Amane Kishimoto

VS.

Ruby Mamoru

Part 1

Both took their position opposite of one another in the rectangular fighting arena. The floor was rather hard and would surely not be a pretty thing to fall on. Ruby however, had little concern for that. The only injury she got out of the exercise was having her head busted open, but thanks to the wonderful medical staff at the school that was already healed. Once they were set in their positions, Ruby nodded to Amane, letting him know that the fighting would start now.

Amane’s circling around Ruby was certainly special, but it did not affect her too much. It only showed Ruby that Amane thought he was the one who was the predator stalking his prey, that he underestimated her. While he was circling her, she simply stood still, not even raising her fists or anything else.

That did not change the instant he dashed forward towards her, immediately going for a strong kick to her sides. More or less on the exact moment that Amane placed his foot down in front of her to go for the kick, Ruby jumped backwards, simply dodging Amane’s offense without any counterattack. From that position, the neko kept staring at Amane, not changing either her stance or facial expression. Just like before, she did not seem as if she was about to fight anyone since she was just staring there, glaring at Amane.

The boy suspected this much that she'd create more space between the two. It irked him that this girl was going to take the annoying path and play mind games with him. Amane simple brought his guard down and let out a sigh.

“See, I know what you are doing. Yet I can't help but get agitated by it.”

The boy crouched low to the ground before taking off full sprint at the girl, his stance similar to that of a sprinter. Midway on his course he changed his running stance as he leapt from side to side before delivering a few jabs to the girls stomach.

“Are you going to fight or continue running?” he said, a hint of anger could be sensed in his tone.

He was rapidly approaching Ruby and it was obvious that he was changing his stance and approach options a lot so that she would not be able to predict her. After all, he seemed to be betting on the fact that Ruby tried to read his fighting style and then dodge. The comment earlier made it quite clear and Ruby did not even reply to that.

Now he right in front of her and was ready to deliver a quick jab, the speed was quite impressive. The entire time Ruby stood still, which was not very long admittedly since Amane’s approach was insanely fast, but right when the first jab was about to connect with her belly, Ruby used her right hand to push his arm to the left so that his attack would miss. Then, she would grab the arm that he attacked her with; Her left arm grabbing his wrist while her right arm grabbed the upper part of Amane’s right arm. At the same time, her left leg kicked into his ankles, making them lose their connection to the floor. This small moment would be used by Ruby to do the unthinkable: Because of the speed Amane had while rushing towards the neko, she was able to use all that energy to counter his own weight and pull on his arm strongly. The result was a throw of Amane over her own head, right onto the hard floor that was initially behind her.

Once he was down on the floor She would stare right into his face and finally reply.

“You don’t know what I am doing. I don’t predict your actions, I react to them with my enhanced reflexes. I’m not taking you lightly, so give me all you’ve got Amane Kishimoto.” Conveniently, this was also the first time that she had used his name to adress him.

In an impressive display his attack was turned against him leaving the cold floor of the training arena. His back in excruciating pain as he laid on the floor yet there was a grin plastered on his face as he laid on the floor as he replayed the moment in his head.

She managed to grapple him and turned his own weight and power against him. It was brilliant.

It pissed him off.

The boy's hair obstructed his vision as he laid on the ground and listened to Ruby as she lectured him. “You're getting ahead of yourself” Amane pushed off the ground and into a sitting position. His back facing his opponent, “I am going to need to see a little more before I start taking you seriously. To me all I see is a general studies student.”

Amane got to his feet and smiled as he began to grow a bit excited, she knew how to get on his nerves. ”Lets see those reflexes” he said as he began circling her once again as well as walking off the pain in his back. He continued again with the same roundhouse kick predicting Ruby will simply dodge. If what he predicted was to come true he would transition into a feint, kicking off with his right left foot and going for a solid knee to the stomach. Just off of that little talk it seemed as though she plans on exploiting her agility in this fight in which he was prepared for.

All he had to do was capitalize on his attacks and not give her a chance to breathe once he lands a hit.

Even though Amane’s comment was meant to provoke Ruby, it did not have that effect at all. She was proud of the fact that her foe’s comments would rarely ever get to her, she knew that anger would only decrease her strength in a battle.

