Pretty much that. It technically takes about 8 minutes for light to travel from the Sun to Earth so you can use that to gauge how fast it takes to travel between each planet by light-travel. Although, I'd think this method of travel is restricted to those who are extremely wealthy only so you won't have the JFA light-traveling right to Earth for an invasion, etc.

I think everyone's already in a battle currently, but a good way to get broken into the way the game works is to fight against some risen. It's also easier exp to earn over fighting another player too.
