NameJack Underwood
Age20 (Birthday: July 15)
GenderHe/They
AppearanceJack stands at 5'6". His hair is short and brown, sheared save for a bit of his bangs that are kept swept to one side. The very tips of his hair show old, faded blonde coloration; he hasn't re-colored his hair in quite some time. His eyes are a mottled cognac, with a gleeful mischief in his expression that never seems to reach them. Freckles are very faintly visible on his boyish face, dotted around his nose and forehead.
He typically wears a sleeveless hoodie and baggy workout pants, as well as a black undershirt and worn, blue running shoes. While his outfit may sometimes change based on what is available, he always has a string necklace with three orange and red gemstones around his neck--given to him by his grandmother before she passed.
Digivolution Line + Attacks: Ghost: Rabimon - Standing at roughly 2 feet and a handful of inches tall, Rabimon is plump and rounded in most features. Their fur remains dense and their limbs thick, to better stand the cold. Fur around their hands, feet, and ear-tips have adopted the same near-black brown as their face, while their stomach fur has lightened to a cream color. Always wrapped around their neck is an over-large orange scarf, striped in brown and dragging along behind them.
- Petit Snow- Fires a stream of chilling winds and snow, with a chance to freeze small targets
- Snowblind- Emits a haze of frigid fog that envelopes an area, obscuring vision and dealing freezing damage to those within
Human Spirit: Floemon - Floemon is tall and lanky, with elongated limbs and exaggerated paws. They stand at 8 feet, their slim frame built for speed. Floemon does not walk. They skate wherever they go, paths of ice forming under their paws and allowing them to glide along any terrain at high speeds. Their facial fur is almost entirely a near-black brown, rendering their nose and mouth all but invisible. Floemon’s ears are the same color, hanging down past their shoulders.
They wear an orange leotard with rich brown stripes on it to add visuality to their graceful movements. Sleek silver blades sprout from the bottoms of their feet; Floemon uses these to skate and attack.
- Frozen Axel- With a spinning axel jump, Floemon launches a spiraling wave of frosty energy at their foe.
- Crosscut- Floemon gathers speed and delivers a spinning kick, made deadly with their paw-blades.
- Arctic Lunge- Floemon springs forward, frigid energy rushing from their core to their outstretched hand and thrusting outwards into an icy spire.
Beast Spirit: Tundrimon - Wildly contrasting the Human Spirit form, the Beast Spirit is exceptionally small and fluffy at about the same size as the average collie. Its fur is dense and colored the same near-black brown as its Human Spirit form. Around its front right paw is a vividly orange and brown bandana, wrapped tightly. Its demure and invitingly soft appearance is mostly for show--this digimon is as harsh and unforgiving as the environment it’s named for.
- Permafrost- Toughens up the user to reduce incoming damage.
- Glacier Crush- Coats the feet with a layer of thick ice before striking, dealing devastating damage.
- FrostBite - Tundrimon exposes their teeth--horrifically sharp and unnervingly numerous--and lunges forward for a crippling bite attack.
Double Spirit: Rimemon - Rimemon is an intimidating presence, their cloaked figure towering at nearly twelve feet. Their fur is an inky black void with crystalline ice shapes making up their inner ear lining. The only visible feature on their face is their eyes, stark white. They speak telepathically, projecting their voice into the air around them.
The robe is a thick, heavy material dyed a dark, frigid gray-blue and embossed with frost and snow at the hem. Around the shoulders of the cloak is bright orange embroidery, in simple zig-zagging shapes. There is no body inside the high-necked cloak, only a cold blackness. A winter night sky, devoid of warmth or light. The very air around this massive digimon is chilled, vegetation flash-freezing as they pass.
- Black Ice Void- Rimemon’s cloak opens, unleashing a wave of ice that coats an area and drops its temperature drastically, rendering creatures caught within immobile and frozen.
- Absolute Zero- A creature is enveloped in Rimemon’s void cloak and imprisoned in a lightless environment devoid of air or warmth. Flash-freezes creatures caught inside with the chance to shatter.
- Calving Strike- Rimemon spreads their cloak, massive chunks of glacial ice erupting from within and bombarding the target.
Special Equipment, Gear, or Skills: Jack is Weirdly Flexible. He’s quite good at contorting his body to shimmy in and out of small or oddly shaped spaces.
Backstory: Jack has spent most of his life alone. With both of his parents working long hours and traveling often, for long periods of time, he was raised by his grandmother. She was never one for visitors, leaving Jack to become accustomed to a much more online presence, socially. He found joy in online games; fantastical worlds where he could explore, collect, craft, and combat creatures to his liking.
One night, a massive creature, something Jack couldn’t even describe--something no one would believe him about anyway--was fighting near their home. It took out half the living room when it collapsed after being struck with something. All Jack had seen was a flash of light. Jack was lucky, he had managed to avoid the brunt of the damage due to his room’s location inside the house. His grandmother in the living room had been much less lucky. They needed to rush her to the hospital. Jack began to see the nurse more often than his grandmother. He didn’t allow himself to dwell on it, burying his concern under relentless optimism. It was fine, it was minor, they were taking great care of her, he didn’t need to worry. He just needed to focus on helping get the house repaired so that when his grandmother returned, everything would just go back to normal. It wasn’t until the nurse beckoned him into his grandmother’s room to say goodbye that he was forced to confront these feelings.
He completely shut down. With a plastic expression he stayed with her, his hands clasped around hers. Everything slowed to a crawl. He didn’t even notice her press her necklace--an heirloom from her own mother--into his hands. Couldn’t even speak as she asked him to take care of himself.
Then, she was gone. He was truly,
truly alone.
The next few months were a blur. He forced himself to maintain his routine. Wake up, shower, breakfast, school, go home, dinner, games. His grades slipped and he only barely graduated--he doesn’t remember the ceremony at all; it was as if he drifted through the last year of high-school in a dream. Jack didn’t enroll in college right away, nor did he enter the workforce--he stayed home, withdrawing further into himself and immersing into those online worlds.
It got easier with time, though he developed a flippant detachment to his family and what friends he had made in school and online. Jack kept them at arm’s length, but with a smile--always radiant, but never reaching his eyes. Why should he put in the effort to get so close with anyone? Nothing lasts forever. Might as well cut out the middleman; You can’t lose what you never had. He was an actor. Playing the part of the friend. Playing the part of the hero. Playing the part of someone who really,
really cares.
