**** Kyoko Akiyama ****
Kyoko’s new students introduced themselves. On one hand, she had Hiroto who used the timeless introduction “don’t you mind fuck people? On the other, she had Reiji who at least seemed to have respect down, however that didn’t speak at all for his talent, there was a large difference. “Well, yes, I fuck their minds,” she said, casually shifting her weight to her left “who knows I could be doing it now; you saw my Sharingan didn’t you?” Kyoko asked, letting the question hang over their heads for a brief moment as she tightened her glare on Hiroto. “No of course not, I’m kidding.” She said letting out a small laugh leaning back a little.
She felt the sunlight hit the back of her neck and she realized she should probably get them started on the mission they were to go on. “So listen, I was going to have the two of you fight but you would never kill each other, so I found a better test.” Kyoko said turning to her left, as if she was looking at the challenge. “We’re to go to a carnival of sorts; it’s surrounded by some plains. We’re hired protection, did you know that a place like a carnival, surrounded by plains like that, well it’s a bandit’s favored hunting grounds?” Kyoko said flicking her tongue as she normally did, she turned back to her prodigies and nodded.
“That sounds alright, right?” She asked sounding kind.
Kyoko however, didn’t wait to see what their response would be, they’d have to get used to following orders they didn’t like or necessarily agree with to be in the Granite Guard. “So I’ll step in if you need me, but I’d rather you didn’t.” She called to the boys over her shoulder. She pressed on, walking past some of the other teams that had gathered there. “I’d like to gauge your skill in the area’s necessary to correctly carry out this mission, so I’ll hang as much as possible.” She said, not even looking back to see if her pupils were listening.
After cutting through enough of the training grounds, they found themselves back in the village. They had to take a small road leading out of town to get to the carnival itself, but something caught Kyoko’s ear. She peaked her head seemingly out of interest and was treated with one word repeated over and over: thief. A man came bolting down towards the group from the direction of the woman’s crying voice. Kyoko’s head shifted to look down the street, her hair flipping from being moved suddenly, briefly revealing her Sharingan eye for but a moment, but a moment was long enough as the thief collapsed on the ground, crying softly.
“Sorry about that, shall we continue?” Kyoko said as the woman retrieved her stolen object. Kyoko thought of one of her father’s comparisons again as she realized how she must’ve looked: “Kyoko dear, you’re about as soft as a piece of sandpaper.”

**** Ayumi Hozuki ****
Ayumi was enjoying Kyou’s company for the most part. While she did seem somewhat airheaded, she was kind and genuine enough that Ayumi didn’t hate her company, which was a blessing if they were to be Granite Guard members together. Ayumi still couldn’t imagine the girl across the booth from her in a fight though. But before Ayumi could respond to Kyou’s question she was grabbed on the shoulder. She reached for her Tanto but realized it was their sensei Kami who was dragging them out of the shop. “Uh, Kami-Senpai, I don’t think people will like the image of you dragging to girls out of a shop!” Ayumi said giving glances that read ‘don’t panic’ and ‘it’s okay we know him’ to the restaurant owner.
Kami didn’t seem to hear Ayumi as he seemed to be taking them somewhere… For some reason, but before long, their teacher snapped out of it.
‘E-excuse my rough b-be-behavior!’ He said bowing deeply.
“Oh, no it’s quite alright!” Ayumi said dismissively waving her hands in the air. Sure, her sensei was a bit of a goof and he seemed to be quite young hearted and innocent, but he was a member of the Granite Guard and that meant something.
“S-sorry! But we have an u-urgent mission! W-we have to g-go now.” Kami said pointing out towards their destination. It seemed they were headed for one of the landmarks the Tsuchikage had made while he was training.
“Oh, perfect!” Ayumi said clapping her hands, the sooner she was able to get to the mission the better.
But it wasn’t only rainbows and roses for the trip that lasted about an hour long. Her feet kind of hurt, she was a little thirsty, but she had to admit, she couldn’t deny the view. If Iwagakure and the land around it were famous for any one thing, it had to be its incredibly varied and beautiful landscape. This was no land of wind, it wasn’t a desert, and it wasn’t the land of fire either though. No, instead they were in the land of earth; it seemed everything perfectly co-existed in this beautiful land. Rivers were abundant and even some smaller lakes. Ayumi was baffled by the horizon; it was truly an incredible view. But her sightseeing had to end eventually.
“Kyou, A-Ayumi, p-please pay attention. T-this is your f-first mission... and we need to s-succeed. L-long ago t-two of my masterpiece p-puppet concepts got s-stolen by Kirigakure s-shi-shinobi.” Kami stuttered with his usual nervous shudder.
“I see.” Ayumi said, praying no one recognized her signature style of fighting; she was born
in Kirigakure after all.