When Amane dashed forward for his next attack, Ruby attempted to dodge just like the last time. Her reflexes dictated her that a dodge backwards would be the most logical conclusion since; catching the kick would not be worth it since it would really hurt with his strength. However, much to Ruby’s surprise, the moment that she dashed off backwards, Amane dashed forward himself. The neko did not expect a feint! She still had time to dodge it, right?

No; She was airborne. Normally, Ruby would now use her quirk to either adjust her momentum or block the attack entirely, but that was not allowed in this fight. She was fucked.

The knee hit right into her stomach, the impact felt horrendous. Luckily for Ruby, it was enough to push her away from him, but that was not what she wanted. Her mind went blank for a very short moment when the knee connected, but that was enough so that she could not grab onto him. Initially, she had planned to do exactly that. “Shit”

Being thrown backwards a bit, Ruby eventually managed to land on her back and turn the momentum into a roll backwards which would end with her being on her feet. Slowly she stood up again, the pain still lingering from the impact of Amane’s knee. It was obvious that he was prepared for her attempts to dodge, which is why she had to change her gameplan. How about something unexpected? Suddenly, the neko dashed forward. She would raise both of her hands in anticipation; A direct attack might seem useless against someone like Amane, but she did have a plan in mind. With her fist raised, Ruby would go for a direct punch into his face; For his nose to be exact. Even though Ruby was not the strongest, if that blow were to go through it would have severe efffects. If he blocked it like she expected, she would go for an immediate kick into the knee of his right leg. Even if he were to dodge her simpleminded fist-attack, from her position she would be fast enough to do a similar follow up like what he did. Like that, she could reduce his speed and make sure that she would gain a huge advantage; By repeatedly attacking his legs. Of course, one kick to the knee would not be enough to slow him down significantly, but she would keep the attacks up.

Amane didn't stop there with his knee, he continued onward with his rain of pain as he cocked a fist back and prepared to deliver a clean strike to the jaw. As he began to let the haymaker go Ruby had retaliated quicker then he expected with a punch aimed at the center of his face. His body was already set in motion and it was too late to alter his course of action. All he could do now was brace himself to take the least amount of damage.

Amane turned his face to the side allowing for Ruby's fist to drag along his left cheek. It didn't hurt too bad but with the added momentum from his sheer mass, it was enough to cause his head to turn completely putting Amane in a bad spot as he was now susceptible to all of Ruby's attacks.

Instinctively he immediately pulled his hands over his face to block anymore headshots but his prediction was off as Ruby went for a flurry of kicks to the boy's leg causing his knee to buckle putting him into an unfortunate situation as he was know kneeling on one leg. Within the sudden change in position Amane managed to gather himself as he caught her kick with his right hand. The boy wrapped his fingers around her ankle and viciously eyed her down.

“Believe it or not, I've put in countless hours trying to perfect my craft. Do you think it's easy to bend gravity to your will? You'll never know what it's like to have your own quirk try and kill you.”

Amane tugged with all his might, sweeping Ruby clean off her feet. With an impressive display of how strong he was, he had thrown Ruby halfway across the arena.

“You and many others are wrong. It's not the quirk that makes the hero, its the hero that makes the quirk.”

He surely would hit himself later for saying that, he could believe he really spouted his grandfather's words in a battle? Perhaps he suffered more damage to his brain than he thought.

“Your hits are well directed but you lack the power to take out your opponents enough. You disappoint me, I thought you were different.” Amane began stretching his fingers out as he spoke not even looking Ruby in the face as he talked down on her.

“If that's all you've got, drop out of the hero course right now. Choose another occupation while your limbs can still function correctly.”

Ruby Mamoru

After a while, Amane would finally arrived, seemingly having finished the work that he was forced to do as a punishment. Ruby had anticipated it and now just waited for Amane to return from the changing room. While she knew this was just a spar, she wasn't taking it lightly. This was about making a statement, making a point to the guy with the biggest ego around. So when he returned, she followed him into the training room without a word.

