The OoC Thread/CS is up. You can find it here and I'll be adding my character's profile shortly for an example.
Okay! As promised, here's the Roleplay thread.

Zzz... huh? Oh no! I overslept!

I'm so sorry to keep you waiting. Not my intention whatsoever! My darn alarm clock didn't go off and– What am I saying? You're not here to listen to me ramble. My apologies... Welcome to the world of Pokémon! My name is Professor Elm, but everyone calls me the Pokémon Professor. Before we go any further, I'd like to tell you a few things you should know about this world! This world is widely inhabited by creatures known as Pokémon.

We humans live alongside Pokémon as friends. At times we play together, and at other times we work together. Some people use their Pokémon to battle and develop closer bonds with them. Others work on making their Pokémon the most beautiful they can possibly be. Pokémon Professors, like myself, study Pokémon so that we can have a better understanding of them. And still, others have found even more ways to connect with these amazing creatures. The world is truly full of possibilities!

Now, why don't you tell me a little bit about yourself?

As I said, I'll be accepting three others. This is not first come, first serve. You may start with any Starter Pokémon from any of the regions.
@Jerkchicken Unfortunately, my current MP costing formula and balancing is heavily dependent on all of these components being in place. Until I'm in a better position to either do images or the forum supports a fixed width typeface, I'm afraid I have to place this on hold.

"Perfect. Everything is going according to plan – we should be able to stick to the commander's schedule."

"The machine still works then, I take it?"

"Affirmative. It shouldn't be too much longer now."

"Oooh how soon can we begin with the new test subjects? I've got a couple right here–"

"Soon enough."

Heart Conversion at 33%

"Can't you make it go faster?"

"That was rhetorical, yes? This isn't one of your little games, Cass–"

"Relax. Both of you. We shall proceed as planned."

"But–"

"All in due time. Then you can have your fun."

". . ."

"Is that understood?"

"Of course."

". . . Cassandra?"

". . . Yes sir..."

My grandfather used to tell me stories about his travels in a distant land, a desert-covered landscape dotted with oases that sits clear on the opposite side of the world. He says that when he was my age there was a great evil in that land. Some group of scientists and evil-doers sought to take over the world by corrupting the Pokémon that lived there. I don't know if I believe it. He says these bad guys were "closing the doors to their hearts." I've never heard of such a thing – surely it's just a story. I've never been able to find this land on any map in any book. Grandpa says that's because its so far away and wild Pokémon have all but abandoned it since then. Did those people drive them away? I've asked my grandpa, but he doesn't know. He says there's a lot that we still don't know about Pokémon and that their disappearance from that land may be left unexplained for many years to come.

Whether it's real or not, I know I want to be a trainer just like he was in those stories. I want to make friends with as many Pokémon as possible and figure out what could have happened in that unknown land. I want to figure out if those were really just stories. I know when I head out that it won't be the same. Johto is not some sort of arid war ground filled with danger, especially since Team Rocket disbanded five years ago. It's been safer than ever according to the news reports on TV – the Johto Council even started bringing in Pokémon Contests and other regional specialties because things are so prosperous. It's not exactly setting the stage for some sort of action-packed storybook thriller, but I know I can become an amazing Pokémon trainer if I try my hardest. All I have to do is wait until Professor Elm finishes preparing his next group of beginner Pokémon – then I can start my journey.

Hello friends~

As with most Pokémon roleplays, this is intended to be an adventure – it's loosely based on the mainstream games, but also draws inspiration from the anime and the Pokémon Colosseum/XD Gale of Darkness series. Our characters may be setting out on our journeys with the intention to tackle the Pokémon League or Contest Spectacular, but (as everyone will quickly realize) things aren't as safe as the citizens of Johto once thought.

A little food for thought/housekeeping:

Fossils will be able to be found in caves and can be received in other instances. Goldenrod City will have a laboratory where you can bring them back to life if you so desire.

Players will determine PvP battle outcomes prior to their completion. Gym battles and Contest battles with NPCs will generally be handled between the player in question and myself.

For those of you who want an Eevee, the Moss Rock is in Ilex Forrest and the Ice Rock is in the Ice Cave. Sylveon is acquirable with a soothe bell, just as Umbreon and Espeon are.

Shadow Pokémon will be a thing. However, unlike Colosseum/XD, they won't be in the care of other trainers (obvious exceptions being our evil team) – rather, they've been set free into the wild to cause chaos in Johto. While it's not necessarily our characters' jobs to detain these Pokémon, know that a wild Pokémon you want might just turn out to be a Shadow Pokémon. There will be a way to purify these Pokémon, but we'll cross that bridge when we come to it.

I'm accepting three others. Once I have at least three notices of interest I'll draw up the IC/OoC/Profile thread and the character sheet.
@Zahrale

So, apart from the backstory, I was able to throw everything together. Given that I do not know if I will be playing a changeling, I think I will hold off on the backstory for now. My sheet is listed below!

@Zahrale Trying to get my character sheet together. It's going to be a little bit though. I'll try to have it up here for you to look at by tomorrow night!
@AlternateMan@Jerkchicken@Leslie Hall@Gisk@Lauder@Bishop

Unfortunately, my friends, I'm going to have to cancel as the forum does not support changing the typeface to a fixed width font, which is necessary to structure the battlefield. If I had more computer space and time to render the battlefield using images, I would go ahead with that, but, at this point, it is not an option. I sincerely apologize for your lost time and hard work on your profiles – I should have checked before I put up the interest check, but I didn't foresee this being a problem. I hope I have not caused you to miss out on any other roleplays that have been started recently. If I have, again, I am incredibly sorry – this was not my intention at all. If the forum receives and update and I am able to host this roleplay in the future, you all will be the first people I reach out to.