“F-finally the int-intelligence corps has r-recovered their locations b-but has failed to ex-extract them.” Kami said, detailing what he knew about the mission at hand to Kyou and Ayumi. Finally, they reached the actual cliff face and could see the puppets at the bottom of the ravine. “H-hai! Since y-you are just gen-genin, we won't d-do anything more e-exciting than this. You need to l-learn what a mission is and h-h-how it works. P-please, grab the pup-”
Ayumi glanced up, hand on her Tanto at the ready. She was met with a team of four. “HA-HA-HA-HAAAAA! LOOK, IT'S KAMI THE STUTTERER. AND WHAT'S THAT? TWO GENIN? IS IWAGAKURE TOO POOR TO MAKE TEAMS OF FOUR, SO THEY PUT TWO GENIN IN A TEAM?” A deep voice chortled from across the ravine. Ayumi noticed the three Genin by her side, none seemed to be anything special, but that was simply a first glance and they were outnumbered.
“Tch, we didn’t need three Genin, I’m worth at least two of yours.” Ayumi laughed pointing out the twins. “You look weak, don’t you?” She said a grin forming unlike one her team had already seen.
“Goura-sensei.. why did you blow our cover like that.. you baaaka. Yo, Kami of the Suugo clan. We know all about you and your stupid mission, but we are here to stop you and take your stupid baka-puppets. So just go away now.” Before Ayumi could continue however, Kami spoke up.
“A-Ayumi, K-Kyou, p-please.. if you w-wish to h-help me in this fight, y-you are free to. O-otherwise.. go b-back to Iwagakure.” He said, it seemed he didn’t know anything about Ayumi even though they were in the same class for a while.
“Forget, it, give this annoying dumbass hell Kami.” Ayumi said unsheathing her Tanto.
“Kyou, I trust you can take that guy, I assume a girl like you could take most guys.” Ayumi said laughing and giving Kyou a friendly wink. “I’ve got these dumb shit twins.” She said snarling, revealing her sharp canine teeth. “See how these idiots like me.”
Ayumi growled. She launched herself down into the ravine sliding down the rocky wall, using Chakra to keep her balance and stop gravity from doing its job.
“HA-HA-HA-HA, SO THEY’LL FIGHT HUH? GIRLS GO COLLECT ME THAT ONE’S HEADBAND.” Goura sneered pointing straight at Ayumi as the two girls jumped down to meet her at the puppets.
Ayumi moved to snag one of the puppets but wasn’t quick enough. The twins cut off her exit, each one separating slowly to surround Ayumi.
“We’re going to impress Goga-San by giving him your head.” One girl giggled licking her lips.
“Well, that’d be nice if only you could get it, hm?” Ayumi said taunting her.
“You bitch!” The other twin screeched pulling a kunai from her pouch and charging Ayumi.
As she breathed in deeply as she held her Tanto in front of her. The first twin cheered on her sister. Screeching insults at Ayumi, but Ayumi blocked all of that noise out, instead focusing on the sound of a drop of water hitting a larger body of water.
Ayumi opened her eyes, looking straight at the second twin, who was now only a few inches from her own face. The twin shrieked with excitement.
“Goga-San, look, she didn’t even put up-“ Goga looked closely at the twin wondering why she had stopped speaking, to find a Tanto buried deep in her throat, coming out the other side. The girl choked on her own blood for a brief moment before dropping to the ground. Her kunai following her, bisecting Ayumi’s body, which didn’t leave any blood, only drops of water as her body reformed quickly following the kunai’s path down her stomach.
“So you guys are from Kirigakure? That’s funny, me too.” Ayumi said turning around and facing the remaining twin with a demonic grin.
Ayumi was enjoying Kyou’s company for the most part. **** Kariru Tsuyo ****
Kariru was perched in the bushes facing the entrance of the training grounds. She did a double take when she realized one of her students, Kanajiro, had been there the entire time. “Oh shit, how’d I miss that little punk?” She said scratching her chin, “I wonder how long he’s been here…” She said to herself quietly. As she said this, a grin as wide as the Sebaru ravine grew upon her face as she spied Hayashi jumping towards Kanajiro, ready to fight.
“Well it’s about time.” Kariru said quietly getting into a more comfortable position, leaning up against a tree.
Kanajiro countered the jump punch, easy enough for any beginner Taijutsu user to do; after all, jumping was one of the worst ways to attack someone. Kanajiro informed Hayashi this immediately after the boy countered. Kariru found herself laughing at their similar way of thinking. She pulled out her flask and took a quick sip from it.
Kanajiro threw a punch, but it seemed he wasn’t so sure how much the steel in Hayashi’s limbs would affect his weight as he was a little too far out of range for the punch to land properly. The boys once more challenged each other, loudly insulting each other verbally before continuing the fight.
Kanajiro used his Great Fireball technique, obscuring Kariru’s view of the action. “Oh come one!” She said loudly at first before quieting herself and ducking her head just in case one of the boys had heard her, but it seemed she was in the clear for now. “Phew.” She said, tilting her head and swiveling trying to get a better view of the action, but it seemed that until they moved out of the fire, she couldn’t see them.
