Name: Daniela Dossantos
Age: 21
Gender: Female
Appearance: It'd be hard to tell at a glance, but Daniela is a woman who could make it to the covers of magazines if she applied herself to it. Or, rather, if she didn't actively avoid being in the forefront of any situations. Her choice of outfits reflect this rather well: often drifting towards baggy sweaters and skirts that look as unfashionable as possible without being garish. As average and simple as she can look, and avoiding as many eyes as possible despite her very healthy figure. She's gone to the point of regularly dying her hair to a more plain brown over her natural, golden blond, as expensive and time consuming as it is. She'd wear colored contacts to hide those big, deep blue eyes of hers, but this had the opposite effect. Thus, she returned to wearing regular contact lenses.
Daniela stands at a respectable 173 centimeters and weighs no much more than 64 kilograms, a couple of which she'd admit come from a lack of physical activity. Coupled with a complexion slightly lighter than fair and some frequent bags under her eyes, and it's easy to infer that she doesn't see much sunlight when at the privacy of her home. She hardly ever wears any jewelry other than a necklace every so often, and hardly ever accessorizes. Yet, despite this and the fact she doesn't wear makeup, she hardly ever looks displeasing to the passing eye.
Upon entering the Shadow Realm, Daniela's physical appearance changes rather drastically. Her hair grows longer and turns into an ashen white, while her eyes go from blue to crimson. Her complexion lightens to a deadly pale and, more strikingly, a burnt-like brown spreads all over the left side of her body, the skin feeling slightly leathery to the touch yet otherwise remaining the same. Her outfit consists of a worn down dress underneath a large, tattered shawl, both of a dark, dirty gray. Here is a reference to how her body changes. Not of the dress, though.
Personality: Mousy and soft-spoken, Daniela is a person who takes great cares to avoid getting on anyone's bad side; someone who's very adverse to conflict and who takes the words thrown her way to heart. She's responsible and reliable on her work, and often goes out of her way both to help her coworkers and to finish her own work even if it means overtime, asking little in return. When she feels she's out of sight, however, she laments the fact that she's got to do these things out of a sense of duty to be "truly altruistic", and that she'd rather be back in her house if she could help it. She's quick to regret yet she's also prideful, often politely rejecting the invitations of others to hang out as she feels these come out of pity towards her and that they don't want her around.
Daniela also has a tendency to try and shoulder the blame of others then seeking to brush it away not too long afterwards just to get things done and over with, silently spiting these other people for not being good enough. In a similar vein, she often blames herself for not taking into account eventualities that she'd otherwise not know of, telling herself that she should've known and then strives to better herself onwards. She is relentless in constantly bettering herself towards a nigh-unachievable high standard, and hopes that the people around her do the same, yet doesn't have it in her to call them out from what she believes is a mistake.
Regarding her tastes, she often strays away from anything controversial or that'll spark up a debate and tailors her own likes and dislikes accordingly. She keeps up with one or two pieces of media of various trends to have some knowledge of the matter, but doesn't really have anything she's passionate about. Ultimately, she steers towards things she has already watched or listened to, although she's secretly fallen into the rabbit hole of virtual idols as of late.
Backstory: Daniela Dossantos comes from an ordinary, low-middle class family of Bogotá. Both of her parents, alongside her maternal aunts, were artisans of some kind and they earned their living by selling their works, most of them being trays, vases and dishes made with clay and finely decorated. Naturally, this made it hard for two parents to pay the expenses of four children, of which Daniela is the second youngest, and so her and her siblings were quickly put to work into learning how to contribute and earn some money for themselves. Her elder brother and sister were quick to prove their worth and earn her parent's praise, the former with her magnetic personality bringing in more clients and the latter having a natural skill when it came to handling clay, while her younger sister was often by her mother and grandmother's side helping with housework. It didn't take long for comparisons to be made between her and her siblings. Comparisons, and expectations.
As much as she tried, though, she couldn't match either of the three in any way. She was a naturally good looking young woman, but her brother's pull and finesse as a salesman often left her in the sidelines and she found herself cut off way too often. She had a good hand when working with clay and painting it, but her products were bland in comparison to her sister's. She tried her hand at cooking and helping with the house, but more often than not she misplaced things or didn't put enough effort in the eyes of her strict grandmother. Not putting enough effort became a recurring stigma for her, who didn't seem to manage to garner the praise of her family no matter how hard she tried. Even when she applied for a scholarship in high school, a highly coveted economical support for those who applied to it, its limited nature made it so she didn't end up earning it despite studying for weeks at a time. The only time she garnered some sort of special attention was in PE classes during her teenage years: being an early bloomer with blond hair led to both unwanted attention from the boys and a modicum of jealousy from the girls and thus she ended up missing most of the classes.
