(Please don't be offended by this section, I'm just having fun, I'm not calling you an idiot. I'll explain the roleplay setup when I finish pretending to be snooty to explain the setting.)
Welcome to Bibliotheca, idiots. I am from the College of Diplomacy and Foreign Knowledge and will explain our wonderful society in ways the simple-minded can understand.
So you wish to join our brilliant society. I don't blame you. We are the best. But are you certain you're worthy? Very few can pass our tests. Do you think you can pass a test from each College (except Magic and, if you can call it a College, stultus)? Very well, if you wish to proceed.
You must pass a test from each of the following colleges. The College of Philosophy. The College of Mathematics. The College of History. The College of Linguistics. The College of Creativity. The College of Diplomacy and Foreign Knowledge. The College of General Sciences. The College of General Education. And the College of Architecture. Whichever you do best in will become your College, or area of expertise. Though, of course, you may visit the other Colleges and learn from them. Except for the College of Magic, which is classified. But that's only if you, by some miracle, succeed.
I'm certain you'll fail. Perhaps if you do mediocre, we will allow you to join the college of stultus and have the honor of being a slave to the smartest civilization in history. But stay away from the books, you savage! You would probably bend their spines.
*sigh* You are rather determined then, aren't you? Very well, I suppose I should tell you about our government. The Colleges can tell you about themselves, if you get in. We are a Meritocracy. Oh, you don't know what that means? Typical. It means that, instead of leadership based on birth or voting, we assign our leaders based on skill. Honestly, how will you pass the test if you're too stupid to know meritocracy? Our government is called The Conisillium (Latin for council, since you are simple-minded). It is composed of our top ten scholars, one from each (real) College, with a representative of stultus attending when nessecary. It is led by the esteemed Lady Rie, head of the College of Magic.
Alright, now for our Laws. Our laws keep workers in their place and protect against book mistreatment or desecration. We do not have laws to protect workers, as they are not intelligent enough to require rights. The laws around them keep them in line and productive. We are doing the imbeciles a favor, as they do not possess the intelligence to govern themselves. Our laws fully encompass the rights of books and thought. We also have laws surrounding magic and keeping order. The complete list can be found in Liber Iuris, which I doubt you're smart enough to read.
Our language of both study and leisure is Latin. If you don't speak it, you won't last long. The test is also in Latin, and it isn't multiple-choice. Just looking at you, I doubt you're smart enough to be able to grasp the basics.
Have you changed your mind yet? No? Very well, this way to the testing chamber. I do hope you speak Latin...
(Dawn)
That was fun. Never called someone an idiot so many times in a row. Anyway, most of us won't be immigrants. We'll be born in. At age 15, you take your tests and get put in a college. Stultus is an option for pcs. You'll be playing a slave, but it might be more interesting. Maybe we could have a stultus revolt or something. A lot of Stultus are also very intelligent, but not well-rounded. Like extreme versions of me. I'm great with English, but I can't do basic addition without pausing. So real-life me would be stultus (which is Latin for idiot). You can also be under 15 and nervous about your test.
The family structure is really off-kilter. The stultus aren't allowed to raise children, so they're sent to a nursery run by the College of General Education, along with children of people smart enough to qualify for basic human rights but don't want to spend the time to raise their own children.
Within Colleges, there are schools. 5 each, except for Magic, which has 7, and stultus, which has 3. For example, Mathematics has Calculus, Geometry, Trigonometry, Game Theory, and Algebra. One of the Schools of Magic is so secret nobody even knows its name. The schools of Stultus are tiered. On the top, in the 'least stupid' are the indoor slaves who clean and serve and are permitted to speak Latin. Second is the school of outdoor work. Mostly farmers. Lastly, the school of waste disposal, which is really just punishment for "not being smart enough" but nobody says it out loud.
Outside of stultus being the worst, Magic being the best, and foreigners being idiots, the colleges are fairly even. They do have separate functions, like the College of General Education giving vocational tests and the College of Diplomacy and Foreign Knowledge being in charge of Immigration.
The entire kingdom is in one building (not counting the surrounding fields where stultus work), divided into 3 main sections. 2 large blocks, each libraries, and a tower, with everything else, mostly dorms. There are no jobs or stores, everyone just lives on slave labor.
If you want to play a migrant or a stultus, that's totally cool. I'm thinking I might be stultus. At the moment it's one character each, which might change. I'm not big on plot, we start when we have people and if we think of something, we implement it later. Remember that a revolt by the college of stultus would end poorly since the College of Magic would just wipe them out, but then we could explore how they do without their slaves. Who knows.
If you're interested, please post below and we'll work out the details, then I'll make a thread for it. You can't be a Lord, Lady, or Professor (Lords and Ladies head Colleges, Professors head Schools). I'll give you the details of whichever College you're interested in. I'm also making an immigration website for them, I will link it when I'm done, but I obviously don't expect you to click an unfamiliar link, it's just there if you're curious. Let me know any questions you have. Anyway, I'm Dawn, I look forward to playing with you.
