Name of Faction: Mechanicum ex Varousia
Species: Human
Leadership:
ArchMagos Prime Harakonie:
A strong believer in innovation over stagnation Harakonie was often at odds with other Magos though still succeeded to gain position through competence and understanding to restrain his own views for the time being. As he gained power and position though he progressively became more vocal though primarily kept his views local upon Varousia II and recruited like minded individuals primarily from throughout the Mechanicus . He never planned specifically for such a scenario as has happened but was quick to capitalize upon his new advantageous position.
Some have faulted him for being overly cautious initiating such programs as a communication blackout beyond the edges of the system and allowing no ship travel either his caution is generally understood as his caution served him well with his survival before the Imperium was fractured. Now he has fully declared freedom from the Imperium and that innovation and progress is the new way. Opening new fields of study and pushing for development while also building defenses and preparing for what he sees as an inevitable assault on his system.
Forge Master Prime Vaellose:
Head of research and development Vaellose is known for her fiery personality, zealotry, and brilliant mind. She is well renowned throughout the system with a reputation on various other forge worlds as well. Her reputation originally stemming from the fast that she started out as an elctro-priest serving as a combat focused tech-priest fighting the enemies of the Mechanicus wherever they could be found before having herself transferred into research but has generally been noted to focus her research towards combat related fields.
She generally found herself ostracized for most of her career for such reasons though was also accused by some of heresy for believing the Omnisiah called for innovation and that their nature should be to develop new technology. Her brilliant mind ideas caught the eye of Harakonie immediately and was rapidly brought to Varousia II to work under him. In such an environment she thrived and when the Imperium broke she was the first to declare for Harakonie when he called for secession. Her strong pious views put her at odds with many of her current peers most notably her idea to launch a mission to Mars to free the Omnissiah from the warp storm around Sol.
Artisan Prime Harradon:
A titan of a man even before his tremendous augmentations Harradon is now nearly fully mechanical believing greatly in the combination of machine and man. The creations of humanity are beauty to him and despite his bulk is known as well for his precision, attention to detail, and obsession with individual tasks. As a result despite being in charge of the manufactorums is still well known for descending down into them himself to fix or aid in production.
He is a native of Varousia II though holds no ill will towards the outsiders who have come to his world. Surprising to many he is a strong proponent that they break their isolation and interact with the rest of the fractured Imperium with the intent of bringing order to the chaos. His current objectives have been retooling factories away from the high cost large units to kit out forces on a smaller scale. This has put him at odds with those like High Princeps Tarvanna who believe large units such as the titans should be the mainstay of a forge world.
Genetor Prime Mathelouse:
Accused of tech heresy of 3 occasions Mathelouse survived for years on the knives edge before coming to the attention of Harakonie and in effect being rescued by him. Where most Mechanicus will at most look at improving machines in the long term Mathelouse believed that human had stagnated themselves and wished to improve the species and all species. She wished to genetically alter humans to become superior to what they are now including inducing increased psyker phenomena. Such actions resulted in the accusations against her which she barely survived.
Of course those ideas of hers also brought her to the attention of Harakonie who by the time he recruited her had built a reputation for harboring lost causes and as such became a home for cast offs of the Mechanicus sending them off to his little corner of the Imperium. Mathelouse was mostly kept under wraps there as she had an unfortunate tendency to still wish to discuss her ideas and findings despite the inherent danger they posed to her life. Currently she strongest supporter of Harakonie who has now at last removed almost all limitations for her research.
Logis Prime Sarvus
Perhaps the most traditional of the eclectic Synod that is the leadership of the Varousia system. A single minded man who focuses on his objectives then devotes his entire resources to the most pressing problems before moving on to the next. This has caused him to receive the reputation for being dull among the otherwise colorful group. He does not bear this any chagrin and it is not uncommon among the logis to earn such a reputation as it stands.
He is generally considered a neutral party in most debates that occur among the Synod instead having been forced to dive headfirst into the logistics of managing an independent system as such a task has proven to naturally be far more time consuming than previous tasks he has been assigned. Thus far he has continued as expected of one with his position and done an exemplary performance
Skitarius Craise
Commander of the Skitarii and all ground forces excluding Titans and Knights Craise is as stalwart and loyal to his commanders as he is mechanical. As expected of a Skitarii commander he is as like his compatriots is almost entirely mechanical with nearly every augment aimed towards making him harder to kill or more capable to kill others with several mechandendrites ending in various instruments of war. He served in several campaigns primarily against orks of the region and is a local of Varousia II.