Thankfully, Daniela finished highschool without incident and was able to land a job relatively quickly at a multinational company thanks to her fluency in the English language. This let her seek independence away from the family she never felt truly loved her and settle further downtown within Bogotá, where she sought to start and attain a new life much like that which she saw on various series she pirated on the internet. She subscribed to various services she previously thought she wouldn't be able to get with her recently acquired debit card, she saved up a couple of salaries to get what was at the moment the latest O-phone available for someone within her economic range, and she even started opening up to her hairdresser, who spent countless hours and sessions tending to this young lady who sought to go from gold to wooden brown. But, at the end of the day, things might not have changed at all: Even at work, she was just another faceless employee and she found herself lacking any true support from anyone in her floor. She never maintained a social profile outside of a necessity to stay in touch and communicated with her peers, and so most of them hardly knew anything about her. Every now and then, she'd find herself making the mistakes she thought she would never make again and had to bite her lip as her superiors chastized her for it, then wondered why weren't the others facing the same sort of beratings as she did. Perhaps she should just try harder. Perhaps there was something that they could do that she couldn't. And that meant that she had to put more effort to be like them.
Skills: Despite denying any claims of such, Daniela's fairly skilled with her hands and has a steady pulse, something that one can infer from a very neat and pretty calligraphy. She's good enough with all sorts of handiwork, having experience working with clay and similar substances, sewing and cooking. She's fairly tidy, and has a bit of a sense on how to organize things; schedules, paperwork and even interiors in a way.
It's worth noting that she's not very athletic, having a below average performance in about all physical activities.
Abilities: Almost all of Daniela's abilities fall have Water involved in them in either a physical or magical manner, and of them a good portion has magical Darkness within them.
- Futility (Water/Dark) - Daniela can create a viscuous substance similar to that of her Shadow from any spot that her left side is in contact with, sharing that oil-like tone and contexture. It spreads in accordance to her wishes, moving at a speed slightly slower than a running adult man, and it's fairly cold, heavy and hard to remove. Through it, Daniela can slowly drain the forces and energy from other beings to build up more Futility. If one looks closely, it'd seem as if arms and legs momentarily sprout from it to drag it forwards, collapsing into more of this ooze almost as soon as it emerges. This substance, while not combustible, is very subseptible to Fire and Light. The amount that Daniela can produce by herself at the start isn't great, barely able to fill a regular bucket.
- Rejection (Water/Dark) - On a similar vein, Daniela can quickly sprout a mass of limbs made of Futility that'd quickly freeze into a solid shape. More often than not, this is used to form snaring traps to keep the enemy in place or impromptu walls to block sudden attacks. Much like the substance it's made of, it fares poorly verses Fire and Light.
- Opression (Water/Dark) - A large leech made of Futility is formed, which is then lobbed at a target. If it strikes skin, or whatever might pass as the unprotected surface of the main body of its target, it'll latch on to it and start to feed upon its essence, growing larger and heavier until eventually weighs the victim down. As it grows, hands and arms start to sprout from it, all which try to grasp and pull from whatever there is near them with a meager amount of strength. If it has nothing to feed from, it'd try to find nourishment or return to Daniela's Futility, whichever is the closest.
Arcana: Death. Termination, rebirth, change, cyclicity. Daniela sought to cut all ties with her past and start anew in a new place in order to attain a new life, yet she's also slowly falling back into the same mindset she held before moving out. More than anything, she seeks to better herself and attain that ideal, utopic self she feels she'll never reach.
Shadow: Daniela's shadow manifests as that unattainable, ideal self she works towards but never feels worthy of achieving: she'd have her hair undyed and left to cascade over her shoulders whilst walking in a much confident manner. Dressing stylishly and high-class if a bit antiquately, using both scarce make up and accessories to accent her natural good looks. A woman successful and envied by all, who people seek to please and get in the good graces of. A regal woman whose words would always be heeded by her king.
Its monstruous form is akin to that of a large, floating jellyfish, its body made of a trasluscent ooze with a dull, rainbow sheen like that of a spilled car oil. Within its hood one can spot a malformed child cowering in the center as several arms constantly sprout, grow, shift and ultimately break as they reach out, falling down and losing shape on their way to the ground until they're nothing but a disgusting slime that gathers underneath the frilly tendrils that reach down to the floor, which gather this substance and draw it back up through their length.
Persona: Hiruko, the limbless infant Ebisu cast away into the sea in a boat of reeds. Rejected by their parents because of their inadequacy, this young and helpless child is due to undergo many trials and tribulations in order to become the mirthful god of fortune, yet this youth hasn't reached that point yet.
Hiruko takes the shape of a leech about the size of an adult man, whose body segments seem to be made of sullied, braided reeds. Within its mouth one can spot the face of a baby with its eyes and mouth closed as if it were peacefully sleeping, only waking up when distressed. Hiruko's main strength is expelling large amounts of Futility from its body, which pours out of the small gaps between the braided reeds, which can be used by Daniela in encounters. However, if endangered in any way, then Hiruko will often encase itself in a case of frozen and hardened Futility. It's very resistant towards Water and Dark typed attacks and weak towards Light and Fire, and while encased in its frozen Futility it gains an increased resistance towards most physical forms of attack in exchange of its offensive capabilities.