He decided to let her decide on the type of battle they would fight, so Ruby replied almost instantly. Her voice was both filled with determination and void of any other meaningful emotion at the same time. While gazing into his eyes the catgirl began explaining the rules.
"I'd say we do it like a classic, official match." The girl pointed at the arena in the middle of the room.
"Simple hand-on-hand combat. I normally use a sword to fight, but this will include no weapons. You can win by either knocking your opponent out, rendering them unable to fight in any other way or throw them out of the ring. If any part of your body touches the outside, you're out and your opponent wins." Ruby paused for a second before pointing at Amane's bandaged hands.
"I've noticed before, but I assume your quirk does have effects on your body. Therefore, for both of our safety, using one's quirk will be forbidden for the fight. I lose the advantage of my sword, you lose the advantage of your quirk. Besides, it is easy to rely on such a powerful quirk like yours, I'd much rather see actual skill in combat." Ruby finished, actively being a bit agressive with her choice of words.
"If there are no more questions then we can begin."

Luna Synth

Finally having managed to left the more than chaotic scene, Luna found herself on the correct path towards her home again. The thought about both the poor little girl and the strange guy that jumped after her still lingered in the redhead's mind for a while since her walk home was more or less a rather lengthy one. However she finally came to the conclusion that they were not worth paying too much mind to. After all, occurrences like these, or rather, tragedies were a common thing when it came to the Abyss.

After a while the girl eventually reached her destination and entered her home. Just as expected, her parents were not home at the time. They had announced to Luna earlier that they would be gone for a day or two (or more), meeting up with a client who was interested in buying some of their salvaged artifacts. This was the perfect oppertunity for Luna to gain some experience diving down into the abyss on her own. She had planned this for quite some time: A dive without any assistance by her parents that went deeper than the second level. Luna didn't know what her parents would think about her attempting such a feat on her own, which is why she waited for both of them to leave for a few days so that she could return before they would! ..If she managed to return that quickly from her dive. Obviously, she was confident enough in her abilities to actually accomplish this goal.

Inside of her home, Luna only grabbed her backpack which she had already prepared earlier that was filled to the brim with her own gear. While it was true that Luna was confident in her skill, she knew how important good equipment was. For her, "good" equipment was not nearly enough, she needed "excellent" gear that would make her journey through the unknown easier. Everything inside of the backpack she had already prepared earlier that day... the girl was really convinced to do this. "I'll just reach the entrance to the first layer and then I can go back up." she began talking to herself, as she always did when she was alone. The redhead barely paid it any mind, it was a thing that she basically did passively. Giving herself a final look in the mirror, Luna said enthusiastically: "You got this!" before she headed for the front door of the house that they lived it. While the house itself was no mansion by any means, it was a beautiful house with a relatively flat roof, multiple extraordinarily large windows on each side and each floor combined with a neutral color on the outer walls. The insides were more spacious than they seemed from the outside. It was almost a shame that this house was left alone so frequently by the dwelling family that lived within.

It was when she touched the doorknob that Luna finally remembered one important thing that she had almost forgotten. It weren't her own thoughts that reminded her, it was the growling sound that erupted from her belly when she was about to leave.
"ugh..."
She was so into the thought of doing this self-made trial, anticipating it with much enthusiasm, that she had forgotten to eat beforehand. Surely it would become a huge disadvantage to dive down being this hungry, hence Luna turned around, placed her backpack near the door that functioned as both the entrance and exit to the house, then proceeded to head back inside and prepare herself some food.

Roughly 40 minutes later it was finally time; The excited girl left the house with her equipment for real this time. While her expression was still as warm as snow from the north pole, she couldn't be more happy to do this. After all, diving was more than just a way to make money for her, it was a passion which she would do until the day that she dies, she was fully convinced of that thought. Of course she had no intention to actually die during this dive, in her mind this was a piece of cake. Still though; That signature neutral, maybe cold expression on her face never quite left it while she was now making her way towards the entrance to the abyss, her blue whistle swinging left and right in front of her chest being the key to a world so full of wondrous, fantastical beings and entities, unknown and lost leftovers of civilizations long gone, beautiful and magnificent landscapes that would seem as if god had handcrafted them carefully by himself and of course mysterious and incredibly useful artifacts which were littered all over this both ominous and awe-inspiring place that was called "The Abyss".
Thinking about it that way, it was easy to see why so many people were almost magically drawn to a large hole in the ground. It almost got a smile out of Luna.

