Fantastic. Any general ideas on characters you'd like to make? No rush, it'll just helps me tailor the OOC/map/town to be more specific to your characters 'personal nightmares' of sorts.
Beebee2121: There's a first time for everything. : )

ramblingbard: oops missed that bit. Depends on how many people show an interest. I'd be fine with people making a male and female character if it's a smaller group size (>5 players).

I'd like to get a couple more people on board before I make an OOC.
Thanks for the interest. : )

-You will be limited in what you can bring with you. I'll have a section in the blank CS for it. I want characters to start out fairly helpless with the bare necessities, to give them something to work towards. So, no weapons more dangerous than a pocket knife, no amount of food more than a bottle of water and a couple snacks, one personal memento, and one object that makes sense for your character, like if you're a photographer you can have your camera. Though keep in mind electronics won't work properly in the town (at least not in the beginning of the game). If your character is camping, either you or I can write an explanation of what happens to the rest of their belongings (stolen, missing, destroyed, ect).

-As for the background, you can go as tame or as dark as you want, but I ask that it have an actual purpose to your character's story/personality/development and not just be there for shock value. I'd personally prefer something that's in the middle and is well developed rather than something tame or extreme. If you go for those options I might make you explain your reasoning.
Depends on what forum people would like this in. Probably casual. I'd be fine with short, 4-5 sentences per post if people were posting a couple times a day.
Edit: I think i'll go with casual for this, so post any interest in this thread: http://www.roleplayerguild.com/topics/41476/posts/ooc
(Decided to go with casual for this rp, so post interest here: http://www.roleplayerguild.com/topics/41476/posts/ooc)

A dense mist rolls off the Bayou and creeps along the old cobblestone road. It almost appears to have a purpose and sense of direction as it glides along the path in front of your dimmed headlights. The only visible figure in the shroud of fog and weeping willows is an aged sign reading ‘Welcome to Saint-Vienne’. You’re finally here.

In 1796, the Vienne family owned a successful plantation and all the large plots of land surrounding it. The area was expansive enough to form a small town, and that was the exact thought process of the family. Through the combined power of wealth, slavery and blackmail, the secretive patriarch James Vienne went about creating Saint-Vienne, in hopes of it becoming a popular resort for the rich and famous.

The process was doomed from the start. Death followed the project like a vulture. Accidents were far too common, and rumors began to spread that the Vienne family was not the wholesome southern American dream that they so desperately tried to portray. Tales of torture, murder, incest and horrific experiments all circled the area, along with a story of a curse laid down upon the land.

The town was completed in 1813 and was beautiful and lavish by anyone’s standards, yet the public avoided it and the few surviving Vienne family members were forced to live out their remaining days in poverty.

History has since forgotten Saint-Vienne, but the town remembers everything.

-----------------------------------

-All characters will have a dark character trait or moment in their past that they're struggling to deal with.

-You find yourself drawn to the Louisiana ghost town for any number of reasons. Maybe you receive a post card from a family member or lover asking for your help. Maybe you dream about it every night. A job or road trip can have you 'passing through' the area. It's up to you. If your backstory requires an NPC, let me know in your application so I can create them. I'll only allow 3 characters to have this option to keep the town feeling abandoned.

-When you arrive you'll find a map, which i'll post in the OOC. It will show you everywhere you can explore in the town. Each building has a certain amount of items (usually a specific amount of food, a certain weapon type, an item needed for a puzzle later on, and some miscellaneous objects that you can get creative with.) Once they're gone, they're gone forever (unless a character dies and you loot them off their body), so use them wisely.

-There are monsters lurking in the darkness, as well as a few stronger and more menacing ones that stand between you and better items/story progression. Average monsters can be fought off and run from, but you'll need to get more creative with the boss creatures.

-There will also be puzzles and riddles occasionally required to advance through the story.

-This game will be fairly fast paced. Post as long or as short as you want, but each post must either respond to another character, advance the story, or accomplish something, just so we don't end up going in circles. If you're not sure what to do, pm me or ask in the OOC for a hint or clue.

So, if there's enough interest in this, I'll get a blank CS, OOC, and Map up and running. : )

I'd be tempted to make a character if this was a bit more active or had more players attached.
Playing Miss Marple might be a bit of a challenge but definitely doable! I love having a couple older adventurer or sleuth types in games like this. She can keep the younger members in their place. haha.

I'll wait to see what other types people want to play before I narrow down my choices, but I'll have and older distinguished male and a younger ambitious female to round things out either way. : )

Edit:

Here's a short list of some characters if you're stuck on ideas.

Dorian Gray
Dracula
Jonathan Harker
Dr. Jekyll/Mr. Hyde
Victor Frankenstein
Erik (Phantom of the Opera)

Atticus Finch
Jean Valjean
The Invisible Man

Female=
Mina Murray
Christine (Phantom of the Opera)
Jane Eyre
Irene Adler
Scarlett O’Hara
Lizzie Bennett
Nancy Drew
Anne Shirley
Jo March

As long as the character comes from classic literature that can be adapted to the 1940's will work.
It's been a while since I did an rp here (back when the old site was still up), so I figure it's about time to get back in the swing of things.

I really like the idea of all these classic literary characters dealing with supernatural mysteries. There are so many to choose from, but putting them in a Victorian setting is pretty standard and a little too expected for my tastes. So, what's another setting that goes well with noir mysteries and over the top pulp fiction? The 1940's seems like a perfect fit.

Expect large scale adventures in airships to exotic destinations in search of the supernatural and horrific. Whether your motives are wealth, fame, revenge, love or even scientific curiosity, you'll be lucky to get out alive. Things will be equal parts camp and horror so bring your best one-liners and holy water.
I'm thinking of making a forum for this rp but if I don't get enough interest I will adapt it to a thread here on rpguild, so here is an interest check for that. : )

Setting: NYC, 2014
School: Empire University of Sorcery and Witchcraft
Cannon: OC
Plot: The world is on the brink of a new war, and it starts in New York City. An anarchist group of wizards has made their presence known to muggles through a series of assassinations. With major world leaders gone, chaos and fear runs wild. A new witch hunt has begun, and no one is escaping unscathed.

In the midst of the pandemonium sits Empire University. The students are currently safe and hidden within its walls but once off campus they take their lives in their own hands. Some areas of NY are controlled by the wizarding community and are safe, but other boroughs could lead to your death.

Officially, anyone practicing magic in public or rumored to be a wizard is sent to a special camp on the outskirts of the city, stripped of their wands and basic human rights while heavily monitored. Though, unofficially, a wizard is more likely to be 'taken care of' by a vigilant mob of angry and frightened muggles before the night is over.

Characters:

-Students: The tension between purebloods and mudbloods has never been higher. With both groups being in danger in this wizard/muggle war, fights are bound to break out in the university itself.

-Staff: It's up to you to keep yourself and your students alive, which won't be an easy task. What are you willing to risk?

-Muggles: Not every muggle is against the wizarding world, but those that aren't are few and far between. Propaganda and fear have been a frighteningly effective weapon.

-Smugglers: These are muggles who smuggle wizards or wizarding products through the danger zones, or hide them in their homes during raids.

-The Dark Army: An elite anarchist group of wizards and witches responsible for revealing magic to the muggle world and several deaths along the way. Some wizards look up to them as protectors, others see them as traitors, but no one is pure evil, not even this group.

-The Military: The muggle military has several new and powerful tricks up its sleep to keep the wizarding population under control. Sometimes science is as powerful as magic.