As the fire began settling down, Kariru silently let out a sigh of relief knowing she wouldn’t have to reimburse Sebaru for damages. Kanajiro quickly leapt backwards out of the smaller flames while a kunai chased him, he quickly slid out of the way, but Kariru was just happy she wouldn’t have to heal that later on.
Kanajiro seemed to continue their banter from the beginning of the fight before his hands alit in flame. “Oh, I like that…” Kariru said, her interest peaked by the Jutsu. Kanajiro and Hayashi met once more, the two boys clashing. It seemed Hayashi was using a boxing style of fighting that involved a lot of quick movements for both dodging and striking. Hayashi seemed to win that engagement as he successfully caught a back kick to the side, albeit not until after it hit him, and threw Kanajiro like a skipping stone.
“Oh that was good technique.” Kariru said as if she were a judge in a competition. But Kanajiro wasn’t out, he quickly flipped back over and straightened himself up. The two clashed once more, this time sending both kicks and punches. It seemed neither boy had much of a mind for defense as they both were slightly knocked back but noticeably, neither fell. Kariru smirked as she realized what this fight had just turned into. First to fall would lose, perhaps not the fight, but the unspoken competition the two had just started.
It seemed Hayashi was forced to change strategies as the steel around his hands he tackled Kanajiro to the ground. But Kanajiro was quick to respond by getting himself up. However, it seemed Hayashi was a pretty smart idiot after all, as there were now wires that shot out towards Kanajiro that wrapped around his arm.
Kanajiro responded accurately, pulling Hayashi towards him, however it seemed he hadn’t accounted for the adjustable length of the wire as Hayashi commanded the wire skillfully, pulling Kanajiro towards him with a great deal of strength. But Kanajiro managed to stay off the ground, instead being forced to take a knee. He quickly turned that into an opportunity, using the momentum from being pulled down to launch himself towards Hayashi grabbing him by the collar and letting Hayashi fall forward, ending the unspoken competition, but Hayashi could still win the fight.
The Juunimaru boy swung his head forward and collided with Kanajiro’s nose. Kariru felt herself wince as her hand came up and made sure her own nose survived the impact, which, of course it did.
The two separated a little and without pause Kanajiro began forming handseals, Kariru recognized them as the seals for Bunshin No Jutsu. Kariru sneered, as Hayashi confirmed as Kariru had noticed, he had used the Jutsu without any set up, it was a mere waste of chakra.
Hayashi riposted with some snark and a side of kunai. Kanajiro parried the two kunai with one of his own, landing and launching it at Hayashi, though, not all that well. It seemed to be more of a diversion.
Kanajiro leapt back kneading some handsigns with a tired grimace on his face. “Oh, looks like this is going to be a big one.” Kariru said, shifting to lean upwards, interested. It seemed Hayashi took the time to, instead of pursuing his opponent, catch his breath.
“Smartest move he’s made thus far,” Kariru said kind of impressed by the tactic of waiting.
The fireball was released and it was a big one but not too big that Hayashi, dashing relatively close to Kariru’s position, couldn’t dodge. He didn’t counterattack when Kanajiro charged him unleashing a flurry of punches, most of which Hayashi managed to dodge relatively well, weaving in and out of the technique.
The two boys then got close, a complicated series of punching and grabbing taking place even in quarters as close as these the two boys managed to dodge each other’s techniques relatively well, making sure the fight wouldn’t be ended by a stray elbow. But just as the boys seemed ready to end the fight, Hayashi grabbed Kanajiro with his left hand and began speaking, they were now close enough for Kariru to hear them.
“Oh yeah.. I guess in all of the excitement I forgot. I'm your teammate. Sensei sent me here to kick your ass. Guess she wanted us to beat each other up or something." Hayashi said, grinning. "And besides. I've already headbutted you once.”
“Ah, shit.” Kariru said rushing to sit up, wiping her pants “shit, shit, that’s my cue.” Kariru said jumping out of the bushes excitedly and more than a little drunk. The boys seemed to let go of each other at this point, about time, and they were smiling at each other now.
“I see you’ve met each other.” Kariru said walking towards the two. “I’m your new sensei and we were going to go on a mission, but seeing as you’re both pretty much exhausted, we’ll do something else.” She said clapping her hands together as a green aura began emanating from them, she placed a hand on each of the boy’s shoulders, healing them as she continued.
“I’m Kariru Tsuyo, of the Granite Guard. I specialize in Taijustu and Medical Ninjutsu. I can teach you a thing or two, but the first thing I’m going need you to do is learn some basic chakra control.” She said, glancing down at Kanajiro.
“Little Leader, can you tell me what your biggest mistake in your sparring match was against Hayashi here?” She asked the boy.
