Name: Jon Templeton
Nicknames: J/JT/Temp
Age: 33
Place of Birth: Richmond, Va.
Occupation: Movie Producer
Personality/History: Jon was born and raised in Richmond, Virginia. He never knew quite where he fit in when he was in High-School. Jon wasnât athletic enough for sports like his older brother Bill, and he wasnât a braniac like his older sister Catherine the Valedictorian. Jon though had an out-going personality and liked to make people laugh and have a good time. He tried various things until he realized that he needed a fine-arts credit to graduate High-School. Jon heard Theater Arts was usually an âeasy Aâ so he decided to give that a try. It was like watching a bird take flight Jon had many gifts and talents of being in the Theater.
Jon eventually enrolled in the University of Virginia, but realized that there was only so much in terms of having a career being on the East Coast. He didnât want to go to New York, because Jon just didnât feel a connection to it so he decided to move to California. He went with the intention of transferring to USC and working part time to help pay for school, but paying for school and having an apartment was a lot more expensive than Jon thought it would be. Jon started working full time at local coffee shop hoping to save a enough money to go back to school. Being in California made Jon feel alone and isolated. He called his parents to see if they could help pay for him move home, but Jonâs parents lost everything in a panzi so he couldnât even get him home.
Through all this Jon kept believing that one day it would all turn around despite the fact he was barely making any money and just enough to survive on. Finally he managed to get a job as a production assistant on a couple of movies. It wasnât much but at least Jon was working in films. Then one day changed everything. He was working on a Quentin Tarantino film as Johnny Knoxvilleâs assistant and there was a problem in dealing with a shot. During the downtime Jon and Johnny were talking and Jon made a suggestion. Later one Johnny told Quentin the idea and it was incorporated into the film. Jon thought nothing of it, and just blew it off as one of a million ideas that Quentin got during the day.
Two weeks later Jon got a phone call from Quentin. He told Jon about how Johnny pitched him his idea about the scene, and Quentin loved it. It saved them two weeks of reshoots and about five million on the budget. He wanted to meet with Jon to talk about films and movie making. Quentin was really taken with Jon and loved how his mind worked. Quentin asked Jon about working on his next film a reboot of the âHalloweenâ franchise. Jon accepted Quentinâs offer and thought he would be do P-A work again, but Quentin told him he was going to be an associate producer and if the film was a hit heâd be a full producer on the sequel. The film was a smash and so was the sequel and Jon was now a full-blown producer.
Though he was starting to find his stride Jon kept his head on straight and never forgot what it was like to be struggling in L-A. Jon finally decided to produce a movie on his own. When he announced he was doing a movie about âAquamanâ Jon nearly got laughed out of the industry, but Jon believed in this project and Quentin helped where he could but this was all on him. He and the crew worked tirelessly and it was released in the summer of 2011. Critics bashed it as hokey and just another comic book movie, but the movie going audience loved it making it the 4th highest grossing movie of the summer. Jon then began work on another film based upon the murder of Jimmy Hoffa, and the film died at the box-office. However critics loved it, so did those in the movie industry and the film earned 8 Oscar nominations including one for Best Picture. It won the Best Picture of that year and now Jon was firmly entrenched in his career as a movie producer. All the time though he has always been respectful of those who work with him. Rarely does he lash out, and is always willing to talk to the lesser known members of the crew. If something doesnât work on the set he wonât tell someone itâs a bad idea, but rather say, âLetâs not do that again.â
Jon eventually got his parents out from under their crushing debt, and went back to schoolâŚas a lecturer. Jon has since produced 3 more movies, and is now working on a project he is passionate about. A series of short stories that have gained a great deal of popularity on line, and though itâs been about 18 months it looks like things might be coming together.
Anything youâd like to add: Jon loves the music of Bruce Springsteen and loves working out. He is a practicing Roman Catholic, but doesnât force his beliefs on others.