He has pushed strongly for expansion of the Mechanicum as well as the reduction of the roll of titans and other large field pieces favoring a belief in a strong infantry and infantry support arm over large mechanical monstrosities. He has thus far been successful in the respect of improving infantry over titans and other heavy weapons much to the chagrin of High Princeps Tarvanna.
High Princeps Tarvanna
Commander of the titan legion Vivex. She has been a strong advocate for the expansion of the legion in the face of their lack of protection from the main Mechanicus but has largely been rejected due to the high resource cost of a single titan. As a result of this she has strongly advocated a major offensive towards nearby systems of major importance always favoring those with large open areas or one which could otherwise allow her to bring her titans to bear most easily.
Just as with Craise though Archmagos Harakonie has rejected these plans as well. Continuing to favor a defense doctrine above all else, one of planning and preparation. Without major resources diverted towards her titans though at best they can be maintained and without a real enemy the skills of the pilots will know as so Tarvanna knows she must find an enemy to engage in order to stay relevant and in a position of power with the Mechanicum.
Astra Basilikos Kerrod
Formerly an explorator Kerrod has since adopted the ancient title from the era of the Great Crusade. Never tied to Varousia in the past he was there merely by chance as he had been en route for supplies when the Astronomicon went dark and was forced to pilot his ships in on star charts. Once there it was an easy discussion to convince him to join the fledgling nation as master of the naval fleet.
A fearsome man with a fearsome reputation Kerrod is notorious for his harsh ways believing in acquiring knowledge at all costs he has no reluctance or compunction when it comes to removing a threat many times exterminating entire species to gain access to archeotech ruins. Naturally he favors exploring outward and learning what they can from nearby systems and bringing them into a unified Mechanicum believing such is the dream of the Omnissiah and that they should have pursued such a plan in lieu of the Treaty of Mars calling the Emperor's leaving the second chance of Mars. A political alliance of the three core members of the military cadres would be a powerful entity aside from all three rarely agreeing on most other topics aside from a need to go on the offensive.
Lord Baron Ollius Markariad
The closest one could find to a normal human as a member of the Synod Ollius is named for the famous Imperium hero and considers the need to live up to it. He commands the knights of House Markaria. The knights of Varousia III have always been very independent often acting separate from their titan masters. This progressed along ever more until they began to act completely separate from princeps and using their own auxiliaries to support them.
As a result of this they are generally considered completely independent and when time came to form the Synod were granted their own seat between Tarvanna and Craise. Having seen the horrors of war and without the hard indoctrination of his comrades he is the only military member of the Synod who does not support an offensive but instead building defenses to the point of requesting fortifications be constructed with the intent of using them as titan sized battlements in the event of an attack.

Skitarii regiments for ranged combat are armed predominately with hellguns though boltguns are common among the more elite regiments as well as higher ranked individuals. Integrated carapace armor is the primary defense measure as well as though officers utilize integrated power armor in place of carapace armor. The Skitarii favor close combat though where their augmetics and superior equipment give them the biggest advantage. Power weapons are not uncommon to see though the predominate weapons are of course chain and mono edged blades.
Predominately mechanized and heavy infantry Skitarii in armored vehicle formations generally utilize highly specialized mainstay combat vehicles. These generally include units such as Leman Russ Executioner and Punisher models. They currently operate 4 active super heavy tanks per regiment of 10,000 skitarii
Augmented Soldiers are normal humans akin to Imperial Guard though given minor implants or mechanical augmentations to make them more capable combatants and act as supporting forces to the mainline Skitarii. Equipped very well for their station their mainstay arm is the hellgun and carapace armor with a large percentage of heavy weapons teams in line infantry formations. They operate a large number of specialist formations such as drop troops, tank hunters, siege formations, and infiltration specialists. They also make up the bulk of the support units such as artillery and aerial forces supporting the ground forces. Utilizing large numbers of general purpose armored vehicles they are the main armored force of The mechanicusm and currently have 3 super heavy tanks per regiment of 10,000 soldiers.
