@MelonHead
I think I'd be a technical person but I'd go to fluff being I'm not good at describing things thoroughly.
MelonHead would you like to judge a battle? I'd like that. how would I go about setting one up? Not saying I have time now for it, but there's a spot to fill an app and list it right?
@xmetawolf
Would you wanna battle?

Find an opponent, decide on the characters you'll both be using and the setting, and then go to the Arena sub-forum and create a thread, make it ranked if you want, or unranked, I'll judge whatever you want. Then you start. If you're using T1 Eden establish that, T1 Eden requires the first poster to introduce their character, describe their equipment and appearance and their location, but not mention their opponent (unless agreed upon beforehand) or their location. The second poster does the same but they can then dictate where their character is in relation to their opponents, usually this is handled by the second poster's character being out of plain sight initially or arriving sometime later.

From there, you can fight. Usually there's a round of talking before that though.
Literally depends on what you want to do with Arena combat here. To be honest, the community is very nearly dead here, or at least, it's gone AWOL which tends to happen when nothing exciting has occurred for a while. If you want to just fight and mess around, hash out whatever rules you like with your opponent and make a thread in the subforum, do whatever, there aren't really any strict guidelines on that. If you want a ranked fight, then agree to an established ruleset with your opponent and ask for a judge in the Arena Chat thread, I'll happily judge a fight for you if you want as all the others have dissapeared.

We -tend- to use T1 Eden here, which is a balancing method for magical powers predominantly, where abilities can be 'prepped' which essentially involves charging an attack in some fashion before unleashing it in a secondary post (think solar beam). The only caveat being you can prep for as long as you want, and magical defences may also be prepped. Numerical superiority in prepping constitutes your ability overcoming your opponents in a direct head-to-head fashion, in that way diverse magical powers are balanced.

Most of the balance in this basically comes down to ensuring you and your opponent have characters that are roughly equal in strength or equipment. This is the most difficult thing to do usually, as it requires you to match-up themes or you have disparities between ordinary men with pistols and magical ninjas with flaming katanas, where the ordinary man with a gun still wins through merit of guns being OP as hell in this sort of setting.

Anyway, you can check out T1 Eden rules here. http://www.roleplayerguild.com/topics/87170-t1-eden-era-and-t1-modern-5-different-takes/ooc#post-3062213]

Other than that, the best way to learn how to -do- Arena fighting is just to read some fights. There are plenty of styles that people use, I'm more technical, I write actions exactly as I mean them to be interpreted with some fluff in between to give an idea of what my character is feeling or thinking, some people tend to go more down the fluff route without really describing their character's actions that closely and leave it up to the 'rule of cool', others are predominantly technical and believe fluff is pointless. It's really up to one's tastes.

Gabriel flinched as the kidnapper shot the unconscious individual in the ambulance’s cab, gritting his teeth at the man’s threat to do the same to Racheli should he not back off.

Like what happens if I let them get away will be any better. Daedalus, talk to me- any sign of his “associates?”

unfortunately, sir, the interference from earlier is still active. i cannot differentiate any better than you can. i’m afraid we’re rather flying blind at the moment.

Of course we are, thought Gabriel, rolling his eyes. He stared down the criminal in front of him, clenching and unclenching his fists, pebbles scattering away from his feet. We do this the hard way, then.

He chuckled, a dark mirthless sound. ”Oh, no, you're certainly not burdened by morals, I can see that- kidnapping an injured, ill girl, that’s low. But it’s not your morals I'm worried about, kid. It’s your sense.” He took a step forward- carefully, so as to not spook the kidnapper, should his threat be genuine.

”Y’see, you're not just kidnapping any normal girl. There’s something inside her- something someone wants. And I have it on pretty good authority that if she dies, so does what she’s carrying. And something tells me you're not the type to waste all of this hard work like that, are you?”

He took another step forward. "And furthermore… if you kill her, then there’s nothing stopping me from tearing all of you apart, limb from limb. Hollow victory or not, at least I’d be ensuring the poor girl rested in peace. So… you want to reevaluate your position, friend? Or does this have to get ugly?”

He stomped forward another step, the ground cracking and melting under his foot.

”Let. Her. Go.”

”Ms Ambassador, please shoot Miss Desdemona in the knee cap, it seems our friend here is hard of hearing.” Lekh looked thoughtful for a moment. “Oh, wait, it slipped my mind that she prefers to use horrifying magic. Well, I am sure she will use her imagination.” Lekh tilted his head, showing he was smiling beneath his mask.

”Now it is time for you to use your ‘sense’. If we hand the girl over to you, we lose everything regardless. I happen to have taken a sample of her blood, so frankly if forced I will see her dead, cut my losses, and take the risk that you can overcome me and my associates rather than give her to you.” He shrugged, the flippant gesture somehow ominous with the loaded pistol in his hand, dripping water onto the puddle at his feet.

