At least Bethesda treats us like we're people instead of wallets on legs that need milking machines, like EA seems to think customers are.

@Dealdric, sorry that it took us a little while to comment, but here's our general remarks;

  • It needs to be written up as a Freak. Bodily changes due to powers are the hallmark of a Freak.
  • Clarification on the ability: "Can he control the material around the shard?"
  • Weakness: Ruby is nice, but then we remove the fact that his body is like or made up of ruby: instead and insectoid form?
  • Powers: Just bodily manipulation and telekinesis is fine.
  • This reminds me personally of Deoxys, the Pokémon.
  • A general all-round fleshing-out. More personality and power description mostly.

So right now, 6/10. We'd let you in just on concept, but let's refine it before we let him loose, yeah?

@Old Amsterdam, self-harm is bad.
Lavaridge Town
<Snipped quote>

Carefully removing his hand from its warm spot and settling it around Asuna's waist, Keoni greeted the girl. Obviously she was one of the family friends, or at least, someone Asuna knew. Didn't look old enough to be a peer. Maybe she was from next door or Asuna's old school? "Morning, I'm the boyfriend, Keoni. Alola."

The young woman didn't bother reciprocating the greeting and kept her stern and impatient focus on Asuna. "Where is he, anyway?"

"Rustboro, most likely," Asuna said as she started to change into more appropriate day-time clothing without concern they were both in the room. Her tone seemed to shift slightly, trying to match that of this stranger's. "Although, I never learned how quickly he was going to act."

"Then why are you fucking here?" she asked rhetorically toward Asuna. Her tone was more bitter, condescending. Her word choice was the only kind of humor she would ever express.

"Because I'm her boyfriend and I'm damn good at it. And she's better." Keoni stood, not quite looming, but still emphasizing his height over the girl. He didn't like the tone this girl was taking. Firstly, it was impolite. Secondly, it was directed to Asuna, who didn't deserve it.

"I wasn't speaking to you," she said with cold eyes and her index raised in a gesture of his needing to take a step back. If he didn't know any better, she was being as threatening as he was attempting to be.

"Now who the hell are you and what the hell are you doing here? I know I'm from halfway around the world, but I'm sure that I'd be well within my rights to have Robin pin you to the floor by your foot."

"I'm not your concern," she said, continuing her threatening tone. "And I'm not in the mood to be humored."

Asuna put an arm around his waist, pressing herself subtly against him. "Keoni, don't be like that," she said, putting a finger against his cheek and turning him to kiss her. He did, pulling her close before breaking it off. "I did tell you I have a job. These are my grandpa's springs. It's his business, not mine."

"And it's in your best interest to speed things up, Asuna."

He tilted his head as she trailed a finger over his neck. He smiled indulgently, twirling her hair, then turned and whistled at a pitch that made her flinch. A decidueye feather flew through the window, ramming into the wood after flying past the girl's head and nicking an ear. "But it's polite to make introductions too, love. And you can fill me in."

Asuna's eyes just widened in shock and terror. Her eyes darted back between the girl and Keoni. "Sam, please!" She moved between them, letting go of Keoni. In that moment, Keoni glowed a bluish green and was raised off the ground and slammed against the wall.

"And it's also polite to not attack others over pettiness." Her voice was venomous, now. Her eyes glowed in a similar color and the Meowstic behind her revealed himself and showed similar eyes upon Keoni.

"Ow. " Keoni waggled his feet experimentally, but he didn't seem to be coming down. "You don't know what a decidueye is, do you?"

Though he was stuck where he was, he did seem able to shift his weight slightly as his back complained about the impact. There must have been a beam where he was.

Two arrows shot through the window to hit the floor close to the Meowstic and its trainer. But a light pink dome materialized to deflect them into away from their target. The hue was similar to the Espeon's coat that rubbed against the girl. At this, Keoni was released to fall to the floor gracelessly.

"I'm not here to play," the young woman said, her full attention on Asuna. "I have more important things to do. I'll be checking in on you in Rustboro."

Without any notice, the three of them faded from existence almost immediately and the room fell into a silence Asuna could barely handle. She ran over to Keoni, helping him pick himself up into a sitting position. "Are you OK? She didn't hurt you? She's such a bitch and I really should have warned you about her. Of course she had to show up when I was all..."