Background: The foundation upon which the Mechanicum now rests was set well before the Emperor's demise by ArchMagos Prime Harakonie. A strong proponent of the Mechanicus returning to their days before their treaty with Terra he was naturally not alone in his views but generally was in the minority at least overtly anyway. There were and always would be rumors of major members of the Mechanicus chaffing under the rules imposed when negotiations with Terra had been completed centuries ago. Those who wished to climb high enough in the ranks could not be allowed to express such views though and those who were competent and capable with such outspoken views were generally shipped far from Mars.
This was the fate of Harakonie as he was sent far from Mars as he gained rank due to his capability within the Mechanicus. Sent over 60,000 light years away to the Varousia system to take charge of the forge world Varousia II. It was expected he would do well in such a position overseeing the production and survival of the forge world. It was also expected his beliefs would ensure he never became a major problem for even should he turn heretek it would be a simple matter to deal with him as it had been in the past for others.
From his position Harakonie did what he could to stay in the politics of the Mechanicus but distance alone removed him from the center of influence and thus made it difficult to have any hope of affecting events even as the Magos of a world. With this set in stone for now he set himself to a new task of acquiring like minded individuals. With contacts on Mars and elsewhere he found capable tech-priests and had requested their transfer to work under him. As these tech-priests had often made attempts to upset the status quo in their own small was it was almost universally accepted.
This allowed him to build a substantial cadre of tech-priests who did not support the current Mechanicus methodology but as he knew the Mechanicus would always be there to watch him he was forced to ensure their survival by disallowing innovation outside the confines of current Mechanicus doctrine. He did what he could to bend the rules but could never break them with Mars always ready to remove him and purge the ranks of the system which he occupied.
When the Tyranid hive fleet approached the Imperium Varousia became a hub for the preparing defense with soldiers and weapons shipped through constantly and an explorator fleet placed temporarily as added support to the system. When the Emperor awoke and annihilated the hive fleet the face of Varousia II was forever changed as information crossed the world at lightning speed. Such an opportunity was precisely what Harakonie had been seeking for his entire life. Temporarily suspending the data network to broadcast his message to all locations. With the Astronomicon dark there were few situations that could be theorized but almost all favored him he felt.
The first declaration was that the Adeptus Mechanicus was abolished in the system. The Mechanicum of old was to be reformed with Varousia II at it's heart. Harakonie instated himself as ArchMagos of The Mechanicum and that the Synod was to be reinstated as well. With many of the tech-priests of the world feeling themselves indebted to Harakonie or opposed to Mechanicus rules opposition was nearly non-existent with the only potential risks coming from the military arms on planet such as the Skitarii, Titan Legion, and Explorators in orbit. Naturally Craise of the Skitarii and Tarvanna of the Titan Legion largely disinterested in such changes both largely apart from much of Mechanicus inner conflicts taking easily to the minor changes in roles and new titles. Lord Baron Ollius Markariad had been the first of the military sects to ally with the Mechanicum having been personally asked to join and seeing an opportunity to elevate his knights to a level concurrent with the titans took it securing a position in the ruling Synod. Kerrod had been the last to join with the Mechanicum, an explorator he had never been closely tied to Mechanicus doctrine and it is still unknown what took him a full day cycle to decide on but in the end he joined with the Mechanicum taking his seat within the Synod.
After this was decided many expected reprisal from Imperium forces of a great crusade to secure nearby worlds but Harakonie authorized no ships to leave the system and no forces came. A communication blackout was enforced and all things became quiet in the Mechanicum. Some questioned Harakonie for making a bold move to declare secession and follow it with inaction. The quiet now eats at many and minor political divides now exist throughout the Mechanicum with the great debate being if they should strike out at the Imperium to bring worlds under Mechanicum control, try to communicate with nearby worlds, or simply continue to try and live in peace.
The most hawkish tech-priets now point only to the supplies of the system and how they can barely sustain what they have and that they need more to survive and avoid stagnation. With so many tech-priests pushing now for innovation the point of imminent stagnation is tantamount to death for them all. This leaves Harakonie n the difficult position as more and more look to him and ask directly, no longer if they will attack, but whom.
