Nancy smiled when Nathan told her his plans for his, now one, free elective. "Music, huh? That's cool! I always wanted to learn to play an instrument, but honestly, I don't think I have the patience for it. Even if it was just singing. I got my hands full with cooking and my magic. Oh! It's plant magic, by the way, that's why I have to take hort. Well, no, that's not true. I have to take it cause my sponsor told me to. 'Nancy I am tutoring you to cook in the summer, you need to focus on that magic of yours! That's why I'm sending you after all!' He told me before I left for here. It's kind of lame but he's right. Besides learning to use my magic better will help me in the long run but ugh, I didn't get the chance to tell my other friends that I wasn't going to be taking cooking so Feli is going to be majorly bummed when she finds out..." Nancy sighed but suddenly realized that she was just complaining to her new partner and immediately perked up. "Oh! Sorry man! Seriously it's not like I have any actual problems with taking hort. It's like algebra. You know you have to take it, and while it's not that hard its still not your first choice of class if that makes sense." Nancy shrugged.

"Well I've gone on about myself for awhile...hey, if I can ask, why do you want to take music?" Nancy asked him, once again smiling. "You know, to help me get to know ya! But no rush, we do have all year after all."

Ruby Doer

Ruby barely had time to say that she was ready when another priest came up to the headmaster and whispered something to him. She couldn’t catch much of what was said, but she did hear that there had been some kind of mistake. Before she could ask what it was, she was ushered off the podium with Loke and forced to stand on the sidelines as another pairing was brought up to the stage. Well, this was...Terrible. Terrible was a good word here right? She was pulled from the podium before she could be bonded. She never heard of this happening before and she could see what was left of the crowd whispering among themselves. What had went wrong? Nobody was telling her or Loke anything... She looked towards the headmaster as if he would give her some kind of hint... But he was dealing with other issues right now.

The moment Franceska spoke out of line, and began her little tirade, a hush fell over the room. All the whispers of confusion stopped as the blonde girl laughed, letting insults spill out in every direction like wine from an overflowing goblet. The very tone with which she addressed the headmaster seemed to cause a chill through the room, one that was visibly felt. Loyola turned to the girl slowly, big black eyes peering down through his glasses. Even the gazes of the Druids seemed much colder now, looking at the belligerent child with quiet disdain and judgement. There was a moment’s pause before Loyola spoke, the deep, rumbling voice amplified through the dead silent hall.

“Franceska Vrodiskovich. Daughter of the esteemed Vrodiskovich family, born in Maefeld, I believe. Aren’t you a little old to be confused as to the nature of this ceremony?” he asked, his tone warm but words cutting.
“As for your confusion, there is no mistake nor joke. Please, try to have some maturity befitting a young woman of your station, and do refrain from calling your peers ‘peasants’. Unless you need a remedial lesson in history, do remember the importance of this ceremony, you are not being bonded to a servant. That goes for all students here. This is not simply a partnership, this is your entrance into the realms of adulthood. You will be expected to act with maturity, with dignity, and with eloquence. Such childish behavior, you will find, will not be permitted in our venerable halls.” he continued, before giving a head nod to the Druids. The female Druid nodded back, holding out her hand to Franceska, the warm smile no longer on her face.
“Hands, please. Let us not waste any more time.”

Well, it seemed things could be kind of worse, after all, Ruby thought after watching the spectacle that was on the podium before a new, much younger druid came up to them.

"Ah! Sorry for the wait, we need you two to come with me, there's been a bit of a mix up you see, and well... You got paired up with the wrong partner." The druid admitted as he lead the two students to a private room where they could fix the situation. "Don't worry, my partner should be bringing back the two who you two are supposed to bond with shortly." He told them when he noticed his partner wasn't back yet.

@duskshine749 @Heartlessnobody @Republic
@liferusher Congrats, your character has water magic. As that suggests, she can control water, but only in liquid form. No controlling steam or ice or anything like that. She also can't pull water from the air and especially not from living things. Basically, she has to have a source of water to draw from.

@General Scales
Also, Mui and Janine are now paired up!

@6slyboy6
Let me just stop you right there spud. The character you are describing would not be realistic for the world me and my fellow gms have made. Your character saying they want to be a mage would just be very out of place. Also, a mage is incredibly weak without their familiar, and vice versa. A mage is no more and no less powerful than a familiar. Honestly being a familiar offers a lot more opportunities in this rp too. Mages are restricted to one of 12 magics. Familiars? The sky's the limit and some familiars can even have powers that either mimic some magic types or are completely protected from them. We have a character that is fire proof, which means if she were to attack one of the fire mages in this, guess what, they might as well not be mages for all the good their magic will do them. Plus having a character who sees magic users as the better goes against some of the lore we have too. So do not make that character that way. She won't fit in with the world.

