Appearance description and Traits
Description: Marissa is a Hyur Midlander who is quite short ( standing at 4’11”) and petite for her age. She has shoulder-length dark red hair which she sometimes ties up into a small ponytail when she desires it. Her eyes are a beautiful shade of hazel and she often receives positive compliments about them. She is not fond of her freckles that are located across her nose since they appear to look like specs of dirt in her personal opinion. Marissa’s adventuring attire consists of a red cashmere poncho, black shorts, and dark brown leather healed ankle boots that adds four inches up to her height.

Background
Abandoned by her father before she was born and her mother dying due to complications after her birth, Marissa was raised at the Church of Saint Adama Landama with other orphans who suffered tragedy in their lives just as she has. Being a shy and reserved child, she was afraid to communicate with the other children and caretakers in fear of them abandoning her later on in life just like her father had done. However one of the orphans Ava Lhilena, a talkative and kind Miqo'te girl, was determined to help Marissa out of her shell.
And that’s what the young Miqo'te did...
Marissa’s personality changed drastically just by having Ava always right by her side to help her daily. In just a few months she was able to play and help take care of the other orphans without feeling afraid. She felt happier, stronger, and brave. The people that she was afraid of interacting with the most ended up feeling like a giant family to her whom she loved dearly with all her heart and looked forward to spending her life with.
At the age of sixteen, Marissa began acting more rebellious and determined to learn how to fight in hopes of getting a job as a mercenary to help earn Gil for the church and orphans. Of course, when she first shared her idea with the members of the church her suggestion had been immediately disapproved in worry that she would get injured or get herself killed. Showing stubbornness, she didn’t listen to their advice and went down to Camp Drybone to purchase her first pair of weapons to practice fighting on the local hostile wildlife.
She failed...she failed multiple times causing her to come home with deep cuts and bruises mostly every single day leaving Ava to mend her wounds. One day a guard assigned to patrol Camp Drybone noticed her hard effort in attempting to learn how to fight that he volunteered to become her mentor which she happily agreed too. He went by the name Godric Forrest and he was talented at what he did. Protecting Eastern Thanalan from any enemies or disasters that may decide to come their way. However, despite being an inspiring and strong mentor to Marissa, he could never be able to protect Thanalan from The Seventh Umbral Calamity which would come just two years later.
When the Seventh Umbral Calamity arrived Marissa had lost many of the people that she loved during the battle which included some of her fellow orphans who grew up with her...Godric who taught her how to be strong and fight...and Ava who was always by her side cheering her on. Living through an experience like this others would have thought she would give up and return to her old ways on how she was as a child but she didn’t. No matter how much agony or sorrow she felt she wanted to continue growing stronger for those who she had lost and for those who she had yet to save.
She devolved the power of the Echo soon after her devastating loss.
After turning twenty-three Marissa officially left Eastern Thanalan to pursue her dream as a traveling mercenary. The jobs she received could be challenging at times but Gil was worth it since she could give it away to the church and buy equipment or food that she needed. She felt content in her life but she couldn’t understand the purpose of why she had the power of the Echo in the first place. Having headaches...hearing a woman’s voice..and reliving memories of the past days had made her exhausted at times to the point where she thought that she was going mad.
Traveling and staying in Vesper Bay to find more jobs, Marissa befriended Tataru Taru, a cheerful Lalafell who reminded her of Ava. She knew that she had a job as a receptionist but she had no clue that she worked for The Scions of the Seventh Dawn until later on. While escorting her Lalafell friend to Ul’dah they encountered a powerful Giant Tortoise that couldn’t be defeated easily. Marissa’s attacks didn’t do any damage to the savage beast and it had the upper hand. When she thought that all hope was lost she heard the woman’s voice again telling her that she could find the power within the light. Following the woman’s orders, Marissa felt power surge through her and she managed to defeat the enemy.
Seeing that her new friend might have the power of the Echo just like Minfilia, Tataru immediately brought Marissa down to the Scions headquarters to meet her. Marissa becomes a member of the Scions that day promising to help them defeat Primals and other threats to Eorzea.

* Marissa never learned how to swim and she nearly drowned as a child in the local river because of it. Since then she’s been terrified going in deep water.

* When she was in her early teens she often stole from the rich and gave it to the church. She thought that those selfish nobles didn’t need all that Gil for themselves.
