DESCRIPTION: Mason stands at an even 5'5 tall. His hair is the color of chestnuts, but is often unkempt, left wild because of his lack of care. From beneath the mop peers a pair of large almond-shaped blue eyes, his clothing is limited to clothes he steals from the laundromat when people leave for a few minutes, church donation bins, or yard sales.
HISTORY:
BEFORE THE KIDNAPPING: Mason was born into one of the most cliché, upper-east-side having a privileged home-life, growing up with loving parents and an older brother. Their life was a happy one. Their parents were always able to provide for all of their wants and needs. The family come from old money and of very high status. In fact, Alexander is a businessman for a large company and Rebecca socialite chair of charity boards.
But unknown to anyone in early April, someone had been watching Mason walk home for months; the person watched the boy walk right past their car every day. And thanks to a nosy neighbor, the stranger found out about the family and the father’s name and business.
Until one day, the day before Derek turned 12, his little brother was gone. Just disappeared into thin air. At first he couldn’t believe what was happening. It wasn’t until night started to fall that Derek knew something was wrong– his little brother had always been terrified of the dark.
Rebecca and Alexander became concerned about their youngest and began asking neighbors if they’d seen him. Calling the police and contacted their friends and family to help with the search, unknown to Alexander and Rebecca, this day was just the beginning of what would become a seven year long effort to find Mason.
LIFE WITH CHARLOTTE: The women offered to give Mason a ride home from school. In order to earn his trust she claims to work for his father and that his parents have been called away on urgent business, Mason didn’t have the maturity or experience to doubt her, so he got into the car. In no time Mason could tell that Charlotte was not driving toward his house, he started panicking, to keep the boy from becoming more anxious. Charlotte lied telling him that she was just taking a short cut, giving the hysterical boy juice mixed with sleeping pills to calm his nerves.
Days grew into weeks, Mason wanted to return home. He asked several times to go home, wanting the boy to stop asking to go back home, Charlotte finally lied telling Mason that she had contacted his parents, and his parents said they wanted nothing to do with him anymore. Soon, Charlotte changed the boy’s name to Salmon. She didn’t bring him up, she kept him like a pet, but without as much affection as most pets get.
The following years during his time with Charlotte he had suffered from repeated sexual abuse about once every two week from the day he was taken lengthening into years. Salmon tried to cope with his new life as well as a child could. Slipping into drinking and smoking before he was even out of childhood. As time went on, he quickly learned that by obeying her, Salmon could avoid the severe beatings used as punishment; it was her way of keeping Salmon from running away or telling others the truth. Gradually demoralized Salmon into self-willing captivity.
COMING HOME: Though he is reunited with his family, everything’s different now, Mason’s returning home was the beginning of another tragedy. He had lost any chance of a normal life, They tell him that he has a sister, Anna who he eventually meets and can’t fit in such a normal atmosphere. This is no longer his world. His parents/brother seem to have this mentality that 'women can't rape men/boys' so that is a constant problem with the family.
[This is still a HUGE work in progress]
