The world has changed...

18 months ago a large mutant attack was waged against the UN Headquarters after it was rumored that they may be testing a new, more lethal, variety of sentinels.

When the news leaked many of the younger X-Men were eager to strike to prevent the sentinels from seeing the light of day. Professor Xavier disapproved of this, and forbid any X-Men from participating in any kind of organized strike, though many of the younger mutants completely disobeyed this, launching an offensive against the UN Headquarters to destroy the Sentinels. What they didn't know, however, was that the brotherhood organized a strike at the same time, targeting the Residency for many of the prominent UN Delegates.

The X-Men were able to successfully destroy the Sentinels, though they were caught on camera doing so. However, the brotherhood was also successful, assassinating several key members of the UN, as well as guests to the UN including the President of the United States, the Queen of England, the Prime Minister of Germany, as well as multiple other delegates and heads of state.

In the aftermath of the attacks, there was absolute chaos. Fingers were pointed in every direction imaginable, until footage of the X-Men breaking into the UN Headquarters surfaced, and all of those fingers pointed directly to Xavier Mansion. Swiftly, and with the support of nearly the entire UN, Marshall Law was declared in the United States, and the army was deployed to Xavier Mansion, demanding the immediate surrender of Xavier, and attempting to arrest all of the X-Men caught on tape.

When the arrests took place, many of the prominent X-Men were away from the mansion on other business, leaving the mansion terribly undefended. With the new Sentinels that survived the attack on the UN, these new Sentinels able to absorb mutant abilities, as well as temporarily disable telepaths through this ability. Though Xavier attempted to negotiate with the army officials, some of the younger X-Men attempted to push the troops back, sparking a firefight in which many of the prominent X-Men were presumed dead, and the mansion itslef destroyed. After the attacks, the remaining X-Men either dispersed, or went underground together. Beast retired, deciding to go into politics in a desperate attempt to find some sympathy in the law for mutants. Wolverine walked away from the team entirely, going somewhere into the Middle East, and, in a surprising twist, Magneto - overcome by guilt for the brotherhood's part in causing Charles' death- opted to lead the remaining band of X-Men, deemed Team X.

Using an abandoned S.H.I.E.L.D. facility, lost when the agency had to cut its resources back following the Hydra Reveal, Magneto has begun building a team of mutants that can help them regain their strength. While he and the other popular mutants cannot venture out into the outside world much, due to the prevalence of cameras that use facial recognition for known criminals, terrorists, and X-Men, these mutants can. The mutant Caliban has been working alongside Kurt Wagoner, Nightcrawler, to find and bring new mutants to the bunker.

Scott Summers tried to stay with the remaining X-Men, but training, and being around their old friends always reminded him of his dead wife and unborn child, and he eventually left, moving to the Gulf of Mexico to drink his life away.

Erik Lehnsherr looked older than he ever had in his life. His once blonde hair was running more grey than blonde, and his eyes were sunken in, though not lacking in the passion that they had always held during his many years. He rested a hand on Havok's shoulder, turning to look the younger, clearly grieving mutant in the eyes and giving him a reassuring smile that could have been meant to help either of them,

"The new recruits will get here safely Alex.. it'll be alright."

Havok pursed his lips "It's not really that I'm worried about sir.. I'm just still struggling to get on without Scott here. How are you? You haven't seemed to take it as hard as the rest of us."

The older man gave a sad smile at Havok before turning his eyes towards the incoming transport that should be carrying some of the recruits,

"I'm a holocaust survivor Alex... I saw my parents and everyone I loved gassed at a young age. I mourn Charles more than anyone in this room will ever know, as I do Raven, but I understand the greater purpose."

As his statement finished, the ramp on the transport that was carrying the mutants to the training facility. The bunker itself was large enough to necessitate these. The mutants would have been recruited by Kurt, before being teleported to a holding area in the bunker, to be then transported via large hovering personnel carriers.

Ben stands at 6'2, and is a tall and thin, with average muscling on his arms. He isn't exceptionally strong, or visually striking, as most of his strength is gained by his mutation. He usually keeps a small amount of facial hair at any given point, and his hair fairly short. Ben has hazel colored eyes, though he's always hated them and would rather have blue ones.

