At first the battle went well but when Lord Gralastyx unless an army of possessed chaos marines, the tide turned against them. Mathilda saw her sisters and the Salamanders being slaughtered. Seeing a Salamanders Sergeants attempting to rally the force, she came to his aid and assisted him. Several Sisters of Battle and Space marines joined them. Here Mathilda saw that the Space Marines and Sisters of Battle both fought with the same determination. Yet they were still finding themselves overwhelmed. Mathilda was ready to die but it seemed that the Emperor had other plans as Saint Celestine appeared and turned the tide of battle to their favour. The battle was soon won with the combined efforts of Salamanders and Sisters of Battle being led by Saint Celestine. The two forces then departed, each moving on to another battle.
Mathilda fought many more battles, rising in rank in time she became a Celestian Superior. Eventually she was sent on a mission to assist Inquisition with the capture of several Alpha Legion Space Marines who had caused an entire planet to revolt against the Imperium. The Inquisition wanted the capture of the Alpha Legion if possible and set them to the highest priority. Mathilda and her squad easily advance against the cultists and PDF as she and her squad were also being supported by Inquisitorial Storm Troopers. Then the mission went south as Mathilda found out that the attack force that had been sent to take out the Aquilla Strongpoint had been repelled as the Alpha Legion Space Marines had been stationed there instead of Governor Palace as the Intel had originally suggested. The Aquilla Strongpoint began to rain down fire, eliminating anyone it targeted. Mathilda and her squad made her way towards the Strongpoint along with half the other teams sent to the city. When Mathilda arrived near the strong point, Alpha Legion Space Marines began to open fire with their bolters and plasma guns. Firing several frag grenades in response, Mathilda, her squad and the storm troopers accompanying her rush the Aquila Strongpoint. Several of them were cut down by the bolter fire but those that did make it inside engage the Alphe Legion Space Marine in close range fire fights and in close combat. Although the Alpha Legion Space Marines were outnumbered, both sides took heavy losses and eventually it came down to Mathilda and a single Alpha Legion Space Marine. The two fought but Mathilda was outclass. As Mathilda was on the ground she turned to face the Alpha Legion Space Marine and smiled as she then drop two Krak Gernades, detonating them both, ready to meet the Emperor but somehow she survived. Still wounded, Mathilda look around as her sense came back to her. She saw the Alpha Legion Space Marine attempting to limp away. Mathilda slowly got up before pointing her Inferno Pistol at the Alpha Legion Space Marine and fired it, killing the Alpha Legion Space Marine instantly.
When Mathilda gave her report the Inquisitor in charge was furious, stating that she should have attempted to capture the Alpha Legion Space Marine instead of killing him. He blamed Mathilda and her order for what he considered a failure of a mission. Not wanting to bring dishonour to her Order and for ignoring an Inquisitorial Order, Mathilda took the Repentia oath.
Mathilda went on several minor missions at first, which she survived and did not find resolution to her crimes. Yet for each battle that Mathilda survived another one appeared to challenged her. This newest one was a large one. Here she had to fight Ork Greenskins while fighting alongside guardsmen. Mathilda and her sisters found themselves in the presence of several Sanctioned psykers and even a Primaris Psyker. As the battle raged on, Mathilda and her squad charged several shoota boyz and would have been cut down if that for the intervention of the Primaris Psyker who created a forcefield around the Repentia allowing them to charge the Orks and engage them in close combat. Mathilda suffered several critical injuries that would kill a human but she kept fighting on, ignoring the pain. When the battle ended she feel to the ground, her life ending but several of the Sanctioned Psykers who had assisted Mathilda squad began to heal her and her fellow Repentia. Mathilda was enraged when she found out what happened, seeing that she had been tainted by such powers who didn't allowed her to go to the Emperor side in death. If not for her Mistress, Mathilda would have killed the Psykers. In the next engagement, Mathilda found herself, her fellow sisters and guardsmen facing an Ork Stompa who had taken out their heavy support. Realizing that she and her fellow repentia where the best bet to destroying it, Mathilda and her squad charged the the Stompa, using their evisecerators to cleave into the Stompa and killed the crew. After the battle Mathilda realized if not for the Psykers she would have died and the Stompa would have wipe out the Guardsmen and her fellow Sisters of Battle. Thus Mathilda started to realize how important and useful Psykers were.
After the war, Mathilda was forgiven by her Order and allowed to return to her rank under the condition that she serves under Inquisitor Haribal of Ordo Herticus for the rest of her life.
