@onenote Hey, i know this is kinda late, but the GM team has been talking about it, and we dont wanna come off as rude, but do you mind changing your character picture to something that fits with the others pictures, since it is really different style, again we dont wanna come off as rude or anything, just a tiny nit pick that we cant get past, other then that you're still accepted!
Hey, I can understand wanting artistic cohesion and all with cs's but, that picture of Ruby is something I drew myself. That's as close as showing what she looks like as I can get I think. I know it's not in the same style as the others but there's nothing else really that's tailor-made as something like this. It feels like a waste to not use something I made for this character just because others used a different style of picture, you know? Like, I like being able to draw my own character and not have to rely on other pictures that might not fit my character as much as I would like. I get not everyone can do that but that's what makes it special for me.
@onenotei mean it’s up to the gms. They said it was rare for that to happen. But I’m ok either way. Could give them something to bond over. The knowledge that their training is basically killing their parents. I didn’t go into it on my cs but lach came to terms with it when he was younger, his father explaining something to him which helped him accepted it greatly
Ahhhhhhh nothing like knowing you both are slowly killing one of your parents to bring people closer XD But yeah that could be interesting!
@CAWs For Alarm@Kitty So I have questions about magic and our weapons. Are they allowed to have a power that doesn't really have anything to do with our character's element? I mean I know Grnmachine's character has hypnosis and Esmeray's weapons can shrink so that's why I'm asking.
Okay, I just want to preference my cs by saying I added more info on the shadow tendrils and spikes, added her familiar, history and other section. I also want to say I didn't know about Aerandir having his character's father be the previous chosen for his element because I didn't really look over his cs until just a bit ago. I thought I was being original with Ruby's mother until I was just about done and looking over some of the other characters to see how to end Ruby's bio. So if I need to change Ruby's mother to not be the previous shadow chosen, that's fine, I just wanted to see first since I spent a bit of time writing it out (and its not a big deal if I do need to change it since Aerandir went with that angle first and I was just to dumb to actually look before I wrote).
Name: Ruby Dewer Age: 22 Gender: Female Sexual Orientation: Bisexual
Chosen Marking:
This is located at the base of the back of her neck.
Appearance:
Familiar: Name: Cecilla
Chosen Element: Shadows
Shadow manipulation: Basically she can manipulate shadows to look different. She can make them bigger or smaller, can turn a man's shadow into a beast's and so on. But the more drastic the change, the harder it is to do and it gets harder to keep up over time. There are also times when Ruby can't manipulate the shadows and nothing happens to the owner of the shadow because their shadow is being manipulated. So essentially, all this is good for is possible scares and so Ruby can be the best shadow puppet champion.
Entering shadows: Ruby can go into shadows and stay there. Its like it's own little pocket dimension that is only limited by how big the shadow is. Ruby can only enter if the shadow is big enough and she can't breathe inside of a shadow so she'll eventually have to surface for air. Also if the shadow moves she'll be moved (think if she's in the shadow of a buggy and that buggy moves she will be taken along for the ride unless she gets out) and if someone shines a light on the shadow to make it disappear, she will be forcibly ejected from the shadow. She can not manipulate the shadow that she is in and she will cease to manipulate a shadow if she enters it. She can bring other people into the shadow with her if the shadow is big enough.
Shadow balls: Ruby is able to take a shadow, ball it up and throw it at something or someone. The ball can be made in various sizes, with the bigger ones hurting the most but being harder to throw. A baseball sized one would hurt about as much as getting hit by a baseball would but it's easier for ruby to throw. Meanwhile, a beach ball sized one would hurt significantly more but would be harder for Ruby to throw, so she would need to be close by.
Night vision: A passive ability that allows Ruby to see in the dark. Oddly enough her Night vision is better than her normal vision.
Shadow tendrils: Essentially tendrils that come from the shadows and latch onto something or someone, either holding them down tossing them. The Tendrils can reach up to about 10 feet, with the more stretched out it is the thinner it is. While they can be cut, depending on how far out they're stretched it could be as easy as cutting through paper or cutting down a tree. They also can be burned or frozen or potentially destroyed by other means.
Shadow spikes: Much like shadow tendrils, but instead spikes shoot out of the shadows. The spikes size is restricted by the shadow's size and they can not leave the shadow. Spikes can get up to five feet in length and like the tendril can also be cut, with the close you are to the tip being the easiest to cut and the closest to the base being harder to cut. Unlike the tendrils, they can no be burned but if you were to freeze them you could then smash the spikes to bits.
Weapon:
It's slightly longer than her forearm and only the outside is sharpened to cut, the inner curve can be used to bludgeon.
