“I’ve probably thought about that too much. But I still have no idea.” She said eventually, her eyes still lost in the dark liquid of the tea in her hands. “I’m sure my mother wants me to join the… family business.” She glanced up at him, wondering if he got the reference. Grace was sure a lot of the parents of the kids here had parents who were superheroes. Maybe some had super villain parents… it was impossible to tell really. “But it just doesn’t seem like something I’d suit. It’s too flashy and public.” If she truly was powerful like he thought she was then maybe it’d be something she was good at. Maybe it was something she should do. Maybe it’d be a waste of her powers not to use them to help people. But deep down whenever she thought about herself as a hero it just never felt right. Maybe that was just her lack of self confidence? She really had no idea. “But I guess whenever I try to see myself as an adult with a life of my own… I just see me with kids, being a house wife. Very ambitious of me I know, and many would probably see it as a very stereotypical aspiration but it’s just the only one that feels right.”
Grace smiled slightly at the boy’s words and gave him a look. Exactly what kind of look she gave him she wasn’t sure, but she supposed it didn’t matter either way because he couldn’t see her face. “Maybe I do…” The girl pondered aloud as she rubbed her finger on the cup in her hands, bringing it to her lips and sipping gently. He had her really thinking now. What if she was powerful? What would that even mean for her? She still wasn’t sure what she wanted to do with her life. Being a super hero just seemed… too out of character for her. It didn’t feel right. Did the magnitude of her power open up new opportunities for her? Turning back as Kyle spoke she smiled again, nodding slightly. “I suppose so…” She said, her voice clearly indicating that her thoughts were now on other things. “Do you know what you want to do with your life yet?” She asked eventually, turning back to look at him, thinking it was rude to just sit there quietly and not really add to the conversation. That and she wondered if maybe his answer may help her find some kind of direction in some way.
As he approached the wall Cade picked up the scent of human again. It took him a little while to determine whether it was a fresh scent or just some lingering from all the human activity recently. As the wall loomed closer he approached carefully as his sensitive ears picked up the sounds of a figure struggling in the snow. The beast paused for a moment, glancing over his shoulder at Luka. The boy felt weak, his breathing was too laboured. Cade didn’t want a face to face fight. However he had a job to do and figured he could scare the intruder off. Approaching out of the darkness his growl rumbled deeply and hissed, the air fogging around his mouth from the heat. However he stopped almost instantly as he recognised the scent. It had put him off for a moment, she had been covered in the blood of the boy, but her scent was very present with Luka, so he had recognised it once he had gotten past that. Silently the creature approached her, his body language calm and passive, there was no sign of the aggression that had been present moments ago. Walking up to the girl he stopped only a few feet from her and made a soft noise, almost like a whimper as he looked to Luka on his back.
Grace looked at him in surprise. She had never really thought about it that, always assuming she had been afraid of other people. But maybe he was right, though he hadn't said it in so many words; maybe she was afraid of herself and her powers. Maybe that was why she shied away from so many people. However it was the last sentence that made her look up in surprise, her brow furrowed in confusion. However after a few moments she simply shook her head and tried to laugh it off. “My level of power? No. You must be mistaken.” Her power was just like everyone else, only that it was water based rather than the other kids. She wasn’t any more powerful than the next person. That made no sense. She was sure everyone got angry and lost control and had things happen they were never able to recreate, either by choice or simply because they were unable to. “I’m no more special than anyone else.” She assured him, looking back down at her cup of tea and frowning again. Kyla had lived his entire life on his own anyway; he’d never had other people to compare to just like she had. How could he possibly know how powerful a person was or wasn’t? Especially when he’d seen so little of her powers being used?
The passed and inside was eerily silent. As the sun began to dip down below the surface, casting everything in a harsh orange light and elongating all the shadows. The doctor eventually emerged from her house, but seemed surprised to see Jayna there. “Have you been here all day?!” She said in shock. “Sweetie… he’s resting now, he’s been unconscious since we brought him in, but he’s stable. He needs to be left alone to rest and so do you. It’s going to be some time before he’s strong enough to even wake up or speak, let alone to see people.” Her eyes softened slightly and she gave the girl a gentle smile. “I know you must be worried… or perhaps just curious as to what happened. But you’re not going to find out today.” And with that she retreated back inside, closing the door. ** The sun was setting and the angle of the light cast right into the den. Cade was roused by it however instantly felt that something was off. Beside him Luka’s breathing was laboured and the creature looked at him with some concern. Placing his head to the boy’s cheek he could feel how hot he was and he wouldn’t rouse even when he nudged or prompted him. His wound looked red and very wrong. Now deeply concerned the daemon came to one simple conclusion. This was a wound made by the humans. They must know how to fix it. Scooping the boy up onto his back Cade moved out into the snow as the light faded as he began making his way north. To the Wall.
