Now I can see a fairly comedic scene in my head because of the tree comment.

Joe: Oh that's a bunch of bullshit.

Tree: *Begins looming over Joe but returns to normal when Joe turns around to address the tree*

Joe: Right tree? Right. *Turns back around*

Tree: *Begins looming over Joe once again*

XD
I had turned around after hearing the hissing sound only to be met by a strange skeletal creature about to attack me. The next thing I knew was that a burst of light disintegrated the creature. I didn't even hear what the man had said... at this point... I was questioning what was reality and what was an illusion. I barely registered the arrival of another person... None of this could have been real. A lake of blood full of dead bodies... a man that shot light beams... skeletal creatures... and...

My gaze fell back to the girl covered in blood. My eyes wide with terror. That man hadn't acknowledged her existence. He hadn't seen her. Was it... that person...? From the lake...? Was she a ghost...? There to drag me back to the lake and have me join them? My heart began hammering out of control. I backed away, only to trip and fall flat on my ass. I looked around quickly and found my discarded knife not too far away, I crawled towards it quickly, snatched it up, and began running as fast as I possibly could. Away from this strange man, and that woman, that... ghost.

"None of this makes sense, none of this makes sense, none of this makes sense...! Wake up, wake up, wake up! It's a dream, it's a dream, it's a dream!" Those thoughts kept running through my head as I ran. I didn't run for too long... maybe a little less than a quarter of a mile. My breathing was ragged, my side was stinging horribly, I felt like I couldn't get enough oxygen into my lungs. I eventually hid behind a tree, sinking down to my knees, my back against the tree. I covered my mouth and forced myself to breathe through my nose, afraid that my ragged breathing would be loud enough for someone to hear me.
This was the most pathetic excuse of a trick that I had ever heard, or this guy was just plain insane... "Magic...? Do you think that I'm that stupid, or maybe you're just that crazy!? Magic doesn't exist." That weird glow around his hands... lights, maybe... and that warm feeling... stimulating my nerves, or perhaps some sort of medication on his gloves that can be absorbed through the skin. I kept swinging my weight around, pulling away, trying anything that I could to get out of his grip. That's when I saw a girl covered in blood.

"Oh, and look, there's your partner no doubt. So, is this how it's going to go? You hold me down while she guts me?" I tried everything that I could, kicking the man, stomping on his foot, to no avail, the worst that I was doing was getting a little bit of bloody sand smeared on his armor. I tried to slam into him, seeing if I could dislodge him that way... why did I stop to attack him...? Why didn't I just change direction...!? Stupid. Moron. Useless...!
"Let me go dammit!" This guy... was pretty strong. Stronger than I was, which... honestly wasn't that much of a surprise. I wasn't ever good with anything to do with physical exertion... Hell, 40 or 50 pounds was more than often more than I could lift on my own. "Don't act so innocent. You're going to kill me just like the rest of those people in the lake!" I flung my weight from side to side, trying to make the man let go of me. I was like a trapped animal... willing to do anything that I could to escape. Even if it meant tearing my own arm off in the process, I was going to try and escape.

"S-Sicko! I bet your the one that does the eye gouging, aren't you!?" My mind was racing with the images of what this man was probably going to do to me, how he'd probably make me suffer. How I would be joining the rest of those at the bottom of the lake... their hands grabbing me and dragging me down with them...! I need to get away, I need to get away...!
Joe's done lost his mind. XD

This is what I'm imagining is playing during the process. youtube.com/watch?v=jEpZq8mT9Ts
I could hear it... someone was following me. They were kind of far. I had attracted their attention. Surely it was one someone that had dragged me here. They intended to kill me. They intended to play around with me before they killed me. Ah... but they won't kill me that easily. I'll make sure to take a bunch of them with me. Yeah... I'll kill them, all of them... they won't hesitate to kill me, after all. It's for the sake of self defense...!

I reached into my pocket and pulled out the pocket knife, flicking the blade out... when I came across one of them... I'd slice them to ribbons...! Even if I'm not that strong... I just have to hit one of the main arteries and that'd be the end for them.

I saw a man in silver armor standing in my way. He was one of them. He was probably delusional... wearing armor...? Really? It's probably not real. Maybe just cardboard or sheet metal... I should be able to slice through it... or get at his throat. Just kill anything that gets in my way, that's all I have to do, and I can survive this nightmare. The bastard... mocking me, smiling at me, waving, pretending not to be a threat. I won't fall for it, I won't...!