”See, I will let you in on a secret. I do not care what happens to Racheli after this, I suppose she will be transported to whoever our client is. What I can assure you is that whoever the client is, they pale in comparison to me and my associates. We will not be there, and so you will not be faced with a man holding a loaded gun to your friend’s head. Consider that very carefully. I would rather not have more blood on my hands for one day.” He tilted his head one more time. "It really is an awful nuisance to wash off.”

The hero and the villain faced off with one another, neither making a move, all the while time ticked away. At great cost, Silence had bought the necessary time for his magical associate to create her portal. Having to shoot and kill a man in cold blood was not an easy thing to do. Though no one said kidnapping someone would be easy, it really shouldn't have been this hard either. Still, the Polish criminal stood with his pistol in his hand, his aura saturating the puddle at his feet and water dripping from his clothes. Despite all that, it looked awfully like the bad guys were going to win this one, could it be a new turning point in the superhuman history of Lost Haven? For perhaps the first time, things were looking bleak.
Majestic as fuck
I think Lehk was planning on walking out after this, wasn't he Melon? Or you going to have him stick around now?

Yep, he'll stick around for as long as he has to (for example if he has to go through Odette's portal to escape) but as soon as he gets a free moment (presuming Rach is still kidnapped at that point) he'll bail. He's done his part.
-vote-

A: preferably, because I genuinely believe it would be a more interesting climax (not to mention giving the villains some early success, as a general look through history seems to show that the villains lose every time.)

C: as a backup, basically anything but B, which would be a bit of a kick in the teeth after all the planning and build up that went into this scene thus far.

So, I guess I vote A, though I'm also biased. Can't have Silence fail his first mission, he needs the money to pay for his sick dog's vet bills.

Without the element of surprise the Polish criminal didn’t have a hope in hell against this new threat. The strange robotic form of the man the Meta had claimed was a doctor approached his position with intent, his threats made his purpose evident. His demands were unacceptable, but god Lekh wished he could acquiesce and escape this nightmare of a situation. He mastered his fear and the mask fell back into place, he was a manipulator, a thief and a criminal, even a killer if necessary. Whatever strange friends this Racheli woman had, he could still use his intellect against them even now.

“Ah.” Lekh began, raising one hand towards the approaching robot as he held his weapon low. “If you take one more step, one of my associates will shoot your friend in the head. I believe you are intelligent enough to see that Ms Desdemona is at our mercy, you may in fact be capable of killing the four of us, but not before your friend dies. That will leave you with naught but a hollow revenge, at best.” Silence grimaced beneath his mask, even as he briefly stepped away from the puddle at his feet, still attempting to keep the Meta down with his aura alone. He backed over to the ambulance’s cab and looked at the robot.

”So you understand how serious this situation is…” His weapon discharged and glass shattered, blood splattering the inside of the van and splashing against the windscreen, vivid red stains running down the glass.

"Unlike yourself, we are not overly burdened by morals, do not test us.” Lekh just barely managed to keep his voice from revealing his emotion, the knowledge of the murder he just committed staining his soul. There was little for it though, Bobby always had to die, he was the only real witness. Lekh walked back over to the puddle with a heavy heart, wondering if his display would be enough to stop the Meta from approaching. He supposed that if it were not, he himself would likely die. Still, only two minutes left.

"You are obviously aware by now that one of my associates has powers outside the realms of science, if anything happens to me, they will kill Ms Desdemona. The only way your friend survives this encounter is if she leaves with us, essentially, so I would advise you to rethink your stance."

Cool, Kozz is on the road heading north for now.
He wandered. His wounds bled and smarted and eventually scarred, but the Forgemaster was unmoved. Kozz left the city with a trail of senseless but very much still breathing warriors behind him. There was only one thing on his mind, even if his meandering path suggested little direction to his travels, and that was to return to the only thing he knew. The Forge. His forge to be exact, buried within the mountains of his former people in the north. It would take him perhaps two days with his great lumbering strides to reach the land of the Barun, but until then he wished to see how the world had changed. There was nothing he could do to return things to the way they were, so while he wished the world could continue without him and his troublesome siblings, he willed away such fancies and tried to learn. Acclimatizing himself to a world he had not been a part of for centuries would not be an easy task, but like all the Children, he had naught but time.

Some of the Children would likely march against Eyra immediately and seek their revenge, tearing the land asunder in their quest for the witch’s blood. Kozz chose not to be among them, but with his monstrous visage gaining attention everywhere he went he would be unlikely to escape the ensuing battle. Humanity resented the return of the Children, as they should, and it was in their nature to fight change that threatened their lives. He could not fault them for such action, for he would do the same. In just a day of travel Kozz travelled miles upon miles, and saw much. Most of what he saw interested him and pleased him, the ingenuity of humans had not suffered too greatly from his absence. One thing however enflamed the Cyclops, the use of fire and steel in such unholy matrimony as to undo the works of a thousand years. Gunpowder. Rifles. Cannon. His greatest work had been bastardised, militarised, turned against the work that came before it and proven superior, but at what cost?
