Photo taken in 1989, shortly after Kwan was captured by the Soviets. Kwan is on the far right. The man in the center was his co-pilot and the man to the far left was their wingman. Neither survived imprisonment, except for Kwan.
Personality: Kwan is a mature, thoughtful man, preferring to think before acting. His long times alone surviving in Afghanistan have made him a quiet man, despite his skill with languages. He can be quite friendly, however, with those close to him, especially his brothers in arms.
Despite his age, he is well-liked among his clients and potential clients for his mercenary work for his versatile, flexible and adaptable nature, easily and calmly adjusting in any situation in order to get the job done.
Personal History: Kwan was born on the 17th of July, 1968 in Daegu, South Korea to a middle-class couple who both worked for a journalism company. As a child, he had a quiet life, spending most of his time as many of his friends did, though he did spend a considerable amount of time learning English with a close friend of his parents, who was an American immigrant to South Korea. After he graduated high school with above average marks, he decided to join the Republic of Korea Air Force in 1986. He passed through training with ease and he was well-liked by not only his fellows but also his superiors. Due to his English skill and his excellent flying ability, he was recommended for a soldier exchange program with the USAF in 1984 which he eagerly accepted. Upon arrival, it was evident to his new American comrades that he was a great asset and they set themselves to work on attempting to find a good use for him.
This 'good use' came in late 1987 in the form of a top secret mission in Afghanistan. He would fly missions against the Soviets in unmarked aircraft in order to finally expel the Soviets from Afghanistan. He arrived in the country in December, 1987 and he began to fly these missions in January of the next year. These went exceedingly well, until March when he was shot down by a Mujahideen forces who had confused his aircraft for a Soviet one. Kwan barely survived the crash, and had to evade not only Soviet forces, but also Mujahideen forces for months in the harsh environment of Afghanistan before being captured by a Soviet patrol. It seemed like the end for Kwan, but he was saved when he managed to befriend an old Soviet officer who had learned Korean during the Korean War. By recommendation of the Soviet, a man named Andrei Ivanovich Verov, he adopted a new identity (a Soviet Russian of North Korean origins) and successfully defected to the Soviet Union.
After that, he stopped flying for a long period of time, instead traveling with the officer throughout the Communist Bloc and its allies, visiting places such as East Germany, Africa and even Cuba. Upon the death of his friend, in 1993, Kwan decided to end his voyages and attempted to settle in the West. However, he was met with difficulty in doing so due to an incessant itch to return to the battlefield and Kwan joined the French Foreign Legion in the same year. He stayed with the legion for fifteen years before leaving after a "dispute" (in his own words) and trying mercenary work in the war-torn world. This eventually brought him to the Pacific when he was given the mission of chasing down a JASDF defector...