I charged straight for him, and as soon as I got into range, I swung the pocket knife at him wildly. It didn't matter if I didn't kill him in the first hit. I just needed to keep lashing out at him. If I cut him, if I see blood, then I'm doing my job properly. I refuse to die. I refuse I refuse I refuse I refuse IREFSUEIREFUSEIREFUSE! DIEDIEDIEDIEDIE! JUST DIE!

"...I'm... at the ocean...? How... How long was I unconscious...!?" I lived in Nebraska. To get to either sea, it would have taken a minimum of 20 hours if they were to drive me to the ocean, and I doubt that they would have been able to sneak me past airport security or get me to seem conscious enough to go through the process of going through the security check without waking me up.

Either way, the path looked pretty treacherous to navigate... I sighed quietly and turned around. My blood ran a bit cold when I saw the pentagram drawn around the altar. "What the...?" A satanic ritual...? Really? This... isn't good. I took a deep breath and noticed the book. Maybe it might have some clue as to what they were trying to accomplish, or maybe they might have left something in there to indicate where I was or who they were or... some kind of a clue that could help me. I walked over to the abandoned book and opened it, beginning to flip through the pages by the dim candlelight.
Hehe... I'm so mean to my characters sometimes. :3
I woke up on something hard and rough... did I fall off my bed while I was sleeping...? I haven't done that since I was just a kid... I could hear something... waves...? Yeah... gentle lapping waves, like you'd hear at a lake... but... I didn't have my TV on. I slowly sat up and rubbed the bleariness from my eyes and gazed around me. "W-What...?" This... most definitely was not my bedroom. I appeared to be lying on a small hill.

The last thing I remembered was getting home very late from my part time job... I was exhausted, I didn't even take my shoes off. I just made sure that everything was locked, tossed my phone somewhere, and passed out on my bed. I was still wearing the clothes that I had been wearing last night. I checked my pockets and the only thing in them was my wallet, just a simple brown leather wallet. Nothing appeared to be missing, my cash and cards were still inside. So whoever did this... just dropped me off in the middle of nowhere, and didn't steal from me... Strange. At least I wasn't tied up in someone's basement. Not surprisingly my phone wasn't with my possessions, however I still had my pocket knife, so that's a plus. If someone tries to attack me here, I'll be able to at least try and fight them off.

I got up off of the hill and brushed the grass off of my clothing and looked around. I noticed a lake shore not too far from me. The lake looked black, it was actually pretty dark out, the moon was completely covered by clouds, so not a lot of natural light to help me see. I decided that maybe if there was a lake, there were some tourist attractions nearby, somewhere for people to park, buy some concessions, or maybe rent a boat to take out onto the lake. Maybe there'd be a working phone there. I'd just have to follow the shore and I'd end up there, then I could make my way home. No big deal... hopefully my apartment is still in one piece.

I walked to the sandy shore and cast my gaze out towards the water. I used to love coming to the lake when I was younger. We'd always rent a boat and take it out on the water. I'd sometimes pilot the boat, it was pretty fun. Though... something seemed... off. The lake, it smelled terrible. Like something was rotting... was... this lake really polluted or something...? Or is there something rotting around here...? I could distinctly smell the scent of rust as well. I'd just have to deal with it... if it was no longer a tourist attraction, I could always just follow the road to the nearest town if there wasn't one settled near the shore.

I walked for a while, but the smell just wouldn't go away... the sand was pretty sticky too, now that I was really thinking about it. It was sticking and clumping to the bottom of my shoes. What the hell is up with this lake...? The water seemed... sluggish. Like it was far thicker than it should be, and the color, it was far too dark and opaque... it seemed like it was staining the sand. The moon... it was starting to come out from behind the cover of clouds.

That's... when I saw it. The real color of the lake... red. Crimson red. My breath caught in my throat and I backed away from the lake. "W-What...? N-No... T-This is... this is impossible..." I could feel the bile rising from my stomach and into my throat. The water... it was... it was blood. Not blood in the water itself... but... the whole lake was filled with blood. I was hoping that it wasn't human. That... one small detail... no matter how impossible and twisted of a situation this was... if it was animal blood... then it would have brought some cold comfort to me.