Ruby Mamoru

This time it was Ruby's turn to take a short break while she was watching Persia preparing her own workout and listened to what she had to say. It was quite unique and intersting, given the fact that Persia mentioned the possibility of having to... end someone eventually. Sitting down on a bench next to Persia, Ruby put down her waterbottle next to her and crossed one leg over the other. The possibility of having to do such a thing had crossed Ruby's mind before, but she never paid the thought much attention. After all, even if it did eventually happen, what was she to do about it? As a hero it would be her job to save as many lifes as she could, that includes the life of the villains. In a way, restraining villains and sending them to jail was better than straight up killing them, and Ruby was perfectly suited for that with her quirk. However, if it were to occur one day that she had to do such a thing, Ruby was sure that her conviction as a hero would be enough for her so that she would be able to do it. The thought is a scary one nonetheless...

"Yeah, it could happen. As long as it is justified."

Ruby added before responding to Persia's second statement. There were a few moments of silence between what she had to say as she thought about whether to actually answer the question or not. However, in the end she decided to answer it. "I guess you could say that. I've been training for this basically my whole life, more or less everyday."

While Persia continued her workout, Ruby's gaze shifted away outside to watch the beautiful surroundings and weather that painted quite the pretty scene on the school campus. After a few moments of silence had passed, she decided to continue her workout and would likely continue to do so until Amane arrived.

Both of them were doing all kinds of exercises together, since Ruby usually enjoyed having a great variety of different exercises in her routine. Since they were doing Ruby's training routine, the great variety could easily be spotted and it might have seemed all over the place, but the neko knew exactly what she was doing. When Persia asked the question about Ruby's behavior in Amane's situation, she was currently doing a handstand on one arm, an exercise to both increase her balance and endurance since it was the goal to keep this position up for a while.

After some short moments of thinking, Ruby finally replied. Of course, she did not lose her posture and she didn't even struggle or tremble in that position. "I think I would've restrained her. It is not my job to teach that girl a lesson so why make an example out of her? Besides, restraining her would protect her from herself too, since I am not the kind of person who enjoys hurting others. Then again, my quirk is incredibly good at restraining people so that might make me a bit biased." With that sentence, Ruby heavily implied that her quirk was not limited to her feline appearance. Up until now, her cat-like features might as well have been Ruby's quirk from Persia's perspective after all.
With grace Ruby descended from her position and drank a gulp of water from her bottle while looking at Persia. "What would you have done?"

Ruby's subtle provocations had exactly the kind of effect that she had hoped they would. While it was true that Ruby originally did not intend to get into a fight with Amane, a little bit of teasing never hurt anyone. Besides, this bundle of arrogance and pride seemed like someone that would be fun to tease since it was easy and the neko was right. To his last words however, Ruby had no reply. It was quite clear what he had meant and what Amane intended to do but saying things now wouldn't have helped the situation. Ruby was better off just leaving together with Persia. Therefore, Ruby turned her back to Amane and headed towards the exit; She had accepted the challenge.

While hearing his annoyed noises coming from inside somewhat clear thanks to her feline ears, Ruby had to surpress a chuckle herself but still managed to keep her demeanor neutral. Persia was the first to break the silence when the duo walked away from the cafeteria and towards the gym with some humblebragging about her own quirk. This gave no reply from Ruby, but rather a mental note that contained more details about Persia's quirk. After all, that sentence implied that she could not freely teleport anywhere that she wanted to which means that some sort of preperation would have to be done beforehand. It was just a pet-peeve Ruby had, remembering as many details about quirks as she could; For her it was part of the fun!

However that joke gave no reaction from Ruby, who was still walking in front of Persia. Normally Ruby would have at least giggled at such a joke, but now it was different. Finally, when Persia was able to catch up to her and ask whether she was ready, Ruby consciously decided not to answer since Persia was very much able to see Ruby's face now. She had an incredibly serious expression on her face, she was definitely ready to face Amane.

Soon they would reach the gym and Ruby immediately changed from her normal school clothes into her gym uniform herself so she could warm up. Before she did commence though, she turned to face Persia, when Ruby had already changed. "Wanna join me? I'm gonna warm up a bit now and then do my usual training routine." Thus she began to warm her body up by doing a plethora of different activities, mostly speed-related exercises that would increase her agility. After all, she was never really a heavy-hitter. Therefore, while waiting for Amane, Ruby would train in the gym and occasionally chat with Persia.

