Hello all~ I have been stalking for a while and asked in PMs if I could join up when the new arc starts. ๐
@Nallore - For the Boss's approval:
Character Quote: "If it isn't broke, don't fix it."
Name: Robin John Marshall
Aliases: "Rob"
Age: Twenty-Nine
Birthday: February 27th, 1979
Ethnicity: Caucasian
Red Lake Native: Yes
Birth Place: Red Lake, Pennsylvania
Place of Residency: His Van โ the Dancing Queen
Gender: Male
Education: High School Dropout
Occupation: Locksmith
Languages: English
Height: 6'3"
Weight: 170 lbs
Body Type: Long, lanky, underweight.
Eye Color: Brown
Hair Color: Brown
Skin Tone: Pale
Tattoos/Scars/Piercings: Tattoos โโ too many to count, with two full-sleeves of skulls, flowers and religious iconography and other ones on his chest and back that are rarely seen. There are a few scars that seem to be from a knife on his arms, and even one on his collarbone, with more 'nicks' under his shirt. It seems more likely they were accidental than on purpose. Robin has his ears and his left eyebrow pierced.
Personal Style: Robin has probably been wearing the same set of t-shirts (one produced for the band he was in, featuring a worn-out alligator) since he was eighteen. They are often paired with ratty jeans torn at the knee in the unfashionable sense. Most of his new clothes are thrifted. He takes with him a 'formal wear' option, which consists of a button-up and a considerably less torn pair of jeans, though certainly past their best.
Sexuality: Bisexual
Relationship Status: Single
Personality: Robin is prickly and always on the defensive, sometimes snappish whenever he feels someone has gotten the better of him or is looking down on him. He doesn't easily pick up on sarcasm. When mouthing-off is unwarranted, more often than not he will come to his senses and apologise, and when the condescension isn't just a figment of his imagination, he tends to forgive and forget very quickly. Robin has always been a second-chances (and third chances, and fourth chances) kind of guy, easy to take advantage of.
Despite his appearance giving strangers the wrong impression, Robin is innately kind and offers his help at any given moment. Yes, he might be a former thief of dubious morality, but he's happy to use his skills to help someone break into their car if they locked their keys inside, or change the locks of vulnerable people free of charge โโ it's not good for business, but it's good for the soul.
Habits: Smoking, picking at scabs.
Hobbies: Card Games, Music, Darts

Life In Red Lake: It is a long-standing tradition in the Marshall family to fight the law, and for the law to win. Robin Marshall has few positive memories of his father, remembered as a town character in Red Lake through sheer power of assholery, but the memory of him being booked by the cops on one of his 'good days' instilled a healthy fear of the boys in blue within his son. The man died in prison not too long after, alone. It isn't as if Robin thinks he didn't deserve it โโ the best times in his childhood all came after his daddy's imprisonment and later death โโ but it serves as a reminder not to be too cocky.
Overall, Robin's childhood was non-descript. He was raised by his mother, now widowed, alongside two older brothers and one much younger half-sister. They were poor, but they never wanted for anything but the shiny new toys other kids had. There was no going hungry or in threadbare clothes. In hindsight, their house was so well-decorated that Robin thinks his mother stole most of her ornaments and pot-plants from the neighbors or the local thrift shops. She did her best, but there was just no controlling the three tearaways that were her sons, so she let them be. They were brought home more than once in cuffs after stealing candy, or using fake I.Ds. Robin's eldest brother even went to juvie. In the local school, few teachers are able to forget the surname Marshall given that they dealt with one after another.
When he was sixteen, Robin's mother died. It changed the dynamic of their household. James stayed behind and got a decent job to support their sister, Josephine. Alex, the second son, was enraged at the unfairness of the world, shortly after heading to prison for repeated accounts of assault, and when he got out, he high-tailed it. And Robin himself? He dropped out of high school, ran away from home and joined an ill-fated rock n' roll band who wanted to travel the USA in a beat-up van. The only problem was their lack of talent.
Half a state later, they broke up. Robin forked over his share of their earnings from gigs to keep the van and their too-optimistic merchandise and stayed in the city on-and-off for a few years. He often visited Red Lake during the summer months, but by the time winter came around he was gone again. Early on, he apprenticed to a "locksmith", learning on the job both how to fit locks and other features of his day-job, and then at night how to break into houses and cars, disable security alarms (when going for the bigger fish) and sneak in and out of an upstairs window.
He also learned the hard-way that there were side-effects of falling deep into the lifestyle. Friends turned his enthusiasm for casual drinking into partying with the sketchiest folk in town. He had a string of lovers, each one with more expensive tastes than the last, which culminated in the worst decision of his life: Nessa Crossโโbut he doesn't like to dwell on heartbreak. When that engagement fell through (very recently) and after he sobered up enough to make the long drive back to the middle of nowhere, he returned to Red Lake to reconnect with old friends and turn a new leaf.
Thoughts On Riley Walker: "I spoke to her once or twice about the usual stuff. The weather, business at the B&B and all that. She's about the same age as my sister, and I don't like to think much on how things might have been. I'm keeping my eye out. Wouldn't feel right to not pitch in now that I'm here."
Thoughts On The Murder: "The mayor was a bit of a dick. I remember this one time, years back, in high schoolโโ but anyway, who he was doesn't matter, does it? Nobody deserves to go like that. All bloody and... Sorry, thinking about it makes me feel like I'm gonna lose my lunch a bit, ya know? From second-hand information, too! I wasn't even here!"
Theme Song: Belle & Sebastian โโ Piazza, New York Catcher
Deviances: Can feel echoes of past, strong emotion tied to an object/location via touch. Usually gives him a nosebleed.
Extra Information:
โข Robin is a vegetarian, on the mailing list for PETA, Greenpeace and various local animal charities.
โข Has never left the country (or the state). Doesn't have a passport.
((Fave: George Sands from Being Human.))
((Wanderlust))