Familiars are more than just batteries of magic to be drained. They not only have magic inside of them, they also have their own unique power that is not magic. Honestly, people are underestimating the familiars, and I think it's because we chose to call them familiars, but we've done our best to make it clear from the beginning that they are equal. So one last time for anyone at all that might be seeing this.

"MAGES AND FAMILIARS ARE EQUALS! THEY ARE YIN AND YANG! ONE IS NOT INHERENTLY BETTER THEN THE OTHER! THEY HAVE A SYMBIOTIC RELATIONSHIP THAT HELPS FAMILIARS AS MUCH AS MAGES!"

'Geez, my new partner is super quick," Nancy thought as she watched Nathan speed over and get his stuff and then speed right on over to the volunteers right as she was getting to his luggage. Was this dude on the track team or something...did the school even have a track team? Heck if Nancy knew, but hey if they did she was pretty sure Nathan would make the cut. Nancy quickened her pace so that she wouldn't keep her new partner waiting and once she was over there, the volunteers started to show them to their room.

"Man, I missed this place..." Nancy said as she took the sights in as they were lead down the castle's halls. Over the course of last year, this place had become a second home to her. It was where she had met two of her closest friends and last year had been the first time she had been so far from home for so long. She grew up in a lot of ways in just her first semester here and now that she was bonded, she was bound to grow up even more. It was going to be an interesting year!

When the volunteers finally got them to their room and handed them their elective sign up sheets, Nancy thanked both of them before heading into the room. "Woo!" She cried out happily as she saw how much room she had now. Communal living had been fun for maybe the first week, but after all the excitement had died down, it actually kind of sucked to be crammed in with that many other people at once. Especially during flu season. That had literally been the worst. But, now she was sharing a large room with only one person and there was even a retractable wall to make it feel like she had her own good size room all to herself! Being an upperclassman, even if she was only second lowest on the totem pole now, was the best!

Nancy quickly turned to Nathan, eyes wide and smile big from this new rush of happiness she felt. "Okay, so we need to decide who's on which side, ground rules for the room, um," Nancy looked down at the sheet that held the list of electives on it. "We should probably figure out these first." She looked at them. Hort and Cooking were the ones she wanted to take. But she had to take Hort, that's what her sponsor wanted after all. But...She looked down monster hunting. She heard it was mandatory. "I guess we'll be taking monster hunting together. I plan on taking Horticulture too. I have to take that class actually." Nancy told Nathan with a chuckle. "What about you, dude?"

Ruby Doer

Ruby's anxiousness had come back with a vengeance as she continued to wait to hear her name. So many pairs had gone up now, it seemed like half the room was gone. Being called on last never felt good. It was like being told you weren't good enough to get your name called before that point, even if that wasn't the picker's intention. If that wasn't bad enough, some students held the superstition that the pair called on last was the least likely to get along and do well. It was probably from the fear that if they couldn't find you a pair sooner, you might not work well with anyone and thus had to be paired up with the only other person left. Ruby knew those were silly notions but she couldn't help thinking of them as yet another name was called. She wondered if her sister had felt this way when she had waited to get paired up with her partner.

And then, like a sudden crack of thunder, she heard it. Her name, as well as her partners, being called out to come up to the podium. Ruby felt some relief that she wasn't called last, but now it was time to meet her partner for the year. With a deep breath, Ruby got up, leaving her things at her seat as she made her way to the podium. Ruby could see Loke walking to the stage as she did. Around her height and white hair. While she didn't regret spending as much time as she could with her sister last year, she did regret not getting to know the other students a bit more, so that she might know who this guy was. But well, she had the whole year to figure that out right?

Ruby quickly climbed the podium's steps and gave a nod of greeting to both the headmaster and the Druids that would be bonding her and Loke, before turning to the boy himself. "Um...Hello." She said in an unsure tone. What did one say to the stranger they were about to be bound to by their very souls for the next school year? Nice to meet you? No, to generic. Nice weather we're having? No, to out of touch with the current situation. You and I are about to become one huh? No, that sounded super awkward even in her head, Ruby couldn't even imagine how awkward it would sound if she actually said it. "Uh, yeah....ready when you are..." She ended up saying as she rubbed the back of her head in an awkward way. It wasn't great, but nothing better had come to mind. Hopefully, her partner wouldn't take that as a sign that she just wasn't interested in him at all.

Announcement

There has been a change with the electives. Everyone is now required to take monster hunting. We decided this because this will be a plot-heavy class and we don't want anyone to miss out on it. If you've already written two other electives for your post, there's still time to change it.

