Sprout did a great job battling the Durant Martin picked out. They didn't have enough power to hurt it, but Leech Seed didn't care about that. While Sprout did a great job avoiding it's attacks, Martin took note of how hard it was hitting. He was almost worried what would happen if it connected. His concerns didn't last too long, as Durant was weakened as planned by outlasting it. With a toss of his Pokeball, he was relieved. That makes the fifth Pokemon to his team, and a tough one at that. While a bad choice to use here with all the Heatsmor and other Durants, it was another Bug Pokemon. Something Martin was more than happy to add.

"Good to see you woke up, Sprout. So welcome to a really huge cave. Hope you aren't afraid of the dark." At this mention, Sprout looked around and came to the same understanding. He also couldn't see a thing. It was a good thing Martin was having trouble seeing down here, cause he missed Sprout silently laughing at him. What human willingly goes to a place with no idea of what to do or where to go? It didn't stay silent for long, as Sprout was just laughing as the idea just got funnier and funnier. "Okay, I get it. You can stop now. It is a great idea to explore a dark cave all by myself who knows how far underground. I don't need to explain this to you. Just come back, me and Nincada can handle exploring the dark."

With a flash of red light, Sprout was called back. He didn't ask for a Pokemon to sass him, but not much to do about it. He has two new Pokemon caught since he left, and still no chance to check them out or say hi. Just the downside of a no stops trip to see how far he can go.

"Okay Nincada, it's time to move on. I've thought about it, and I'd rather take the path up ahead that went towards water. The other choices just sounds like a bad idea. I got some Potions easily, but it might be going quickly if I make bad choices. Think you can take me that way?" Nincada sat still, not giving any response. Martin still wondered why was Nincada so silent all the time. Nincada finally looked in a direction and started walking. "Okay, I guess it's this way then. Don't leave me behind this time, please."

Action: Go back to the splitting path, and take the left turn. Towards the sounds of water.

More walking the dark caves, the only light being of nearby Heatsmor going after Durants. This place had a charm to it in an odd way. No one came down here, so it was just Pokemon. Martin had the bad fortune of thinking too much before nearly tripping over a rock. He looked back at what caused it, only to realize it wasn't an average rock. He found an Everstone, so it was good luck? He pocketed it in his bag, almost getting left behind by Nincada, who didn't notice him stopping. Martin picked up the pace to catch up, finally noticing Nincada stopped. "Hey, almost lost you. Why did you stop now?"

Up ahead was a crossroads, three different routes to pick from. The left sounded like more water, and the right was cold air. The middle route sounded like trouble out of Martin's ability right now. He wanted a Heatsmor, but they traveled in groups, which made it a lot tougher. Of course, hunting Durants by flushing them out did make a lot of chances to catch a Durant in the confusion. They both looked like good choices.

Actually, Martin had an Everstone. "Hey Nincada, I need you to hold something real quick." So he gave the stone to Nincada to hold onto. The bug wasn't sure what it was, but took it anyways. Martin knew his bug types, and Nincada had an interestng evolution that he didn't want to miss happening. So why take a chance when he happened to have the stone with him?

Back to thinking, and Martin had it. Durants are tough Pokemon to take out, but the local Heatsmor loved to attack these things. All he needed was to attack one that got separated from the others, and he could take it down with Sprout. Leech Seed, and Growl until it was weak enough. Okay, time to put this in action. Turning around, Martin was off to catch a Durant. Hopefully Sprout had a good rest from the last fight by now. "Okay Nincada, let's catch a Pokemon before heading on." He wanted a Heatsmor, but should see if it was possible later. Chances were great to get a Durant, and he might find a better chance later for Heatsmor. He called out Sprout to see if he was still sleeping just in case. If he was, Martin could wait before moving.

Action: Battle a lower level Durant to catch it with Bulbasaur, using Leech Seed, then Growl until it was time to use a Pokeball.
@PlatinumSkink There is a fine line between brave and foolish. I choose to abandon this fight. Instead, I will claim this Pokemon after I get a stronger team.

The plan was going to go well, but Martin seemed to have missed something important. He is not as strong as his opponent. The body language on Heatsmor, combined with not even bothering to attack. Yeah, this was a good way of guessing the trip was exploration. "Well, that did not work... Sorry for trying to catch you?" Martin rubbed the back of his head, taking a step back. He needed a couple Pokemon to get back out of here, and not enough items to attempt this. "Goldeen. We're done here, return."

Martin called back Goldeen, showing he wasn't intending a fight at this point. "Thanks for dealing with those Durants, I'll let you get back to that." Martin waited to see if Heatsmor would stand down from fighting, which was looking pretty good.

Assuming Heatsmor didn't intend to keep fighting, Martin would call out Nincada again, and keep exploring the Vast Underground.

Down into the darkness Martin kept going. He was wrong about being able to spot a thing along the way relying on his Pokedex at best to glimpse anything. The occasional noise of Nincada was what he had to focus on to avoid getting separated. Take a turn here, head downward, more rocks and silence. He was confident Nincada could lead the way, even if he hadn't a clue what was happening. Eventually, Martin heard something. It was coming from the walls, and sounded numerous. There wasn't much time to wonder what was happening, as a blast of fire illuminated the area.

Pulling out his Pokedex, Martin had to make use of the sudden burst of light. The Pokedex lit up, scanning the things in front of him. Okay, so it was Durant and Heatsmor... Two Pokemon who fight each other, a lot. The Durant were fleeing past him, and Heatsmor was busy with the few Durant staying behind to slow him down. A classic stalemate he could use to catch one of them. If he could catch that Heatsmor, then it would be a lot easier to navigate this area, and he'd have something to keep the Durant at bay. Time to swap out Pokemon and take down Heatsmor.