Mutation:

'"Pulse" has shown the exceptional ability to absorb multiple types of energy, primarily electrical, and retain it in his cells like a capacitor or battery. This ability has not been thoroughly tested, due to concern about cellular degradation due to excess exposure to current. Presently "the patient appears to be capable absorb roughly a car's battery worth of energy, with potential for more. Additionally, the patient is able to discharge the energy which he absorbs, sometimes at a greater strength than it was when he absorbed it. Presently energy can be discharged in a stream, or via touch. We are unsure whether there is potential for more methods of discharge at this point. This patient, "pulse", seems to thrive when a certain amount of energy is constantly in his body. Cellular deterioration, similar to dehydration or starvation have been observed when this minimum energy level is depleted, or a maximum energy level is surpassed. Though, with a certain 'exercise' like regimen, "pulse" seems to be capable of increasing the upper end of his retention. Observations are still trying to put an empirical number to these levels. It is believed by my team that "Pulse" very likely will continue to evolve this ability to absorb additional types of energy, potentially including kinetic, flame, and life energy. When Ben becomes overcharged, there is the potential for an explosion like occurrence, while his body vents the excess energy to maintain homeostasis.

'Presently my team refers to the patient's powers as electromagnetic. He seems to harness magnetic fields through mental manipulation, and can manipulate any metal, or metallic object. Currently the patient's magnetic abilities seem to be correlated to the amount of energy he has absorbed, though he does seem to exhibit a base level of magnetic ability despite energy absorption. His abilities allow him to sustain limited amounts of flight, and he can stop up to half a dozen bullets in air. Additionally, my team believes his powers may evolve to a point to where they are relatively independent from his absorbed energy."

Personality:

Ben in his personality is a very walled veiled person. He usually carries a sarcastic aggressive attitude with him wherever he goes. This sarcasm and aggression that lies on the outside of his personality though, is just a defense mechanism. He developed the personality that he displays to the rest of the world. A cold, callused individual with little care for anyone or anything. He keeps most things pent up, which causes him to have a smoldering hate and short temper most of the time. Having been dealt massive emotional blows as a child Ben is rather tender and sensitive on the inside. He's constantly trying to find something to fill the void his parents left. Ben suffers from clinically diagnosed mild-moderate depression. Due to his gruff exterior he has difficulty getting close to people, and when he does his short temper and self destructive tendencies often push them away. This feeds his depression, which plagues him when he isn't working.

Ben has developed a rather bad drinking habit, and could be classified as an alcoholic. The drinking problem, like many of his other personality flaws, stems directly from the loss of his parents. He has difficulty getting close to anyone in his life, due to the aforementioned issues, which just goes to feed this alcoholism.

History:
Ben was adopted into a broken family in the south bronx. His parents fought through most of his childhood, leaving Ben bitter and alone at home, and making it hard for him to make friends at school. When he was in elementary school his parents' fighting became worse. When he tried to split it up Ben's father smacked him and sent him to his room. In his room he fell into a tantrum of pain and sorrow, which was when his mutations first expressed themselves. Cars parked along the road began to wobble, setting off their alarms. Computers in his house, and the ones around his house began to flicker and then fail all together, and every metal object in the house began to hover, or all together fly towards his room, getting stuck against whatever wall obstructed their path. Windows across the house shattered as the sills themselves tried to flex and snap out of their fixtures, fracturing the glass in the process.

The phenomenon was enough to shake his father from his fit of rage, and he went looking for the source, the wailing boy in his upstairs. His father, having watched the news, knew very well that what he was experiencing was a mutant. Despite cries by his mother and protests, his father kicked Ben out at age 8 to fend for himself.

Ben spent the next eight years fending for himself. He spent several months on and off in Xavier's School, though he couldn't fit in and make friends and would frequently run away. It was during these eight years he discovered his energy power, and began to harness his powers more and more. It was during a petty theft he was making on an ATM, ripping the metal away and taking the cash. A police officer caught him in the act and attempted to tase him when he wouldn't stop. The officer fired his taser, but to no avail. The wires hooked into him but the electricity was absorbed. It even caught Ben off guard, but having spent time around other mutants, he understood immediately it was another mutation. Ben ripped the wires out and ran away, unsure of the extent of his mutations.

For the next while Ben began to attempt to make a life for himself. He indulged in petty crime less, while getting more education and trying to find a good job. At age 21 he was fairly stable. He had a good relationship, and a decent job while studying in school. When the attack on the UN happened. His friends, and even his girlfriend, began looking at him in a new light. Eventually she dumped him, and his friends began disappearing one by one. He uprooted, leaving where he had lived for fear of his life and from legal action against him for being a mutant, going as far as to move out of country, finding himself in Berlin currently.