She had gone and found a quiet place in the library, opened her book and sat there quietly letting her tears flow. Honestly even Kaya wasn’t sure what she was crying about. Was she crying because of the fact Bryant had said something bad about her father and mother? Was it because she thought her father wasn’t as great a guy as she liked to believe? Was it just because she missed him despite everything? Honestly the only common factor amongst all those thoughts was her father So she simply decided she was upset because of her father, which is something that shouldn’t happen. When she heard Bryant’s voice she smiled, despite herself and stood, giving him a sad smile as she wiped away the tears. “It’s alright, I’m fine, really.” She assured him as she walked up to him and hugging him quietly. It wasn’t something she did often, but he always made her feel better this way, even if his empathy could use some work. “It wasn’t you anyway really.” She assured him, resting into the hug and lingering perhaps a tad too long before she reluctantly pulled away, giving him another soft smile.
Sam was carried to the doctor’s house, where he was quickly hurried inside. At this point the world was starting to grow dark, the adrenaline and natural pain killers his body had were all used up now and unconsciousness was quickly approaching to claim him and at this point he was too tired to fight it. However when Jayna tried to follow the doctor quickly turned to stop her. “I’m sorry… we’re probably going to have to operate on him, we can’t have any unnecessary people in there.” Her eyes softened and she placed a hand gently on Jayna’s shoulder. “Go home sweetie, get some rest. You look exhausted. I’ll make sure someone comes to get you when you can come see him.” When exactly that time would be she couldn’t say for certain. That wound looked vicious, as if a giant wolf or something had attacked him. He would be out for a long time whilst his body recovered. She was fairly certain he’d live, but until she got a proper look there would be no telling the fate of his arm. He was lucky it was still attached from the looks of it. All in all she needed to get to work and the woman turned and headed inside, the door closing behind her.
Sam smiled slightly, despite everything at her question as she helped him through the wall. “I was worried.” He said simply at first. The village was in sight and the pair were slowly making their way back to it, but Sam could feel himself growing weaker, blood still dripped from his wounds despite Jayna’s best attempts to patch them up. He needed a doctor. And probably a miracle. “I went to your house to check up on you, after your family disappearing… but you weren’t there. I knew what must have gone through your head, where you must have gone so I guess I had the same mentality as you did. I needed to see if you were still alive.” He laughed slightly. “And I end up coming back in worse shape than you did.” They were closer to the village now, and people were spotting them, calling out in alarm and rushing to help them. Two older males took Sam from Jayna and began carrying him towards the local doctors. “Jayna!” He called back to her. “If you see that boy again… thank him for me will you?” It probably sounded like a really stupid thing to ask, but in the end he had told that creature not to kill him. It was because of him that he was alive now and, though he couldn’t prove it either way, he was certain it was because of that other boy that Jayna was still alive too.
Sam seemed dazed, as one would naturally expect from such an experience. He was still staring at where the creature had disappeared into the forest, unable to believe what he had seen. He heard a voice talking to him, but only just managed to catch the last part of the words. He was still in shock, a condition which was rapidly growing worse. He’d stopped screaming now and sat there entranced, his eye fixed to where the creature had run off. When Jayna began working on his shoulder he cried out again, having not been paying attention it caught him off guard. “Are… are you alright?” He asked eventually, his mind was sluggish at the moment, so the words came out slowly. “We should go.” He didn’t realise he was being agreeable, but he was. “This way.” He stood up slowly, clutching at his shoulder, trying to support it so as to ease some of the pain. He may be very confused at this point, but he easily taken note of where the sun was on his way there. It didn’t take him long to find the wall again and he directed Jayna in the right direction. From there they only had to follow it, for what felt like a very long time for Sam, before they came across a hole. ** Cade had made to back to the den and Luka slid off his back, clutching at his shoulder. He was still not entirely sure what had happened back there, but above it all he was glad he hadn't had to kill the girl. She’d chosen life; he was interested to see what she’d do with it now. That other boy had been a factor he hadn't anticipated. Breaking off the pointy end of the arrow he gripped it, taking a few deep breaths before pulling it out without much noise. Cade lingered, making small anxious noises. “I’m alright.” The boy said, pushing the creatures head aside. “I just need some rest.” Luke said as he gently lowered himself into the warm, soft, fur lined den and settled in as Cade followed, curling up protectively beside him as the pair fell asleep despite the sun still being high in the sky.
I'd say he knows her fairly well, has a bit of a crush on her. How she views him is up to you, he may just be that guy she's seen around town, or perhaps has talked to every now and then but doesn't have feelings for. Probably surprised by him showing up but as concerned as you'd be if someone were to get attacked like that. I don't know how long he'll be around, but I don't have any plans to kill him off for a little while now. Had she said 'go ahead and kill me' or something along those lines to Luka when asked if she wanted to die he would have been killed just now. So I didn't give him too much thought in case he get killed off. I'll probably work on his character over the next few days.