"Nincada, time to come back. Goldeen, I need you right now." With two flashes of light, Martin changed out his team. He figured he'd have time since both of them looked busy for a few seconds. "Start this off with Water Sport, then get ready for Horn Attack on Heatsmor." Martin's mind was going a bit fast, and he knew what he wanted.

Goldeen came out to the disappointment of dry rocks. She almost looked offended at not being in water. So her irritation was pointed at Heatsmor, an easy target to pick on. The sight of fleeing Durants didn't mean anything to her. She was sending water in the air to deal with any fire that would be used against her.

The plan is to use the Durants as a distraction while Martin has Goldeen set up the battle with Water Sport. When the fire threat is minimized, Goldeen can take on Heatsmor with Horn attack. Once the enemy is weak enough, catch it with a Pokeball. In the confusion, the Durants should be running away, leaving it just the two of them.

Action: Battle/Catch Heatsmor.
@PlatinumSkink So I know you said quick catch is possible, but how do I exactly do that? Do I just say what I'm going to do in terms of moves and just say quick catch?

Martin's journey through the water was a lot of blurry shapes and lights. He was fully letting Goldeen lead the way, as he silently counted how long the trip was taking. His Pokedex helped him out with what the thing in front of him was. So there were Chinchous down here, good to note later. The rest of the water trip was a blur, until he got to the surface of water. A deep breath of fresh air, and he left the water, soaking from the long time spent in the water. After a small fit of coughing, he looked back at Goldeen.

"You were right, it was possible. Pretty dark here, so it looks like I'm not done asking for help. Take a rest, Goldeen. Gonna need you to get back out of here. If it gets bad enough, I have an Escape Rope." Digging around his pockets, he found his Pokeball for Goldeen and called her back. Goldeen gave a jump out of the water as she disappeared into the red light. He then looked around, and called out Nincada, a second flash of light, leaving the bug looking around.

"Alright, Nincada. So, we're in a cave deep underground, and it's dark. So, I'm gonna need your help getting around here. Can you handle that?" Nincada stood still, trying to figure out what was happening, then looked back. He gave a small nod. "Great, so let's see what's down here. I'll keep track of how to get back here." Exploring tip, always keep track of where you started, so you have something as a landmark. Low light/no light wasn't a problem for Nincada. Martin was hoping he could still see after adjusting to the low light around here. Looks like things are lining up quite well for Martin to keep up this exploration.

Action: Explore the Vast Underground with Nincada leading the way.
@PlatinumSkink So it turns out that I have enough of a team that I can keep going on without too many problems. So, I plan on doing exactly that. Blind Pokemon and an Escape Rope? Yeah, I'm not stopping here.

Martin had nothing to do but wait while Goldeen was gone. So he looked around the area, leaving the Slowpoke alone. He was pretty sure he could put a rock on one of them and it would take a few moments to notice, but decided against it. He was up to four Pokemon now, and was hopeful to go diving through water, as he was already getting used to trudging through water in these caves. It took a few minutes before Goldeen had come back up from the water with martin standing up again. He walked over to Goldeen, taking a seat to talk to her.

"What do you think, is there anything worth diving for?" Goldeen gave a small jump in the air, looking quite pleased with herself. Hitting the water, she splashed Martin.

"I'll take that as a yes. Do you think you could take me?" Goldeen stood still for a few seconds, was she thinking about it? Eventually, she swam in circles, diving down and coming back up.

"Cool, I trust you won't drown me. At least at that point, splashing me won't matter anymore. I'm pretty sure I can do a minute at the most for holding my breath, you sure it's possible?" Goldeen looked pretty optimistic, almost beckoning him to try it. "This is gonna be a great story, even if it goes wrong. Alright, I'm treating for a good meal after this. Come on, Goldeen. We got a place to explore."

Martin was never one to back down from exploring, even when it was unknown what was waiting. All he needed was to hear it's possible, and the rest didn't matter. That's how he got to Pureplain, and that's how became a trainer. He climbed onto Goldeen, quite awkwardly. Slipping off her back, he went into the water. Goldeen dove under him and lifted him the surface, mocking him with feigned struggle to stay afloat. "Okay, laugh it up. This is my first time trying to ride a Pokemon. I'll just hold onto you, so take me down there."

Action: Use Goldeen to dive into the water and go down the underwater cave.

It was a fight. Martin wanted to say a serious fight, but as expected from a Slowpoke, it was a game of waiting. Sprout was falling alseep, and he caught one. The part that had him questioning was that this Slowpoke already had a King's Rock on it. Now he had two of them. Okay, so he could try and find the other one on the list that this was for, or consider for selling. Or, he could give that girl one back. "Sprout, you did a good job out there, take a nap and come back." Sprout didn't bother looking back, as his eyes were fighting to stay open as the flash of red light called him back.

That fight was easy, and there was no work to find the Pokemon. Was it due to good planning, or good luck? Checking his list of Pokemon, he still had the pond to look at. Nincada was to clear Zubats, while Sprout and Slowpoke were out. So he had one more to use for this choice. "Goldeen, come on out." With a flash of light, Goldeen appeared in the air, diving into the water. After a few seconds, she came back up. "Goldeen, I need you to check out the water below you. Check if there's any underwater areas with air to breath down there and come back. I'm feeling lucky for diving." With that command, Goldeen went down into the water. Martin took a few steps back and sat down. The Slowpokes here didn't even notice the fight. What a Pokemon to live life in the slow lane. The one he caught already had the King's Rock, maybe it was looking to evolve?

Action: Use Goldeen to check out the Underwater Caves.
