Night has fallen over Aerune, capital city of Veronia. The people of the city are sleeping, safe in their beds. Guardsmen patrol the streets with their lanterns. Even at night the splendor of the city can be seen. The moon casts an unearthly glow on the marble statues that line the marketplace, and the light glints of the silver tips of the cathedral's spires.
In front of one building, in one of the poorer districts, a lantern is hung. It burns a strange blue color, a signal to those looking for it.
The building itself is unassuming, it looks like an abandoned warehouse giving way into genteel dilapidation. But as the five strangers would find when they gave the signal knock at the door, and were let in by an unknown mechanism, things are not always as they seem.
The inside of the building was well adorned, lit by candles and a fireplace roaring in one wall, one could easily mistake the place for one of the more high end taverns in the city. In front of the front of the fireplace was a large table already set with food and drink. In the center of the table a note was pinned by a dagger. It Read:
I apologize for being unable to greet you myself, as urgent business has kept me at the Palace this evening. To the five of you arriving tonight: I'm aware that you've yet to be told why I've summoned you all here, and unfortunately explanations will have to wait till my arrival tomorrow. Until then, enjoy the amenities of the safe house, it is one of many placed in various locations throughout Veronia for agents needing a place to regroup. As such it has accommodation for each of you, and a fully stocked larder. Additionally, one part of the basement houses an armory and training room, and the other a small alchemy lab. Until such time as I can arrive to make more clear why I have summoned you all here to the capital, I expect you all to get along, strangers though you may be, you have all taken the same Oath as a Player.
I will be very put out if anyone is dead by the time I arrive.
