It's in the FRA, on the East Coast.

I want to do an interactive story thing for someone. I'll just put down a few basic notes.

-You control your character. I control NPCs, and the environment around you. You react to the things I put forth, and try to survive in the world and advance your story.

-I decide the outcome of any actions you make.

-If you make a wrong move, your character can get killed. You can ask questions to get more information before making a decision.
Assuming there is a possibility of failure, remember to attempt actions. Don't assume you automatically succeeded.

I don't have any specific roleplaying requirements, but please be relatively detailed. If you can be detailed and simultaneously not have overly long posts, that's fine. I probably won't do very many of these, so I'll just select one or two people who post here.

Overview

You live in a slummy town somewhere on the East Coast. For one reason or another, you've resorted to taking up the work of a hitman, and could possibly delve into other criminal trades as well. Life is hard.

This is set in an obscure alternate history sometime in the nineties, in the Federal Republic of America. Along with a few other differences from reality, the world didn't grow more peaceful after WWII; things just became more screwed up. Nuclear weapons technology didn't become too developed, and methods of waging war remain relatively unsophisticated. No drone strikes or atom bombs, just pouring troops into the meat grinder.

For unknown reasons, somewhere along the line, the Federal Republic of America and the British Empire went to war. Previously, the Republic scuffled with the Russians and Germans sometime in the sixties and seventies. Many cities in the Republic are plagued by riots, crime and disease. Societal breakdown and corruption can be witnessed everywhere, and many regions have been caught up in the military conflict between the Federal Home Guard and the Royal Invasionary Forces, with the northern portion of the Republic being the most chaotic. British incursions on American soil originate from Canada, where many military strongholds are based.

The war could spread to your hometown- but it hasn't yet.

They adhere to their nation's norm. In this case, it is the Church of the Sacred Keeper.

High political figures always present themselves as following it to some extent. Most follow it casually. Some follow it zealously, while others are cynical of it or just use it as a tool.

Welp, peasants have assorted strange misconceptions about health/science/luck, that can vary. One person might think that eating vegetables raw is unhealthy, and another might think that having the guts of a swatted bug on their arm would bring bad luck. Generally silly things like that.

The state religion in this kingdom is the "Church of the Sacred Keeper". It's opposite is a religion called "The Truth". The deity of The Truth is the "devil" of the Keeperites, and the deity of the Keeperites is the "devil" of The Truth. Basically, the followers from them hate each other.

In the CotSK, each "good deed" you do equals a day in paradise. Each "bad deed" equals a day in hell. Good deeds usually involve killing heretics, and giving an animal sacrifice each year if you are a cattle farmer.

I gtg for about an hour, will be able to tell more about it later.

7-8? There are stake burnings and witch hunts occasionally, and people are generally superstitious. I can give information on the in-game religion's take on a specific issue, if you want. There are regions that are much more zealous than this one, however.

[See OOC section for information.]

The bridge remained blocked by those acting under the Viscount's orders. The tax resisters are being held at bay by these armed men, so that they may not pass into the lord's personal territory.

In the days of Cyler's Tax Rebellion...

You are all residents of the Tremfast Viscounty, living in the lands surrounding viscount's keep. Recently, a heavy royal tax was instituted by the crown to pay for foreign mercenaries to fight in the wars. This outraged most of the populace, seeing that their money would be used to employ soldiers from another despised land. The peasants and freemen of the land protested, and marched to the bridge leading across the river so that they could reach the castle. However, the viscount had sent petty constables and volunteer watchmen to stop anyone from crossing said bridge.

It appears that violence may spark soon, as both parties are armed.
Rules, Notes

This is a fictional medieval universe. It can be considered "dark fantasy". But magic doesn't exist, and there's also religious violence, war, misery, disease, stuff like that.

Your character should not have any edge over the others. You are not an ex-knight, a half-wolf, etc.

The viscount's men have no armour. Just caps, hoods and tabards bearing his coat-of-arms for identification.

If you're fighting a NPC or a player, decide how you want to attack, then allow me to decide the outcome. I use random.org.

If more players are on one side, I will balance it out with NPCs.
In your CS, include a weapon. If you want something else, ask for my approval.

Watchmen's Arms

Shortened Spear
Quarterstaff
Pitchfork
Old Wooden Buckler & Cudgel

Rebels' Arms

Pitchfork
Hatchet
Cudgel
Knife
Sickle
Scythe
Spade

It's been a few years since the dead came back to life for basically no reason and caused the world to go to shit. The dysfunctional (but still existing) U.S. government plucked you guys from a couple small towns that had not been been hit by the outbreak yet. You were all given poor military training and supplied with meagre equipment and camouflage fatigues before subsequently being dumped in a checkpoint in the middle of nowhere. Nothing interesting has happened there since. The radio stopped working eventually, leaving the outpost in the dark. None of the undead show ever show up, since you are situated out of the hotzones.

But you can guess how long that will remain.

Rules & Notes

1. There is a small tabletop element involved. When you are doing something like moving to new locations, searching for items, or attacking something, I use random.org to decide the outcome. If you make a post that contains major actions, wait for me to reply with the outcome. Trivial stuff doesn't need to be regulated by me, but if you are unsure about something, ask.

2. You're not professional soldiers. Pretending to be one won't help anything.

3. You will probably die. And I can make it happen, since the general environment and NPCS are controlled by me. You play as your character.

4. Here's a poorly-drawn map of where you are: http://i.imgur.com/PJzz8AT.png
