Name: Prince Rhaegar II Targaryen, 'The Dumb Dragon'
Age: 16
Affiliation: House Targaryen, Prince Aemon Targaryen most of all. They aren't just brothers, but the closest friends.
Appearance: Rhaegar is an average looking young man. He's handsome, though his looks aren't noteworthy. He has short white hair that he keeps cut shorter than most boys his age and has dull violet eyes that show a mix of strength and diligence. He stands at around 5'11 and is still growing, having his a growth spurt early on in his life. Physically, he is the exact definition of warrior-born. He is tall, lean and fierce in posture.
Profession: Prince of the Realm, Squire.
Equipment: Rhaegar wields a bastard sword, given to him by his father. Masterfully crafted, it is his weapon of choice and always has it on his person. He got his first set of armor when he was nine years of age and has been training to ride in it from the day he could. He currently owns a set of ebony colored steel with a black kite shield that bears the Targaryen Sigil on it. A short, red cape adorns his back though he prefers to remove it during practice. The armor is not ornate or elegant in anyway and you can see the dents and scratches that adorn it (even though it has been repaired many times).
He is also a dragon-rider, having formed a bond with the dragon
Theron after he hatched from an Egg sired by his fathers mount, Rhaegel. Much like his sire, Theron has green scales, although they resemble more the color of forest leaves, becoming near white at the base of his paws, wings and crest. His spikes are depicted as being white although a darker shade than Snowfyres. He is of fighting size but still a young dragon and nimbler in the air than the more elder of his kind.
Skills: His one and only real skill is his prodigious one with a sword. He is no master yet, but when it comes to boys his age, or within a ten year age range, he can outmatch them all as he has inherited Jons natural talent. His other skill would be that he knows what he knows both his strengths and weaknesses. He realizes that he is not a diplomat or a spymaster or money man. He is a soldier and fighter. He also knows that the only skills with a blade he possesses are the ones that are taught, not the ones that can only be acquired.
Biography: From the time he was a young lad, Rhaegar loved tourneys. From small lord's name day celebrations to grand tourneys of King's Landing, he wanted to attend them all. He dreamed of fighting and hosting his own one day. He saw a man die for the first time at a tournament when he was six years old, the killers lance ripping the throat out of a young knight from the southern Westerlands.
Shocked by this, his image of fighting was destroyed and he realized how dangerous it was. However, he never gave up on his dreams of becoming a knight. From the time he was six until he was nine he begged his father for some armor to train with. Sure he got wooden swords and small bucklers and lessons, but never actual armor with an actual (not edged) sword. Until his ninth name day. He donned his plain steel armor with a red dragon on the left breast and picked up a dulled short sword. He didn't even eat that night. He stood there, in the martial yard, for four hours swinging his sword at posts and sacks of hay until he exhausted himself and fell asleep on a pile of hay that he had hacked out of the dummies. He found a training partner in his eldest brother, Aemon.
Aemon trained with the sword to lead, Rhaegar trained with his sword to follow. The months of training together were some of Rhaegar's favorite childhood memories. One day, when he was 12, the two decided to try out edged blades. Rhaegar suffered a deep cut on his thigh and gave one on Aemon's tricep in return. Their father was furious and Rhaegar joked that the tanning he received was actually worse than the cut on his leg. It didn't scar terribly, but for a faint purple marking.
One night when he was thirteen years old one of his brothers had made fun of him for his slowness at reading and math, calling the young boy the
Dumb Dragon. That night he sat atop the battlements of King's Landing and looked out over the city. It was there, reflecting on what his brother had said that he became resigned to that. If he was to be the Dumb Dragon, let him also be the Dragon who would bleed and kill for his family when his bookish brothers or his leading brothers could not. The very next morning, he spoke his mind in the presence of not only his father and mother, but the entire court present in the Great Hall of the Red Keep "I will never sit on the throne of Dragon Stone, King's Landing, or any other place. I want to be like Aemon. Not my brother, but the old Aemon....the Dragonknight." That is, in the end, his ultimate life goal. To become a member, and later Lord-Commander, of the Kingsguard.
After all, what good is a fourth son if not to be the son and brother you can rely on to fight for you when no one else will.
Notes: He is the squire and protégé of the current Lord-Commander of the Kingsguard, Ser Podrick Payne.
