Midtown Metropolis

When it was still somewhat focused and determined, Preston knew it was better to lay down some suppressive fire to distract the creature instead of doing anything large and drastic to disrupt the other heroes working on taking down the monster. If he were to have walled it in while someone else was preparing an attack, Preston couldn't predict the outcome of two or more heroes getting in each others way. It was best he stay behind and let them take the lead. This was their planet, after all.

But his opinion began to change when one of them cast what could only be described as magic, and sent the monster into a blind rage. Obviously it hurt the creature enough for this to happen, but there was no telling where the fight was go from here. It's movements were erratic, violent, and even more determined than before to bring the city to ruin.

"I'm going to box it in!" Or at the very least he was going to try. A massive creature that size would need a hell of a box to contain it, and Preston doubted his own abilities to make a construct that big and to be able to hold it.

Now that he was thinking of other heroes, where was Saraka? He said he was here to help and protect Preston, and this was absolutely a situation where any help was welcome. Surely the shark-wolf wouldn't have just gone on his own in the few hours that Preston had been using the train and watch movies, so where was he?

There was no time to think about that. Preston swooped down closer to the Hydra, his ring pointed forward. Doubts or not, this was what he had to do, he had to at least try, and if Saraka wasn't here, then oh well. Preston would still get the glory of the battle.

From the ring shot forth a beam of emerald green light, which spread far and wide to try to capture the writhing mess of tendrils and heads. He clenched his teeth, his resolve steeling more with each passing moment. He wouldn't allow this creature to harm earth!
I was just gonna have Preston do some cover fire to keep it distracted. He knows he could probably just try and cage it, but there's not telling how that will effect the flow of the battle and other people's attacks on it.

"Preston, detecting sudden foreign signature in this star system, it seems to be en route to earth."

It wasn't bad news, but it was news that Preston wasn't expecting from his ring. He had just left the Justice Station and stared to fly around and make his way planetside. Unfortunately, the little alert from his ring compelled him to slow down and take a look at it.

"About how much time do we have until it makes impact?" He asked the ring which was now raised to his mouth.

It was quiet for only a moment, and then began to glow as it spoke to him. "It will be arriving in roughly two and a half to three hours. The signature was only just large enough to be detected at this range."

So he had time. That was fine. First order of business, he would hop down to Metropolis, help Grim and the other heroes with this threat, and then hopefully catch whatever signature was floating through space. In times like these, Preston really wished he had gone through with Ascension, the Vespasian tradition of merging with bio-robotics to become a wholly techno-organic lifeform. Having tech like that at his tingertips would let him pick up more data on whatever was floating through space and maybe even communicate with it if it was capable of doing so. Oh well.

From the heavens descended a streak of unmistakable green light, a phenomena that had not been seen on earth for many, many years. "That thing is hideous! I'm hoping it wont take long to rid your planet of this beast, I have to get back to finishing the final Die Hard movie." And also stop the thing headed towards earth, but with the power of the ring, stopping a meteor or maybe even a ship was childs play. This monster, though, seemed different from other creatures that Preston had encountered before.

Finding Grim wasn't hard. They were wearing large and bulky suit of armor, and were accompanied by other heroes in the surrounding area. It only made sense to fire a few distracting bolts at the creature while the others worked hard on bringing it down. "Green Lantern reporting, what's the plan, grim?"
Yippee Ki Yay, motherfucker.

So this was earth culture. After the general tour of the Justice station that Grimm had so kindly provided, Preston had found a little corner to watch the collection of movies given to him. He had finished the first 'Die Hard' movie and had moved onto the second one in the series.

There were two other members of the Justice League, his father's old team, that inhabited the station. Masquerade and Kraken. He held brief conversations with the both of them, but most of his time was dedicated studying these films to get some sort of grip on Terran culture.

They did not help.

Preston already knew that this movie was several decades old and considered a classic, but there was nothing that Preston could gather from this that seemed relevant at all. Was this a regular occurrence on earth back in the day?

Preston took it back. these films were great. While he couldn't find himself able to sit down and watch all of these films, he did find a happy alternative.