However, I wasn't that lucky. A pale body floated to the surface of the lake. Just it's chest at first... but then its head surfaced. An eyeless gaze seemed to bore into the very depths of my soul. It's skin was sunken, its mouth was open, blood dribbling out of it... and... its eyes had been clearly gouged out. The tears around its eyes spoke to that one cruel and twisted fact. Someone had killed this person, gouged out their eyes, and threw them into this lake of human blood, undoubtedly filled with more dead bodies.

I wish that I could say that I had run away at that point. But... I just stared. Stared into that eyeless gaze. At what may very well be my future. I was overcome with nausea, I fell to my knees and began vomiting. I could no longer stand the sight, my body and brain began to function once more, and I threw up the contents of my stomach. Even after I could no longer vomit... I heaved, my body seeming to want to rid itself of my stomach altogether. I eventually managed to gain control and stand up, taking one more look at the body... I let out a bloodcurdling scream and ran away from the horrific sight.

I kept running and running, my mind going into overdrive of the possible ways they were going to kill me. I didn't know who "they" were exactly... but "they" had filled the lake with blood, "they" had thrown many corpses into the lake, "they" were going to kill me and I was going to join the rest of the corpses resting at the bottom. I just needed to keep running, running as fast and as far as I could... even if my lungs burst, even if my legs break... I needed to get as far away as possible.
I jerked awake from the strange dream. I sat up quickly, my vision blurry, and my body heavy. What was up with that strange dream...? I blinked a few times... was... I sleeping on the ground? It was the only real explanation for the hardness beneath me instead of my usual soft bed... did I roll off...? I rubbed the bleariness from my eyes and my mind slowly began to catch up with the reality around me. "T-This... this isn't my room...!" My heart began pounding wildly.

Where was I? The last thing I remembered had just finished getting ready for bed. I had double checked the doors and windows, ensuring that they had been locked. Then, I just laid in my bed and drifted off to sleep, nothing eventful had happened, right? No... nothing happened... then how...? Was... I drugged? How did they manage that then...? I felt perfectly normal up until that point... did... they manage to knock me out just as I was stirring...? I'll have to figure that out later... I need to figure out where I am and how I can get home.

I swung my legs over the slab and finally took a good look at the area. The place that I was sleeping... it was a stone slab, surrounded by candles. It appeared that I was on an altar. "God... were they going to sacrifice me...?" It appeared that the altar was in a cave of some sort. I worried momentarily about the rough floors, no doubt covered with sharp pebbles and rocks that would cut my feet, but that's when I noticed that I was dressed differently than how I went to bed... I was no longer only clad in a plain white t-shirt and gray sweatpants, rather I was in my usual attire. My black pants, black and white running shoes, black t-shirt, and white short sleeve button down shirt.

"They dressed me? Why?!" I felt momentarily violated and a little gross that some strangers had actually stripped me down and dressed me while I was sleeping... however, the pressing need to get out of here before whoever took me here returned and decided to chop me to bits for whatever sick twisted ritual they had in mind. I noticed that they had even left things in my pockets... why? Why go through all of this? Kidnap me, dress me, drag me to some cave, put me on an altar, but leave me completely unrestrained, with some of my usual items on top of it all?

I dug through my pockets and produced my cell phone, a simple black flip phone with a sword charm dangling off of it, a bit of an older model, but it worked perfectly fine for me. Unfortunately, I couldn't get a signal, it wasn't that surprising, just frustrating, I was in a cave after all, I could be several feet beneath ground, the signal was obviously blocked. My wallet, just a simple brown leather one, all of my cash and cards are still inside, so robbery wasn't a motivation... but of course at this point I couldn't for well say what possible motivation for all of this would be. My pocket flashlight, a simple black flashlight in the case of emergencies or dark areas, I made sure to carry one wherever I went. Finally, a blue pocket knife, I always carried it with me in case I ever needed to protect myself... Definitely something that you wouldn't want to let your captive keep on their person, especially if you leave him unrestrained.

I put everything back into my pocket and got off of the slab. I was careful not to step on the candles beneath me. I could see the exit not too far away. No wonder that the rain and thunder was so clear... This wasn't going to be pretty, but what other choice did I have? I either go out and risk getting sick, or lost, or killed, or I stay here and wait for my kidnappers to come back and complete their little ritual. I stopped just at the mouth of the cave and gazed out to the distance, trying to see if maybe I could make something out through the storm, some signs of civilization, somewhere where I could get some assistance...