"Honey," Keoni tugged the front of her bra, lacking a shirt collar for a better grip. "Calm down. Who was that?"

She settled onto his lap. "Sam. She's my... colleague. She does the brute force and surveillance for our group. I'm like the investigator who gets into places and gets information. This was supposed to be a holiday where I just be with you and pretend like my life isn't a colossal mess and owned by people, but now it's all ruined and I have to work again." She locked lips with him again, the fierceness of her kiss almost hiding the tear running down her cheek.

A deft movement behind her back left her topless again. "You know, we did travel a little around Alola when you were there." Keoni wiped her cheek. "Maybe you can show me this Rustboro town, and we can have a little more privacy..." Asuna smiled as the mood in the room returned to what it was before the interruption. He ran a hand up her spine, as if pushing up the giggle that bubbled from her throat.

"We can take the Shinkanto and be there by this evening," Asuna said, rocking in his lap. "You have to help clean the hot springs before we go."

Keoni pushed her back onto the bed. "So there's nothing else I'm supposed to do before we go?" Asuna laughed properly that time.
@Lionhearted, I want a character who discovers an ability to sandbend that leads them to a sandbender heritage. Being from the desert undercuts the "my family lied to me" aspect. I could change something, but it's the only thing that I would like to have. Apparently it's too much for the GMs to give me one bit of leeway to build a really poor earthbender going on a character arc to find their true ability.

I know Toph was exceptional. But Player Characters in general are special. We have the head Fire Nation spy in Ba Sing Se and a Kyoshi Warrior in the game. Neither of them are mundane. They're exceptional, likely competent individuals. I've even proposed that my character be absolutely horrible at earthbending in general, just so I can have them discover and learn and grow on the direction of sandbending.

We're talking about a complete klutz learning one narrow avenue of bending that they're actually half-decent in, then going to learn from the masters despite their parents' wishes. This is apparently too much for the RPG, and the GMs, to accept.
@McHaggis, I am as well. If the character discovering a family history of sandbending via bending is too much for this RPG, it's not one I'd like to join.

@thewizardguy, no worries. You're just in time, I'm sure @Old Amsterdam wants to get you right back into the swing of things.
I'm smelling an awful lot of "no" coming off this RPG. Perhaps I'd be better suited to Omashu, where King Bumi lets people "open their mind to the possibilities". I present the quote I was given by @McHaggis:

It is implied that most, if not all, earthbenders are capable of bending sand, but because of the loose shifty nature of sand it is not an easy transition for the average earthbender. The sandbenders of the desert are especially proficient with it due to their particular habitat.

It's not outside the realm of possibility an earthbender not of from the desert may turn out to have some ability in the fine control of sand over the brute force control of rock. But to save the GM and Co-GM the trouble, and since I see no reason my concept is being disallowed after several steps back, I'll say that I'm most likely out of this RPG.
@Undine, so I can't have a character rediscovering a family heritage of sandbending their parents may have hidden from them and they discovered due to being more of an Aang than a Toph? That's what I mean when I say "talented". Naturally predisposed towards a particular application of earthbending. It's fairly unbelievable that every earthbender is good at all the same things. They may all have the same range of abilities, but personality (dropping the bloodline) may make the character suited to sandbending.

Say they decided to try sandbending after class in the earthbender academy, after hearing or reading about it from somebody or in a book. They discover that's easier for them than the earthbending they're being taught. Is that impossible in this RPG?
@Phoenix, go ahead. I've got a few hours and I've added a small start. I can add more description if you'd prefer.
@McHaggis, I'm not assuming handicap. I'm asking that the character is more suited to sandbending.

You do get bloodlines suited to particular aspects of bending. The ability of Fire Nation nobility to exclusively bend lightning in this age as well as (I know it's LoK) Yakone's bloodline to be exceptionally talented at bloodbending is precedent for the character I propose to be able to have a bloodline with a predisposition to sandbending along with normal earthbending.

How about; a Yakone-esque potential to be especially good at sandbending, poor to average at big earthbending acts (maximum is throwing the small military discs with precision). Sandbenders in the family, but forbidden to explore that heritage by family. High (potential) control, low brute force. Sandbending talent that has been stumbled on by accident (like Katara could waterbend before being taught) but clumsy and uncontrolled.

I'm not asking for special. I'm asking for differently skilled.
