Bio

Hi. I'm Matt. You could say I'm a Case of Identity...

1. The Important Stuff: Faith and salvation

I am a Christian. I believe the KJV Bible and that God is real, Jesus died for me, Jesus rose again and offered salvation to the world. Heaven is real, Hell is hot and the only escape is Christ. I accepted salvation the only way you can: by admitting I was a sinner (and I still am), believing that Jesus died for me and rose again, and calling on Him to save me. Anyone can do it anytime and be granted eternal life.

"Matt, why are you saying all of this?" you ask.

Because last time I was here, I did a crap job of establishing that and just tried to 'fit in.' I'm going to add a little more of this to my characters and to my signature, because it's the right thing to do and because there's freedom on these kinds of sites. Not to an extent that interrupts/derails the story, though. Your game, your rules.

2. The Actual Bio:

Hi guys. I'm Matthias Emmanuel Angel, I'm 24, and this is where I spend time when I'm not doing other things (church, homework, studying, video games).

///
What I like:
-Landscape Management (my major)
-Guitar (over a decade of experience and not much to show for it)
-PC Games (gave up on Xbox, no regrets)
-RPGs (I play them too often though)
-Water instead of soda (oooo look at how healthy I am)
-Google SketchUp (awesome 3D models, free download)
-The number 23 (it's the best number)
///
What I don't like:
-Profanity (especially when it's just filler in comedy)
-Lewd content and porn (and anyone bragging about it)
-Gory movies (how are they going to get butchered this time?)
-Jerks (you aren't a jerk, are you?)
-Insects (kill them all)
-Dying in video games (and forgetting to save)
///

I realize, of course, that this site doesn't have limits on profanity of lewd content. No worries. I'll work around it, and won't join up with RPs rated 18+. If you feel like it will be a problem, let me know BEFORE the RP starts.

3. Other Internet Presence:

You can find me in a couple other places.

Armor Games: MattEmAngel
Steam: club_blizzy
...and Comments here, of course.

See you in another world.
-Matt

Ok then. and about your CS. It's good... Buuuut can be improved. for one, the ability. I'm guessing what you mean by electricity/lightning is electrokinesis or Electricity Generation. and your appearance. I better say this now and add it too the rules. But could you use an IRL photo. I don't care who, but it be easier to work with. an be a tiny bit more descriptive with the written form? and the personality needs to be bigger. If you have skype we can chat and talk about your character.

Essentially electricity generation. Also, sorry but I'm not using an IRL photo. I can draw him from a few different angles and stuff but Matt and Amie are OCs and it's far easier to work with them when I can draw them, and I'm not going to creep through photos of other people online to find one similar to my character. Not sure what else you need for the description.

Character sheet:
Name: Amethyst "Amie" Jane
Age: 22
Gender: F
Appearance:
Dirty blonde hair, hazel eyes, black shirt, light blue jeans, sneakers, silver dog tag necklace with an "A" on it. Wears rectangular glasses for reading.

Personality: Cheerful and warm. Ready to take responsibility if the need arises. More of a nerd than a chic, although she keeps her living area clean. Spends free time on her PC and kickboxing at the university gym twice a week. She drinks strawberry smoothies, prefers the color blue and can cook if she absolutely, positively has to.

History: Amie was born into a completely average family. Her parents are still alive and married. She was a n avid reader as a child and her desire for knowledge carried over to public school. She's majoring in Computer Science in college. Single, never had a boyfriend. Romance has never been a concern, and she's satisfied with Matthias Angel as her best friend. She "met" him when she transferred high schools in 10th grade. He was he only person sitting alone, looking irritated and bored. Amie, an only child, knew how being alone felt and decided that she was going to keep him company whether he liked it or not. He didn't, initially. It took a month for him to even take notice of her existence. By the end of high school they were having actual conversations at times.

They ended up attending the same college and, since Amie lived too far from the college of her choice, she decided to rent an apartment and live on her own (although she visits her parents every other weekend). She suspected that Matt agreed to room with her because he wanted to stay in contact with her, but it was equally likely that he had nowhere better to go. Amie doesn't have any real friendships with other girls, or boys for that matter. She replaced reading as a child with coding and PC games and values comfort over beauty. She has above average intelligence and her GPA is excellent (although it has taken a few hits from mathematics and history). Now that she's in college, she lives in a shared flat with Matt and Joey, her long-hair dachshund.