He found himself in the training room of the Justice Station, practicing with a construct of a Vespasian staff like the one his mother wielded in battle. In the background played the audio of the third Die Hard movie, and Preston would keep his eyes on it as he continued his training.

Saraka said he was posted to watch over Preston, but there was no danger to speak of right now, so he was free to do as he pleased. The Chtho'Am was free to spar with Preston if it so chose, but the young Hybrid wasn't going to force him into anything. After he was done with these movies, he would move to an information terminal and study up more on Terran Culture... Or, he supposed he could just talk to the two other people on the space station with him. That was also a possibility.

Grimm had long since left the station to go planetside, presumably to work on their patrol or monitor things close up. Whatever the case may be, Preston help himself holed up in the station as he took a summer action blockbuster from the year 1990 far too seriously as a cornerstone of Human Culture.

”Calling Operatives Champion, Masquerade, Velocity, Kraken, Guests Green Lantern, Blue Lantern, and Zeka: Operative Wonder Woman requests assistance in Metropolis. Current Status: Deadly on a city-wide scale.”

The communicator that Preston had strapped to his hip had gone off, along with the PA system in the justice station. Preston grunted. He was almost done with the final movie! But work had to come first, and this was a major problem if so many heroes were being called in, even three guests to the station.

The communicator was thumbed, Preston was already working his way through the corridors to the nearest airlock. Specifically, the one that he had gone through to get into the station in the first place.

"Green Lantern, reporting."

But he didn't say anything after that. He took a long pose, remembering that he had no idea where this Metropolis was.

"Station." He spoke aloud, standing before the airlock. "Where is this Metropolis?"

"The city of Metropolis is on the east coast. From space, it is so the right of the massive wasteland known as 'The Scar'. The location is being marked on your communicator."

"Thank you," Preston nodded his head, despite the fact that no one was there. "Now please let me out of here."

The first door of the Airlock had opened just long enough for Preston to make his way through. The hissing of the air being let out became next to nothing in the vacuum of space, and Preston started his descent down to Metropolis.

"I'm en route. I'll be there shortly."
another speedster? Flash war?
The quirk demonstrations didn't end with him. There were a few more who had yet to show off what they could do before they would be moving on to the next part of the day. Another man from a myth, a Werewolf, and one more who seemed to be able to transform. There seemed to be no end of enthusiasm from the teachers, a level which would increase tenfold with the sudden appearance of the principal of the school, Todoroki Ishin. He was mighty and powerful with his quirk, and the flame in his heart almost seemed to burn brighter than he ones he produced.

Spacenaut had asked them all to line up in an orderly fashion to get their dorm keys. Dimitri knew for a fact that they would be living in dorms, simply a safety precaution because of protesters and the hostility over quirks, but he couldn't remember if he was going to living in his own room or not. Well, he packed light. He wasn't going to get in anyone's way with his things.

The excitement didn't end there. With a chilling wave washing over him, Dimitri flicked his gaze to Death Glare, the security officer and tutor of the school. The ground rules for the school were rather simple. Be back by nine, don't leave the city, guests must be checked in, and overnight guests are strictly prohibited. Dimitri didn't see any of the rules conflicting with him, and stayed quiet as Todoroki gave them a brief tour around the school.

Their tour, if one could even call it that, was simply a walk to the dorms where they would all be living for the next year, and hopefully the next four years. Dimitri's key was labeled for room Two.

With his door unlocked and opened, Dimitri flicked on the light to get a look at his new living quarters. Three beds. He would make due. Still, he wondered who he would be sharing the room with. It wasn't that loud guy with the fire based quirk. Dimitri had seen him walk into the first room in the hall, so there was no need to wonder if he would be bunking with him.

None of this was making any sense. They were a secret corps whose mission was to protect Green Lantern rookies, but not even the guardians knew about them? The guardians could huff and puff all they wanted, but Preston knew that they didn't know everything. The bigger question was who in the Corps was letting this happen if it weren't for the Guardians themselves? Every lantern, no matter how legendary or powerful, didn't have that kind of say-so.

And what of this threat that was attacking other rookie green lanterns? Preston would have to handle this threat, or move it up the ranks to someone who could handle it. But honestly, he didn't like the idea of his first day on this planet being interrupted by someone saying that they were going to watch over him. It hurt his pride, even though he knew that it was probably the safest option.