Much to Ruby's surprise, Amane's reply was considerably normal or casual, given who it was coming from. For now it simply made more sense to just let Persia and Amane converse, Ruby didn't have any reason to talk to Amane herself after all. She only wanted to accompany her friend.
When the guy turned to her and began talking her down however, the situation changed. While Amane's words barely phased Ruby, her outer demeanor did not change at all and stayed neutral, it was interesting to have words directed at herself and it also was interesting to see him become angry just by her presence.
"I am only here because she wanted to talk to you." Ruby replied without changing her expression or tone.

Thinking back to the exercise however, Ruby felt the need to correct Amane. "My team did not win the exercise. Yes we would have won, however your freakout caused the exercise to end preemptively which is why we were never officially awarded with a victory even though 3/4 out of my team were still standing after that final attack." Despite the topic, her tone continued to stay neutral and cold.
"Besides, these are strong words coming from someone whose hero career was on the brink of conclusion after you got scolded by your grandfather for almost killing a student during the exercise."
She finished her sentence by closing her eyes and shaking her head. "I didn't come here to pick a fight with you though. I don't hold any grudge towards you for what you've done."

Once the catgirl reopened her eyes, her gaze returned to meet Persia's. "We all have our reasons why we want to become heroes and I don't doubt that you have your own. You've received your punishment and I doubt that you'll do something similar in the future." She was intentionally looking at Persia even though she was talking to Amane since her follow-up statement was directed towards her. "If that is all you wanted to ask him, I wouldn't mind leaving now since I still have to do my daily training today."

Persia's sudden change in behavior and demeanor somewhat caught Ruby off guard, since the girl until now only had been rather goofy around the neko. Therefore seeing her that serious and almost overreacting to Ruby's casual statement was surprising and Ruby only stood still to listen. With her eyes staring at the girl who did not return her gaze, the catgirl did not even reply to that little monologue of her's. Rather than getting into some discussion about deeper topics like these, Ruby took the oppertunity to stay quiet and simply followed Persia inside while keeping her head down.
It was an interesting and frightening thought to think about, a world without the allmighty hero. Whether Amane was fit to be a "symbol of peace" or anything like that didn't matter, it would seem as though this world would need every hero that it can get soon enough.

Both entered the place and the catgirl was walking right besides Persia. She still wasn't too sure whether she had any real interest in conversing with Amane, but since Persia wanted to and Ruby was fine with coming along, she did not mind approaching him like that. It was good however, that it was Persia who initiated the conversation with the edgelord.
With crossed arms Ruby returned Amane's gaze as he stared at her for a short moment, giving her own cold and neutral expression to him.
"Kishi-kun" Ruby thought to herself, almost having to surpress laughter after hearing such a cute nickname for Amane. Her outer expression showed no change luckily but Ruby was happy to know that she wasn't the only one to receive the "nickname-treatment" from Persia.

When Amane asked for their intentions, Ruby didn't bother replying, since it was her friend who wanted to come here after all. Right now Ruby saw no reason to tease Amane anyways, he seemed humiliating enough, collecting the used gums from under the cafeteria tables. Therefore the neko kept up her outer expression but also did not take her eyes off Amane since this was the first time she actually saw him outside of the tapes or the battlefield and could take a moment to inspect him and burn his image into her mind. Her own ears were perked up and twitching slightly since she was paying attention carefully. Her tail on the other hand was just hanging down her legs and not moving at all so it was almost impossible to spot it from the front.

Having just walked through the portal, Ruby took a look around to check her surroundings. For a moment she was wondering whether it was actually okay to use such a quirk for transportation around the school. That thought reminded her that Ruby was actually not entirely sure to what extend they were allowed to use their quirk outside of classes or training-sessions on school grounds. A question she'd have to ask a teacher at some point.

But surely enough, Persia was correct: Amane was in the cafeteria doing this almost humiliating and annoying work. Before both of them started to approach him, Ruby faced Persia and asked a last question. "So, why is it that you want to talk to him? I've never had any interaction with him, but from the recording I could tell that he was not exactly the nicest guy."
That was still almost a euphemism. Since the neko did not hold a grudge against Amane she had no real interest in talking to him at the moment. However, it would be interesting to tease him after what he had done to her classmates.