Shift: Reaction Time (essentially bullet time)
Strengths: Time slows down to a crawl, allowing her to avoid or respond to an attack, including bullets and other projectiles. Rather than actually change time, she is instead moving insanely fast.
Weaknesses: The power lasts for only a few seconds and cannot be performed in rapid succession. It can result in a headache, as it requires intense mental focus to process events and react to them instantly, and the more it is used without rest, the more severe the headache. It also only works when the threat is visible.

...Love you man *Hugs* But here's the thing. This is going to make writing bios friggin hard for some people. and remember, i said that these powers are activated through fear, sadness and anger. No offence, I think this is GREAT! but it complete ignores my ideas and makes things a little harder to write. Maybe we can try to make it less complicated and work it in with my ideas?

Well I assume that people can control their powers to an extent after a while. I would want to be able to use it at will at some point.

It won't really affect bios at all. No one knows they even have an Alternate Shift. They add it to their character sheet initially, but they don't learn about it until much later, if at all. If nothing else, I'd like to name the powers Shifts.

Character sheet:
Name: Matthias Angel
Age: 23
Gender: M
Appearance:
Black eyes, black hair, grey hoodie, blue jeans, black fingerless gloves, dark grey and white boots.

Personality: Apathetic and relaxed. Dislikes taking responsibility and trying new things. If he has a desk, his feet are propped up on it. Relatively muscular but by no means an athlete. He is a talented artist and spends hours sketching in notebooks but no one has ever seen them (although Amie has been granted the privilege of looking through a few of them). He treats other people with little respect and had succeeded in having zero friends, which is fine with him. People need to solve their own problems.

History: Matt is an only child and was born into a loving family. His father passed away when he was four. As a result, he grew up a bit of a menace, making life difficult for his mother and refusing to socialize with people. He spent a majority of his time in his room, drawing pictures, writing and lying around. Life was boring, people were boring and school was beyond boring. The entirety of his childhood could be summed up in a haiku. He remained stubborn and isolated until 10th grade, when a girl sat next to him at lunch one day at school. She introduced herself as Amie Jane, a new student, and said that he looked lonely.

He eventually began to acknowledge her existence and even had a brief conversation. The two of them because friends in the sense that he talked to her sometimes and she didn't mind being ignored. They ended up attending the same college. Matt decided to finally get some space and move out into an apartment. Amie, who didn't want to drive three hours to the university everyday, offered to split a flat so they could afford it. Since he would rather die than live with someone new, he agreed. As of now, they are roommates and each get plenty of space. Romance is entirely out of the question. Amie is quiet, kind and pays half of the rent. That's good enough for him. He's currently majoring in Computer Science simply because Amie is and he can use her textbooks.

Shift: Lightning/Electricity (essentially electricity generation)
Strengths: Transfers electricity silently through metal surfaces to cause pain, short out electrical circuits, etc. Can also be charged in his hands, creating a visible burst of electricity. Useful for hand-to-hand fighting.
Weaknesses: The electricity drains his energy. If he uses it constantly, he tires at a very rapid rate, leaving him exhausted and weak. If he uses it for too long, it taps into adrenaline, giving him additional power but, when it ends, results in dizziness, temporary paralysis and even blackouts.
Other Information: Best friends with Amie Jane.

*Shifts, not Powers. You are a Shifter, and your power is called a "shift," as it essentially shifts reality in a confined location resulting in a supernatural event. Fire, water, metal, electricity, speed, strength, eyesight, etc can all be shifted, essentially giving you a power.

All Shifts have an alternate extension of themselves. It is discovered upon extensive use of the main shift, through concentration/meditation or through adrenaline. This is called your "Alternate Shift," as it is a new power than can be used as easily as the first.

The process of discovery is called the "Bridge." It is coined from finding a connection, aka a bridge, between two separate powers. They have a similar factor or property, in nature, design, impact or toll on the body and mind. In order to unlock your Alternate Shift, you must locate the Bridge between the two. The term has become a highly confidential password among shifters, shared only with other shifters who show the potential and drive to discover it. It is often used in a more discreet manner as a form of communication between shifters. Phrases like "Have you seen the new bridge?" and "I saw (person''s name) on the bridge yesterday" are small talk among normal people. Only other shifters know that it actually means someone has unlocked their AS and that the speaker has met them.
If a person is pushed to their maximum, wouldn't they have discovered their branch power?

