But manipulating, or simply sensing emotions is an incredibly potent ability, many people are driven by what they feel, if you know exactly what they feel then manipulation becomes more a science than an art.

It's just a matter of being creative with how you use those abilities. Those which are more blunt, more suited to 'combat' are often far less versatile. Jerome is barely better physically than anyone he'll go up against. Emilia has an unparalleled ability to manipulate others, especially in times of stress. Devan can actually pull off gun kata (YouTube Equilibrium). As for upgrades,I imagine Jerome could heal so fast as to be near invulnerable, Emilia could manipulate the emotions of an entire crowd (political ambitions? Riot?) And Donovan could develop remote sensing, or maybe even vision across other spectrums. The only limits are the ones you put in place for yourself.

As you can see here, Emma had the ability to see sound as light. Similar to Dazzler from X-men. Using her Cello, she could not only entrance people while they were listening to her, but she could lure people to her by thinking about them as she was playing. This could be further amplified by something like a speaker, allowing her to lure a crowd of people to her. Additionally, she was able to use her ability offensively, by channeling the light produced from her cello and blasting it outward in an arc, like a concussive energy blast. Though, because a cello is a very large instrument, it wasn't something she could just use on a whim.

Hmmm, something more support-like. He uses his violin to enrapture an audience within... A fifty foot radius? That means everyone pauses what they're doing and just listen to the music. They enter an entranced mode and are basically in an unconscious state until the song ends.

I was thinking the idea of slowed perception of reality when listening to his music which means easy use of his bokken. Hmmm... I might combine those two.

Entrancement is always cool, and everyone loves a violin :D. Though must be awkward to have to carry it around. Not really something you could sneak in if people knew your capabilities.

The slowed perception idea is neat though. :)
