Quantum Magic*
Magic Level:
Due to Rilr being a wanderer rather than a guild member it's rather difficult for him to judge how strong he truly is. From his travels however he estimates he is a high B-rank wizard.
History:
What’s the point of magic if you can’t use it? This was a question Rilr had asked himself since he first learnt about the magical arts on this fourth birthday. His family were somewhat hesitant when it came to such things and thus his first encounter of magic was when he found an old book in his grandfather’s house. His grandfather – on Rilr’s mother’s side – was someone who Rilr knew very little about. He rarely got to visit his grandparents due to them living so far away and that day was only the second time. The first being when he was only a year old.
What this book contained was nothing extraordinary but still since Rilr knew nothing of magic due to his parent’s never using it found it to be an abundant source of knowledge. Form this book he learned things he could never of dreamed to be true. There were tales of people who could achieve seemingly inhuman feats thanks to magic: from engulfing themselves in flames and remaining unharmed to being able to create things just from simple sketches. The possibilities were endless and Rilr wanted to pursue as many of them as he could.
Those dreams led him on. Magic wasn't entirely stable and his parent’s warned him of that but still Rilr pursued his dreams. Quantum magic was especially unstable since you could never truly know if what you changed would stay like that for long enough. It was like a constant time bomb without a visible countdown – it could go off at any second. Through years of training (approximately 13 considering it took Rilr two years to even be able to start using basic magic) he was ready to being his own journey. Surprisingly little went wrong during his training the only casualties were of a few dozen rats in his neighbour’s basement and a cat. At this time he was nowhere near a master of his magic – he wasn’t even sure whether he could class as a D-rank wizard or not – but still he decided it was time to move on.
The next years of Rilr’s life weren't easy. He’d heard of various artefacts which contained traces of an ancient civilisation. What was in most of them was unknown since only two or three had been discovered and even those weren't within the reach of the public. So rather than join a guild like most wizards Rilr began his search alone. Sure along the way he had picked up a few companions but they always parted ways before anything dangerous happened. Dangerous of course often meant delving into various ruins and to this very day nothing extraordinary was found inside of them. A few talismans at most but still Rilr never faltered.
Then, there is the present. So what is the point of magic if you can’t use it? Rilr had asked himself that and he never really did find the answer. Maybe he’d only asked himself that question because he’d assumed everyone in his village simply couldn't use it since they never did. The question now only wavers in Rilrs memory from time to time but otherwise it is all but forgotten.
Personality: Rilr is often a cynical character and doesn't really understand that he shouldn't constantly speak his mind. Obviously he is an adventurer at heart - why else would he go jumping into those ancient ruins - but he also likes to consider himself as someone who stays out of the spotlight. As a person he tends to be a love him or hate him kind of guy since if you don't like him telling you what he thinks then you probably shouldn't be hanging around with him. On the other hand if you're okay with that sort of thing the chances are you'll get on swimmingly.
Team Members:
None that are permanent. He may temporarily work others but he never gets himself into any sort of permanent partnership.
Three Strengths:
1. He has a keen eye for detail which can make him a great companion for places where there may be traps or puzzles to take care of.
2. He's pretty darn lucky. If you can call that a strength at least. He always seems to land on his feet as it were. Also helps if he ends up gambling.
3.He knows a surprising amount of useless facts. It may not be very helpful but they are great at dinner parties.
Three Weaknesses:
1. Compulsive gambling. It's probably a side effect of his good luck but whenever someone offers to play him at cards - for money or not - he simply can't refuse.
2.His magic isn't very combat oriented unfortunately which does make people question why he adventures alone so often.
3. He gets headaches more often than he should. It doesn't happen too often and it isn't nearly as bad as a migraine. It still doesn't help his concentration in a battle though.
Greatest Love:
If you can call delving into ruins in search of ancient artefacts a great love I guess it's that.
Motivation:
Rilr doesn't really have a motivation to find the relics. He just decided to do it and will do until he finds something more worth his time.
Appearance:
Standing at approximately 6'2" Rilr's build can be described as lean so he certainly isn't the strongest of wizards. Face wise he got the standard package, his eyes are sea-foam green in colour and his skin tone is pale. His hair is cut somewhat long but it isn't over the top. If he were to where a collared shirt it would stop around the top of the collar and it is dark blonde it colour. It has been known to be lighter though. In terms of clothing he tends to just wear simple travelling clothing nothing too fancy.
Additional Details:
* = Quantum magic is the manipulation of the world around you. While nothing permanent can come of this magic it does make quite the useful utility due to the magic focusing on manipulating matter among other things such as gravity. In it's most basic form things such moving a wall to reveal a hidden path can be accomplished. The more skilled you are the greater the changes you can make. The greatest downfall of this ability is that it can't actually manipulate magic or people meaning you would need something around you already in order to counter-act another wizard. You could consider Quantum magic to be one of the most basic magic's since there are various other forms which split off into more refined paths - a fine example being gravity magic - but due to it's wide spectrum of abilities a quantum magician can never truly be powerful in any one of these paths as they are essentially a jack-of-all trades.
