The timestamp is to prevent serious continuity errors. It refrains some players from jumping into major events going on haphazardly simply because it might be fun. If done right, it shouldn't ruin a player's ability to advance their character farther ahead than others with one exception. That exception being if your character is a couple months ahead than most others and someone else causes a major event that takes place a little further back in the timeline, your posts that have been occurring a week or two ahead wouldn't have references to that event.

It's not a perfect system, no, but it prevents more problems than it may cause. If every one who joined was capable of keeping their posts cohesive to the larger continuity - as Byrd does - then such a system wouldn' even need be suggested. Unfortunately, though, past experience has shown us that some players who take part can not do so, and that jeopardizes maintaining a relative order to an RP.
I would say the same for any roleplay. It all depends on the starting point; the central event. But in UDC the starting point is January, which is fine so long as every RP doesn't pick the month simply because it's the first of the year. So, as you want to do a full year skip in UDC it makes sense to begin it in January.
Who's to say the 'year' in the timeline has to begin in the beginning of a literal year? Year two or three only refers to how many years it's been from a starting point. If the event this RP's storyline is starting from (let's say the 'birth' of the modern hero) occurred in September of 2012 and it's now September of 2013, then September is the start of the second year of the modern hero. Simple as that.

I for one would enjoy starting sometime other than January or February, and September is perfect for the teenaged characters; start of a new school year. So, I'm all for it.
The OOC is already up for this. Might want to take the chatter there.
I have no problem with year two as it fits perfectly with my plans.

What date does the RP begin at, though? Month/Year
And can we implement the timestamp system as we had in the last UDC?
Good thing this is still just the int. check so I don't have to worry about the 24 hour rule regarding Drew's Spider app yet.