He remained quiet for some time, seeming to be processing this information when in reality he had checked out after Saraka spoke his name. Preston was doing his best to recall all of the information that was just said to him, but trying to pass it off like he had been listening the entire time.

"It would..." He grumbled. "Seem beneficial for us to work together. If our rings truly do unlock the true potential of the other, then it would be a safer bet to welcome you into the fold instead of driving you away."
His mother always said it best. An ally is only an ally when you let them help. Lest this force directed at the newer lanterns come and attack Preston next. He would have to swallow his pride for now.

"Okay, then. Saraka, this is... Grim." Preston barely remembered the name. He wasn't exactly paying attention to the conversation in that moment, and the armored human wasn't even talking to him. It was a miracle that Preston remembered the name at all. "And this one... Zeka? I believe? I don't know these two people at all, but I feel since we're all strangers, its only fair for all names to be given."

In this moment, away from the boredom and distracting little airlock, Preston showed a surprising amount of his father inside of him. Steady, diplomatic, and reaching first with an open hand. He also showed a bit of his mother in the way that he stood and spoke. Though they weren't the most graceful words, he was still thinking somewhat ahead and willing to put his pride on the line in exchange for the safety of others.

The Other Lantern? Tucking in, Preston flipped himself back up so that he was orientated like everyone else. Preston was never made aware of the fact that another lantern would be escorting or joining him, but with this news, he hoped that it was his godfather/uncle who decided to follow him. Preston had a strong feeling that wasn't the case, but it never hurt to hope.

The airlock hissed once more and popped open. the green glow that covered Preston never left, and as soon as the airlock opened he floated out of the station to find...

The lantern.

It was a large, blue and white, quadrupedal creature who glowed in a blue light. Preston, though lacking the tired and annoyed buzz that Grim had, was equally as confused, albeit for somewhat different reasons. the Sinestro Corps which used the yellow power of Fear was obviously the other well known group that wielded Power Rings. But blue? Preston had never seen a Blue Lantern Ring, nor had he heard of them or even thought of the possibility until just now.

His ring shot out in the direction of the... creature, and Preston issued it a command. "Ring, what is this species?"

The ring shot out a green light to scan the creature, intent on reading it and identifying it.

"Target is a Chtho'Am, hailing from the planet Chtho'Am. An amphibious, quadrupedal species with a warrior-based caste system not entirely unlike the one on Vespasi."

Curious.

"What information is there on Blue Lantern Rings?"

"None."

None? Not only curious, but worrying. He floated closer, exerting force to make himself glow brighter.

"I'm Preston Westfield, the protector of this sector." Heh, that rhymed. "May I ask who you are, what you're doing here, and what exactly that ring you have is?"

With the conversation going on between the two metallic men, Preston found himself with little to do in this tiny air lock. The floors and walls had been inspected thoroughly and he wasn't going to disturb their little talk. Instead, Preston rose his ring to his face and spoke quietly into it. Not that he was hiding information from his host and fellow guest, but simply not to get in their way for the time being.

"This is Preston Wesftield, Green Lantern of sector 2814 reporting in. I've made it to my... station, and am engaging with the current protectors of the planet." He spoke, waiting patiently for a response.

"Good job, kid. I'm glad you made it there in one piece." A hearty laugh and a snort came from the other side, much to Preston's annoyance. "I guess I'm our fifty credits, but Tomar-Re is reaping in favoring you."

"Thanks for the confidence, Kilowog." He stated dryly. His instructor still held no sympathy for him, even all the way out here.

"Have you viewed your dad's notes on the planet yet? Humans are a breed all their own, and pretty isolated despite their level of technology." Tomar-Re, an old friend of Morgan's, cut into the call with his own suggestion. At least someone was on his side.

Despite them not being able to see him, Preston shook his head. "No. I've decided to experience Terran Culture without assista-"

And suddenly his ring burst with laughter. Not only from Kilowog, but also Tomar-Re, who chortled in the background. Preston groaned.

"I'll report in again once I've made more progress."