Again, my sincerest apologies, and I wish you all well.

Ellon Chronicles: Dreams on the Horizon

Current Chapter: Prologue – A New Life

– – – – –

In the world of Ellon a deep magick runs within the veins of the earth, bringing forth life as all who dwell there know it. It is said that when man, beast, and all manner of creatures first arose from the wells of the arcane essence known simply as 'Mana' that they each carved their own paths across the land and settled where they deemed fit. Of the many that chose to go their own separate ways, the most tender of Mana's children, fearing that their siblings may one day harness a greater power to destroy them, sought to go together and so their pact was formed upon the land they deemed Pereas, the Land of the People. Upon this land the children formed two factions.

The first formed by three facets of Mana's children all alike in their direct ties to certain magickal leylines buried deep within the the core of the world: the Elvish, incredibly humanoid save for their tall stature and eternal youth; the Fae, enigmatic beings of mischievous character and unbridled power; and the Creaton, furthest in similarity to the rest of Pereas' people in that they were born half of the beasts the siblings so feared. Together these magicked people formed a pact of solidarity in keeping with reverence for their connections to the world and formed the Sy’tri Alliance.

The second formed by what we know today as Humanity, the least innately gifted of all of Mana's children. They chose not to form the same solidarity as their extended kin. Instead they lived alone, exploring the lands not taken by their brethren, ever-seeking to learn more about the land they had claimed than to just honor where it came from. For a time these people lived in harmony, surrounding the Alliance and providing them with the knowledge they slowly attained, but all would not stay well.

Mankind developed much faster than any of Mana's other children. Its peoples spread and learned and built and ascended to an understanding that even they could not exist peacefully with. They developed prejudices for the kin they had traveled with, turned against them for not forming together, and deemed them lowly for their lack of curiosity and magicked features. The Creaton, worst of all, for they were viewed as savages––beasts half-born of the monsters humanity and its brethren had sought to escape. These opinions, however, were not reserved for the Alliance. The peoples of the section faction fought each other, in turns; those who figured themselves as the more innovative and knowledgable eventually split apart and traveled to the northwest regions of their land. Into the deserts where no one else would chase them and built up an impressive empire known today as the Winoan Empire.

Those who did not dare to venture in the harsh climes of the north, settled alongside a massive river and lake which cut them away from the Alliance, and kept them free from the critical eyes of those who ran. Over time, the people came to care for one another, not prizing their knowledge above each other, but instead glorifying compassion. Their world, after all, was not meant to be wrought with hatred for one another. No. These people came to realize that Mana had allowed them to create Pereas as it was originally intended: for the People. Realizing their mistakes, they formed a marvelous bridge and docks along the lake and, although it was not with great difficulty, some began to form a relation with their lost kin. The kingdom that formed became known as Alsonde.

It is here––a century and a half later––that we lay our scene.
@Jerkchicken Good questions!

The percentages of your abilities are fixed. Unless you use a skill point to change/upgrade them, those abilities do the same percentage of damage/effects every time (ignoring, of course, the potential for variance in skills – i.e. a 100% Damage ability with a 20% variance means it could do between 80% and 120% Damage). Upon each level up characters gain 3 stat points and 1 skill point. 1 stat point is equivalent to a single boost – either +5 for HP and MP or +1 for Atk/Def/Int/Spr. Movement is fixed based on profession, equipment, and S-Abilities/A-Abilities that alter movement for periods of time. Evasion receives a boost at fixed levels.

When it comes to range, think about what your character does. If he's highly agile, but an adjacent cell range attacker, an A-Ability that has him dash at an opponent or land in an adjacent cell is totally doable at level 1. AoE is a little different. I wouldn't go too crazy for level 1 – the most I would suggest is a single layer of surrounding cells or adjacent cells.

Status effects should be fairly straightforward. Keep them basic. I mean, there's nothing stopping you from putting Instant Death on a Level 1 ability, but remember, I'll cost it accordingly. Opt for less severe effects early – Poison, Burn, Sleep, and Confuse come to mind, although Bleeding could be an option too – that way you'll actually be able to use your abilities. Stuff like Deprotect and the Breaks are particularly severe and could cost more MP than you have at level 1. When in doubt, think of starting abilities from games like Final Fantasy, Golden Sun, etc.

Repositioning units is fine. Just know there are some units/objects too heavy to reposition in this way!

It's certainly still possible to build him as a dodge tank, although I don't see in your current set up how Rio is meant to fulfill this archetype. You could do a buff to his evade – 5% for a starter S-Ability – if you wanted to start shifting him toward that. If you want to keep his S-Ability as is, then you will get a 1 cell boost to his movement stat.

Is this transformation his D-Ability? If it's an A-Ability, expect for it to cost a lot given the ideas you are discussing. If it's a D-Ability, I'd have to see exactly what the buffs/new abilities are before I can make a call.

Everyone's thoughts can be executed. It's just a matter of balancing characters between one another and the enemies so no one feels gimped. :)

@Bishop @Leslie Hall @AlternateMan @Lauder

I have created the OoC thread. We can move the discussion here to keep crafting these characters. :)
