shattered. Her hopes of living a peaceful life gone. Her already prevalent paranoia and over observant tendencies skyrocketed, making her so fearful of the types of bad people she knew outside that she wouldn't even take a step outside her door, and the idea of not being able to speak to her parents properly anymore was devastating. There was however that one day where she took a step into the outside world.
And that was the day of the Tests.
Talents/Skills: Terry's one hell of a basketball player, but has probably lost her touch after staying cooped up in her house for so long. Her handwriting is probably the most amazing thing in the world, though. Like, how can one have writing so neat?
Quirks/Habits/Other:• Has a strong dislike towards the cold. Ironically, Terry has been noted to have unnaturally cold skin.
• She fidgets with her fingers. A lot.
• For some reason, snapping trees and stomping on dead leaves seems to relax her. Maybe she likes that crinkly crunch sound.
TL/DR: The loneliest girl in the world with a paranoia level of over 9000.
