Helena’s hand was buried elbow-deep into the wall panel, still trying to open the door. Crew members finally heard the ruckus she was causing and rushed to open the door. It started creaking which snapped Helena out of her concentrated work on the door panel. She aimed her gun at the door expecting enemies to rush in at any moment. As more of the crew members joined in the effort to open the door Helena began making out some of the voices behind the door. Enough to realize it was her side that won the scuffle beforehand.
The creaking suddenly stopped and Helena heard gunfire. After a few shots the door slid open and the commander stood before her. The research lab was barely lit. Only the emergency lights and the hallway lights illuminated it.
“Figured as much. Glad we won.” She replied to the commander. “It seems we had the same idea about opening the door.” She glanced at the now hole-riddled door and joked, while still keeping a straight face.
“I was in the middle of testing a new railgun upgrade, which we could apply to our ship, when got fired upon. Drawing such ridiculous amounts of power from the reactor while under fire isn't such great idea. The power fluctuations overloaded my prototype. Essentially fried my entire lab. Wish I had some forewarning of the impending attack.” She explained rather annoyed that all of this could have been avoided, all the while she began walking next Nathan going wherever he was going.
“Any idea where Jack might be? I need new wiring for the lab and hopefully he’ll let me borrow a few engineers too. By the way, what the hell attacked us?”
