With the group having forced their way to their next target, Mercury's lightning ceases. Just when she starts to think that maybe they were starting to make progress, her eyes fall on the strange man at the other end of the room.

"Oh... This can only be good, right?"

Sarcasm dripping from her words, she starts to let her body magic course, readying herself for whatever altercation may be about to rear its ugly head. She's confident in her abilities, but something tells her that this particular adversary is going to be a serious issue. Just looking at him makes her feel...off...
@Patches

With the magic flying, Mercury takes Gregor's cue and ducks into cover as well. She takes shelter behind a large potted plant, doing her best to stay curled up and out of the line of fire until their pursuers are within striking distance. The air bolts she can throw are strong, but not nearly as strong as her punches.

"Well, can't say I've been in this much trouble before..."

There were rarely times where she'd properly put her life on the line for anything, but given what she'd learned about the Children, this was a risk worth taking. Electricity begins to arc between her fingers as her enemies draw nearer.

>The instant the guard is down, her capacity to work through crowds is suddenly more handy than ever. It doesn't take long for Mercury to bob and weave her way through the chaos to at least get within earshot of Gregor as she makes for the gardens. Hopefully that guard learned his lesson and just stays down.

I got it! What good is it now that the whole thing's gone to shit?
@Patches

Welp, that's it, cover's blown. The goal now is surviving the getaway. Though, with Gregor's quick thinking putting the entire party on edge, that may be a little bit easier. Every muscle in Mercury's body is wound tight like an iron spring, ready to send her bolting towards the nearest exit as quickly as possible, but the drunken guard could prove to be an issue. Nothing a powerful surge of electricity couldn't solve~ Hopefully...

Magic surging through her storm runes, she quickly places her fists to the guard's abdomen, palms facing each other vertically, electricity arcing between her hands. She slams her eyes shut at Gregor's warning, simultaneously discharging enough electricity to paralyze the guard, hopefully for more than long enough to get away. Judging by those arcs between her fists...it may have been a touch too much. Not deadly, but a normal person wouldn't be doing much for a while.
@Patches

Shit shit shit...

>Internalized swearing doesn't really help to ease the situation. Before anything can escalate between Daud and the guard, she moves to place herself between them, magic coursing and ready to go should either need to be subdued.

Hey! There's no need for this! Daud, I appreciate you steppin' up for me, but I can handle this. Take it easy, okay?

>She then turns her attention directly to the guard, hoping she can ease the tension and get him to leave them alone. With mounting tensions between Gregor and Gustrag, she has to be ready to move at a moment's notice, she can't afford to be caught up in the drunkenly amorous guard's antics.

As for you, shoving a friend around isn't exactly a great way to gain favor with me. I'm telling you no, that's the end of it. Please, just walk away. This doesn't have to get any worse than it is.
C'mon, Gregor... Please be able to talk your way out of this.
@Patches

>Yeesh, that touch of alcohol on his breath is definitely noticeable. He may not be plastered, but there's no way he's sober, which means Mercury can figure out what this guy's going for with relative ease. She tucks the ticket she'd nabbed into her hand wraps at her palm with subtle motions of the fingers, addressing the tipsy guard at the same time.

Come with you, huh? Any particular reason? As far as I can tell, there's no reason for you to be detaining me.

>She puts on a playful smirk, trying to lead into a gentle let-down for the guard. It's a little difficult, though, now that she's spotted Gustrag himself heading for the rest of her team. This may be a problem...
@Patches

Good eyes~ Be right back.

@Ember Storm

>With her target in sight, she starts to work her way through the crowd, being careful not to keep her eyes on him for too long, as well as avoiding making a beeline straight to him. As she approaches, she spots the ticket peaking out of his pocket. For the moment being, she pauses, appearing to simply take in the sights as she works out how best to approach this. It's a pretty different situation than she's used to. Crowded, yes, but no one is focused on going anywhere... The best she can manage is her usual method, a classic slight-of-hand brush-by.

>She takes a moment, looking around to make sure no one is focused on her, before moving in, doing her best not to draw attention as she passes by, the mans back between her and the rest of the crowd as she slips the ticket from the man's pocket with a single, smooth, practically unnoticeable motion. Now comes the luck part. Pray that no one noticed as she makes her way back around through the crowd.

>Pick-pocketing and eavesdropping? Sounds like a job for the street kid.

As it just so happens, being sneaky is my specialty~

>Growing up on the streets of New Wickborough taught her to train her slight-of-hand skills to what some would call a rather sketchy extent. That's what happens when you have to steal to survive, though.

Let's see who's saying what.

>At this, she begins to channel her magic through her ears, boosting her hearing just enough to pick up an average voice level from across the room. That done, she attempts to focus on anyone heading for the upper floors. Hopefully she'll pick up something useful, perhaps even find a target for her sticky fingers~
@Patches
Well, I have no idea who he is, so I wouldn't know. Honestly, it's probably better that way.

>There's a lot about her family that she doesn't know right now, come to think of it. She has no idea where her mother is, or what she's been up to. She doesn't know any extended family, and as discussed, she has no clue who or where dad is. Gregor's question prompts a lot of rapid thoughts before his comment on Gustrag drags her back into the moment.

Yeah, I'll bet that's pretty common among these fat-cat rich types, gild your life to hide your faults.

>At that, she takes to surveying the scene, casually making her way through the crowd, perhaps snagging an hordourve or two as she passes by a table. Doing her best to appear the typical party-goer as she learns everything she can about that room and how to get into it.