@pkken@hammerman sorry for this change guys since you're a little past picking your electives, but this was something we've been thinking about all day.

@canaryrose

Also, for everyone else, I added what Nancy did during her summer break in her cs for those curious (because I forgot to when I made her cs and just now remembered XD)

Nancy was relieved when Nathan not only held his hand out to her but also told her that she gave him goodies last year. Good, that meant that Nathan thought she was at least somewhat nice. Nancy could work with this. "Yeah man, that was me! Which I guess means we must of have some classes together last year. Thought I recognized ya!" Nancy told him with an even bigger smile than before. Then the druids motioned them to come closer, the Sacramentum was going to start.

Nancy held her hand out, letting it be put on the pedestal and kept still and silent as the druids chanted and dripped the water onto their hands. It was a strange feeling having the seal put on. Not a bad one of course just weird. Like a buzzing underneath the skin...no that wasn't it. It was kind of like...having something warm, but not too hot, being placed on the back of her cold hand. Yeah, that was what the feeling was like. It didn't last too long, though, because as soon as they finished chanting and Nancy moved her hand away, it slowly started to fade to soft brown.

"Woah man..." Nancy said in awe as she traced what she could see of the seal before it turned brown, only to be seen as its vibrant red again when Nancy next practiced magic. She once again smiled at Nathan, glad this was going so well so far. "Well dude, I guess we should be getting to our rooms now." She told him as she quickly ran over to where she left her things and wheeled them over to Nathan and the volunteers to be lead to their rooms.

@MechonRaptor

Ruby thought it would be easy to keep up with Korrey since his load was heavier than hers, meaning he couldn't go as fast as he could have been. But as they got to the school doors and the crowd became thick with students, Ruby found herself not only separated from Korrey, she also lost track of him entirely. Impressive seeing how tall the two of them were. Well, seeing how she still had some of his luggage, Ruby hopped that she A) didn't have something important, and B) was able to find out his room number quickly so she could bring it back to him.

All thoughts of Korrey left her mind though as she entered the Sun Room. It was just as radiant as she remembered, the color's that washed over the students were just as vibrant, and that mystical feeling that Ruby felt the first time she ever entered the Sun Room was still just as strong. Ruby often imagined that entering an ancient, long forgotten temple would give her the same feeling of awe. If Ruby could, she would have stood still to take in the whole room and every detail, but the students around her weren't exactly inclined to let her just stand there when she was in the way so she kept moving until she finally came to a stop in the crowd around the podium.

Another part of being in the sun room that Ruby liked was listening to Headmaster Loyola's speeches. He was an amazing public speaker, knowing how to get the room to laugh and able to captivate his audience as well as he prepared students to receive their sacramentum bonds. He certainly helped Ruby with the slightly anxious feeling she had when it came to getting her partner. Speaking of which, she recognized one of the first names to be called up. Korrey!

Ruby quickly scanned the room to see if she could recognize Korrey's future partner. It didn't take long for Ruby to see the blonde girl that Korrey had been talking to earlier had been chosen as his partner. She seemed nice earlier, so Ruby was glad that her friend wasn't paired up with someone not nice. She hoped she could say the same for herself when the time came.

Nancy Jones

Nancy didn't know what she had been hoping for as she and her two friends waited to hear their names called. She kind of didn't want to be called up, or at least not last as she seemed to be destined to be. Not that she wasn't supportive of her friends! She happily cheered for Felicity and Monty as their names were called, happy to see them paired up with interesting and seemingly nice people (that Korrey dude seemed nice but Nancy could feel the "little brother is concerned" vibe that Monty was sending out). But now she was worrying in ways she hadn't thought of till now. What if her partner was scared of her? Monty had been scared of her at first so it wasn't an impossibility. What if she made her partner uncomfortable? She knew her friends would tell her that that was ridiculous, but it was still a worry she had.

But Nancy wasn't allowed to worry about it for long after Monty was called up because her name and her partners were being called.

"Nancy Jones and Nathanial Zane Elswood"

Shoot, Nancy knew that name. But where did she know it from? Trying to remember was like trying to remember something vital for a test and having it on the tip of your tongue. But that didn't stop Nancy from trying as she made her way up to the podium. It was here that she finally saw her partner. She...still couldn't place him. Was he in one of her previous classes before? Or just happened to be someone in the right place and time as she handed out goodies? That might have been it. She really hoped it was the latter as it would show she's not completely scary as she looked. To help further drive that point home, she gave Nathanial a smile and held her hand out to him. "Hey dude, nice to meet you! I'm Nancy, looking forward to working with you this year."

They can, it's part of your characters privileges at the school (though remember, getting bad grades means getting those privileges taken away).