Personality: Ruby’s not that great at first impressions. Blunt, serious, and standoffish, she seems aloof at best, and hostile at worst. Her socially awkward nature and directness make her come off as unfriendly, but that couldn’t be farther from the truth. Ruby wants friends, doing her best to curb her blunt tongue and practice small talk, but socialization is hard for her to understand. She feels inept both in company and in her place as one of the chosen, though she had no real choice in the latter. She feels there must have been some kind of mistake when she was chosen, and that everyone is waiting for her to show her worth. She trains hard and works hard, desperate to prove herself, but because of that, she has often neglected friends she has made. Again, that’s not to say she doesn’t want any, but with her limited time and energy, she just doesn’t know how to balance her life very well.
History:
The day Ruby was born, and her mother, Alyssa, held her and looked her over, she couldn't help but laugh. She and her husband William had been trying for years to conceive a child. With each passing year, the hope that they would be able to hold a child in their arms that they could call their own dwindled. Adoption was an option but they wanted someone that would sure a closer connection to them, something that could only be shared by blood. And then one day to their surprise, they discovered that Alyssa was expecting. The joy the two felt only grew as each day brought them closer and closer to meeting their child. And then, they welcomed Ruby into the world, ready to give her all the love they could give. It wasn't until they saw the mark on their little Ruby's neck that they realize the gravity of the situation. Their daughter had been chosen the God of Shadows. William was somber but Alyssa couldn't help but burst out laughing at the irony.
"Well dear, I was wondering when my successor was going to be born." She told William as gently traced her daughter's mark, the very same one that was on the back of her own neck.
It was hard for William to accept at first. He knew that more likely then anything, he would outlive his wife by quite a bit. It was the hazard of being married to a chosen and he had accepted it. But he wasn't prepared for the gods to pull this kind of cruel trick on him. They had wanted a child so badly so that even after Alyssa passed on, he would still have a part of her with him. And now the Gods were claiming that as well. While Alyssa wasn't thrilled about the situation either, she quickly accepted it. They couldn't change anything and be hurt by it would only hurt their daughter. She knew too well from experience. Alyssa knew that this situation wouldn't end well for their family, she was determined to make it something that William and Ruby could recover from in the end. And with Alyssa's help, William was able to come around to be the father Alyssa needed him to be.
The two tried to give Ruby as happy of a childhood as they could, one where she could grow up happy and make good memories. For a while, they were able to do this but eventually, they had to tell her about her future. It had been...rough for Alyssa when she was told the burdens of being a chosen. That her life meant the death of her mentor and that she to would one day die so that her successor would live just for that cycle to repeat. It didn't help that Ruby was 8 when they told her. Ruby had taken it worse then Alyssa had. When the information finally sunk in, Ruby spent days not saying anything, just holding onto her mother silently, as if terrified that at any moment, she could disappear. Alyssa did what she could to reassure her that things would be okay, that she wasn't going to leave her anytime soon and though she was able to get Ruby to interact with the world once more, she knew that her daughter wasn't going to be the same.
Ruby spent the next two years before training spending time with her family, not so much out of fear of losing her mother anymore but to get as much time as she could with them. These memories would be the ones that she looked back fondly on for the rest of her life. Shortly after her 10th birthday, Ruby's training started. It wasn't hard for Ruby to compare herself with her mother. There was no one else like Ruby in the world and...she was supposed to take her mother's place. It wasn't hard for Ruby to find flaws in herself, in her skills and abilities. Even normal things like talking to people outside of her family were hard for Ruby. She didn't feel like she was someone as great as her mother or the other chosen. But outside of her death, there was no way to get a different chosen and that wasn't an option for her, she knew that. So Ruby threw herself into her training, and in doing so she created more cherished times with her mother, like the first time they hopped into a shadow together, or her and her mother manipulating the shadows for a show for her father. Any shortcomings she felt she had, she tried to fix herself or keep to herself to keep her mother from worrying. She even tried to make friends over the years as well but she kept those at a distance, not willing to put the time into them to let them grow stronger yet, convinced that she needed to grow stronger first.
Theme: Winter (The Wind can be still) Dialogue Color: Dark Purple Other: - Ruby's father William, a blacksmith by trade, made her weapon, as he did for Alyssa. - Cecilla is completely blind in her baby form but not her grown form. While in her baby form, she prefers to stay on either Alyssa or Ruby. - While Ruby is not blind without her glasses, unless its dark where she's at, she prefers to keep them on.
Can we maybe get more info on the world? Like how the gods are viewed by the public? Also perhaps what relationships are like for the gods (i.e. who likes who and who dislikes who) since that might play into our characters histories?
So I'm posting this as a wip right now because I want to see some of the other's histories before I make her's and I'm still not sure how to go about making a familiar for her. But let me know if there are any problems with it as is right now.
