In the state of Maine there exists a town that is a little off the beaten path. It is almost hidden by the dense forest surrounding it, but once you see it, it is hard to forget. The town's claim to fame is it's marvelous architecture and artisans. Many of the buildings are made almost entirely out of wood, and feature engravings of brilliant quality. Because of this, the town is a semi-popular tourist spot, and has been named Oakenheim. Oakenheim is a relatively peaceful town, however, it has a negative stigma attached to it. Strange things happen there, things people have great difficulty explaining away. Items may shuffle mysteriously in people's homes, pets vanish, and in the local inn there is a room that no one dares enter. In spite of this, the locals stubbornly live there, and some claim it simply adds to the town's "Rustic Charm." Recently, certain events have become too extreme to ignore. While no one's lives have been at risk as of yet, more and more personal accounts of supernatural activity have been heard. Local authorities refuse to take any of these claims seriously, yet they continue to rise in frequency. This is where our story begins. People may not be able to deal with these supernatural events, but we are 'special.' One way or another, we are connected to the spiritual and macabre.

Basically, this will be a RP with a heavy focus on character development and solving various problems caused by supernatural entities. our characters will be a part of a club (which my character will invite them to) in high school. Now while the club is in the high school, this RP will not be about the goings on in said school. (trying to go though classes in a RP is a nightmare)
RULES 1. No power playing/godmoding. 2. Stay active, not posting for days without a proper excuse is unacceptable. 3. No Bullying people, and try not to start flame wars. 4. Please try to have decent grammar, it doesn't have to be perfect, but it does need to be easy to read.
TEMPLATE
Name: Gender: Age: Personality: Appearance: (An image is fine, but I'd like a description to go with it if you use one.) Tether: (A tether is the means through which an individual is able to perceive the supernatural. A few are born with enough spiritual sensitivity to gain a tether, these people are simply called naturals. Others gain a tether though different means, of which there are many. Being connected to an entity of some kind is the most common way normal people gain a tether.) Ability/Talents: (You may have one specific ability, and a maximum of three talents. Please keep in mind that our characters can't fire energy blasts or anything over the top like that, also I don't expect everyone to be a martial arts master. No sensory abilities either.) Recent history: (I don't want you to lay out your character's entire backstory here, save it for the RP.)

A codex is a good idea, though I doubt everyone would be inclined to add to it. You and I could take charge of updating it. As for people's CS's I won't force anyone to make a proper codex entry, however, if their character is tied to an entity they will need to briefly explain it regardless. As for the entries serving as plot devices, I think that's a possibility.
lol, how the hell did I not think of Twin Peaks when making this.
ha, there is a beach nearby that people are rather hesitant to go to.
Thank you for showing interest. Heh, I picked Maine because I wanted a familiar yet vaguely mysterious setting, and also because of all the horror authors associated with it.... and also because there's a lot of trees there lol. Oakenheim will be a rather out of the way town surrounded by a forest, and while I'm tempted to say it's similar to the towns in the Cthulhu mythos, things won't get quite so... maddening XD
Familiarity is nice. What about the rating for the roleplay? Are we to expect some violence here and there, perhaps able to romance characters in our spare time as we develop these characters? I have an idea for a boxer; development comes first of course, but I think you'd like him, even if this rp is not battle-centric. What kind of characters would you like to see?
Rating? I suppose it'll be a bit of a mature rp, though I don't want things to take on a dark tone. There will likely be some violence here and there, though again, they won't be the focus. Romance is a possibility. I'd like to see a diverse cast of personalities, maybe a few eccentric individuals. I'd also like to avoid having similar archtypes here.
*Rubs chin thoughtfully* Sounds like a very interesting concept and you had me the moment you mentioned Bakemonogatari. When you say that the gifted can perceive these supernatural events is it a case of people rationiising away the truth or more like in Grimm (if you know it) where only special people can see the supernatural entities in their true form and the rest of the world see's something else?
I'd say it's a bit of both, supernatural events may occur, and without having a proper explanation for it, people will make something up, like swamp gas, or solar flares or something lol. There will be some entities that normal people can see, however, most of them will be things that normal people simply cannot see nor sense.
Shit bro, I am so in. I tried a couple of months ago to run a literal Bakemonogatari RP. A few questions, though. What sort of mythos are we running off of? Urban myths, traditional myths, literary fantasy, any combination thereof? Are our characters merely able to perceive the supernatural (would-be "Specialists," in terms of our inspirational material,) or would we play as supernatural entities themselves as well (or merely those influenced by them)?
I'm Platinum excited there are fellow bakemonogatari fans here! Concerning the mythos, it'll be a mix of traditional myths and literary ones... maybe a few urban ones, we'll have to see. Our characters can either simply be sensitive to spiritual energies, or be people influenced in some way by an entity. If someone wants to use a fully fledged supernatural entity, I'd like them to run it by me first, since I don't want anyone to be too powerful. If anything, I'd prefer it if at least most of the RPers pick an entity to either represent their character, or take influence from.
Soooooooo... k. How much of this Bakemonogatari do we needs to know abouts? Cuz like... teh bunny watched like all of ohhh... never, that's why. U,U!!!
You don't need to know anything about it. I'm simply taking inspiration from the series.
I want to see how many people are interested before deciding on a concrete number, but for now I'll say one. I would much prefer a medium sized cast of people that posted regularly.
Our characters will be from the same school, and my character will be the one able to identify the others.
Right now, I have it so we are using high school aged characters, but this won't be a school focused RP. My character will send out invitations to the others that are 'gifted' and able to perceive the supernatural, and they will form a club dedicated to solving supernatural occurrences in the town of Oakenheim.
I've been thinking of making a modern RP set in a fictional town in Maine. I want it to have supernatural elements, but instead of this being a story full of battles with the fate of the world at stake, I'd like the conflicts to be smaller in scale and far more subtle. To get a good idea of what I mean, I'm taking inspiration from the series Bakemonogatari. (if you know it) So, a supernatural RP with a focus on character development, is anyone interested? Is there anything you'd like to see in it?
