Personality
Laila is a cheery girl with a big heart and a strong work ethic. As far as she’s concerned, life’s all about doing right by your own. Anyone that’s just out for themselves should be ashamed, and anyone that’s leeching off their fellows is a crook. She believes everyone has a duty to pitch in for others when they’re in need, but if they’re taking when they don’t need, than that’s just not right. Naturally, she has a burning hatred for the Librarium, and wants nothing more than to see them gone for good. She’s a blunt and straightforward type, always keen to speak her mind and not possessing a lick of tact or delicacy. In fact, she didn’t know what those words meant until sometime after joining the Cloud Chasers. The way she sees it, the world is a simpler place than people give it credit for. You just need to see past the bullcrap and do what’s right.
“Honest work, honest treatment.”

Laila comes from a village called Sangin in one of Pandora’s rural regions. They were never the wealthiest bunch, and that was exacerbated by the system of exploitation carried out by the Decretius Librarium. Laila grew up helping out her family and those around her with the farmwork, and she grew used to hard physical toil from an early age. She also grew used to the sight of Librarium personnel coming to seize as much of their produce as they could. She quickly came to resent the Librarium just as most in the village did, and the word “Deacon” became synonymous with “bully”. Few enjoyed the Librarium’s oversight, but for the most part, everyone managed to eke out a living from what they did. Laila and the other villagers tended to just keep their noses down and keep working, hoping that things would change for the better eventually.
On Laila’s 13th birthday, things did change…for the worse. A sudden blight destroyed a large portion of the village’s crops for the year. It was a bad situation, though at first, Laila’s parents assured her everything would be okay; they could subsist on the small amount they had left and get back to normal next year. However, the local Deacon had other plans. He announced that the village was obligated to meet its production quota, and that he would be taking what they had left no matter what. The villagers protested swiftly, and in the midst of the action, Laila thought it would be the greatest idea ever to give the Deacon a swift kick in the nuts. She certainly succeeded, and even got away without a punishment, but the Deacon didn’t forget the little girl that humiliated him in front of everyone. Knowing she would be punished if she remained, Laila’s parents decided she had to be sent away. Fortunately, they had one solid method of getting her out of harm’s way; the village had a contact in the Cloud Chasers. They arranged for Laila to be taken in by them. Laila didn’t want to leave, but they assured her it was for the best.
It wasn’t long after being taken in by the Cloud Chasers that Laila learnt to use magic. Over the next 10 years, she became a talented fighter and mage, always eager to live up to the creed of the Cloud Chasers. While she’s more than dedicated to the group, her eyes are always cast beyond random acts of opportunistic altruism; she yearns for the day when the Librarium is just a bad memory for Pandora, and when she can return to Sangin and get right back to the farms she left behind.