Wait, I just a sweet idea. Scrap the word "power." The people are called Shifters, so let's call the abilities "Shifts." A shift in fire, water, visibility, strength, speed, whatever. You have the ability to shift a fragment of reality into the supernatural. This is called your Shift.

Matt hauled the scientist out of the room not too gently. The more aggressive he was, the more helpless the scientist would appear, giving her an alibi if need be. The hallway had a camera mounted on the wall, swiveling slowly back and forth. Matt waited until it was turned away, then leaned towards the woman's ear

"Do the cameras record audio?" he hissed. His mind was forming a plan as rapidly as possible. Find an isolated location without audio or video. Tell the scientist that he has no intention of killing her and ban her support. Their best option was to stay as close to the cure as possible. Barring that, he wanted to stay as close to people who knew where it was. This building must have record somewhere. Computer logs, formulas, anything. If he left now, he might never get back in and would have to start with nothing.

Matt had already decided he wanted to bring the scientist with him alive. She was no use dead and would be able to give them information on this "virus" and what it entailed. Trying to negotiate through the building armed with whatever keys the woman might have was never going to work.

He also decided to ask her what her name was. But first they had to get somewhere safe.

Well we need to start somewhere with research. Maybe she can give us a key word or something before we escape. A search term or a password or something, but we don't initially know what it is.

Also, they're going to let us escape, right? We have to prove we're good enough to join the utopian society.
I'm interested, but I want to see a solid plot of some kind first. It'll be difficult to replicate Brawls, since they often occur between multiple people fighting each other all at once. Unless players could perform only one attack per turn and must state who they are attacking, and if they are being attacked. We could also make HP a fraction to avoid random percentages KOing other people (which often happens in Brawl)

You could set it up so that each player can either attack or defend on their turn, depending on the actions of other players.

Player:
Attack: They attack a player
Defense: They attempt defend against an attack

Response to Player:
Attack: Attacks coming at them from another Player
Defense: Result of their attempt to defend

Items: GM states that an item has entered the arena

Note that Attack and Defense correlate to each other. Example-
(Mario):
You respawn and are invincible for one turn. No actions
Attack: none
Defense: none

(Link):
Attack: I shoot an arrow at Bowser when he respawns
Defense: none

(Bowser):
You respawn and are invincible for one turn. No actions
Attack: none
Defense: none

(Response to Mario):
Attack: none (no attacks are coming at him)
Defense: none (nothing to defend)

(Response to Link):
Attack: none (no attacks are coming at him)
Defense: none (nothing to defend)

(Response to Bowser):
Attack: Link fires an arrow at you (Attack from Player's turn)
Defense: none (no previous attempt to defend against an attack)

(Mario):
Attack: I shoot a fireball at Link
Defense: none (nothing to defend still)

(Link):
Attack: I throw a bomb at Mario
Defense: none (nothing to defend still)

(Bowser):
Attack: none
Defense: I attempt to jump over the arrow (Defend against Attack)

(Response to Mario):
Attack: Link throws a bomb at you
Defense: none (no previous chance to defend)

(Response to Link):
Attack: Mario shoots a fireball at you
Defense: none (no previous chance to defend)

(Response to Bowser)
Attack: none
Defense: You jump over the arrow for 0 DMG (defense successful)

Items: Sticky Bomb enters the arena (posted by GM)

On their next turn, Link can attempt to block the fireball (or attack and take damage or run for the item and take damage), Mario will attempt to run away from the bomb (or attack and take damage or run for the item and take damage) and Bowser will perform an attack (or run for the item or do nothing).
This is going to be a lot of work if that's how you want to play it.
I'm interested. I tried to join a superpower RP not long ago but the GM retired before it even started.

I'd like to suggest a very basic addition: generally Shifters don't use their powers (to avoid detection, I suppose), but if they use them for an extended period of time their power "branches off" to a slightly different ability. A good example would be Avatar: The Last Airbender, where Toph developed metalbending from extensive training as an earth bender. We can also set it up so that the Shifters do not not know this and either discover it or are told from an older Shifter who has survived.

It could be as simple as a mild power lasting longer or being more powerful, or as clever as it branching into something knew but connected to the first. After all, there are tons and tons of potential superpowers and isolating only one would be a tough choice. You would have to confirm them, of course, and all initial powers should have a weakness of some kind. It might be necessary, since the government is capable of creating their own Shifters and they could tailor them to defeat people with only one power.

Any of that sound good? Also I'm in.
