A Thread of Ice and Fire

It's that time of year again. With the fifth season of A Game of Thrones about to reach its finale, and The Winds of Winter still unpublished, I need to find something to throw my A Song of Fire and Ice cravings into. So, I'm hoping to get a good ol' role-play started, based in the world of George R.R Martin's series.

I'm looking for another individual, who is a capable writer with a keen interest in the universe of ASOIAF to create a role-play within that world. I don't have any concrete ideas at the moment, but hopefully, we can think of some together. Whether we play as completely original characters in a completely different time period to the series, or work something out from the established story, I don't mind. Hell, lets just play as Rhaegar Targaryen and Lyanna Stark and finally put the mystery of Jon Snow's parentage to rest. But honestly, I'm open to anything interesting.

So, as I said earlier, I'm extremely interested in taking control of House Marlowe of Stormtir. If it's still available, that is. Below, I've taken what you wrote about the land and its people, and have written up a small sample from the point of view of its ruler, Vivarian Marlowe; a cruel, cold woman, with an expansive goal in mind for her people. It's only a rough sample, but please tell me what you think! Oh, and when posting in the roleplay, I would not be doing so from first person; it just felt right for the sample.

Vivarian Marlowe - Sample

Broken. Never bent. Those are our words. The Stormbroken would bend the knee to no ruler they did not fear, would follow no one they did not respect, and obey not a single ruler who did not earn their station. A man who rules simply because his father’s father won a battle that nobody can remember is no ruler at all. A crown, no matter how elegant, meant nothing if it rested upon limp shoulders. The Stormbroken followed strength, and strength alone. But strength didn’t come from men alone, and as I stared out upon our ships from the Broken Keep that rested upon the largest of the islands of the Breach, I knew that none would question my own leadership simply because I wasn’t born with a cock between my legs. Women and men were all alike here; we are all born the same, we all bleed the same, and we will all die the same.
We are the Stormbroken.
At the cusp of the Breach, where cliffs fall hundreds of feet into the cold rush of the waves, it was easy to forget all the land that lay behind you; from the Hinterlands to the Lowlands, the Arm to the Golden Fields, all paled in the sheer scope of the sea. A vast, unconquered expanse, ever changing and ever cold. We rode the waves, certainly, but we didn’t own them; none could claim the sea. However, staring down upon the fleet that rested at anchor at the harbours of the Breach, the sea was perhaps our greatest asset. The ocean was a cruel mistress, but we knew it better than any other.
To an outsider, the lands of Stormtir were no prize at all. Its forests were too dense, its grounds too steep, and its pathways so narrow that barely a single horse could travel comfortably, never-mind an army. One must tread with caution; one misstep, one mistake of footing, and the jagged inclines of the land would claim you, as they had so many others. To an outsider, the lands of Stormtir were hardly worth the men it would take it occupy it.
But outsiders don’t understand the land like we do. The land is temporary, and each year more and more crumbles to the Breach, back to the ocean that birthed us. We are the Stormbroken, and we make that name true. If one hasn’t experienced the peril of the waves, they can’t appreciate the ground beneath their feet. The storms that wreck the western shore have made us what we are, and they are the only thing that shall break us. We may be born to the land, but we live and die by the sea.

I'm definitely interested! I've been keeping an eye out for a while for a ASOFAI inspired role-play, that actually had some thought put into it. This certainly looks like it's been well thought out.

If it's available, I'd love to take control of House Marlowe. I'm imagining an almost Ironborn-esque nation, that is more so dependent on the plundering of its neighboring kingdoms than producing its own resources. It would be a baron, infertile land, constantly at the mercy of the sea that is slowly but surely chipping away at the western-shore. Of course, this is unless you had a specific idea for what the landscape would look like.

I'll type up a sample piece from the point of view of House Marlowe if you like, before you decide on whether or not you'd like me to take control of them.

An Interest Check, Of Sorts.

Well, it looks like it's time to bring this thing back from the dead. Let me just dust off these cobwebs here... Ah, there we are! Good as new! It may have lost that 'new thread' smell, but I think it still has a kind of charming appeal to it. So, lets get to it, shall we?

Lately, I've decided to try and get back into the swing of writing. But I faced quite the conundrum; 'Where can I go to get some good ol' writing practice?' Oh, I know! How about I go back to the roleplaying website I posted in that one time over a year ago? Yeah, that's totally the answer! So, here I am. Below, I'll post a few ideas I've had over my role-playing career and see if they spark any interest. Or, alternatively, throw me your ideas and I'll give them a nice long read. Go on. Do it. Throw them at me. No? Alright then.

Brooke

Here, we have a role play centered around two or more private investigators, as they uncover the morbid and deranged secrets of a small, mid-western town, and the horrors that reside in its foundations. It still needs quite a bit of work, but there's something there.

The downpour hadn’t ceased all night, the dirt-trodden road almost liquid as the night sky released a torrent of rain upon the woodland. James leaned his back against mud drenched rented pick-up truck, bringing a cigarette to his pale lips. Thunder boomed overhead, and after trying and failing to light the cigarette, he flicked it to the ground and took his cell phone from his pocket. She answered almost immediately.
“Becky, call the cops. Tell them I’ve found the girl.”
Becky sensed the grim tone coming down the line, knowing the answer to her question before she even spoke. “James, should I call her parents. Is she alive?”
He shot a grizzled look over the battered bush that sat at the edge of the lonesome road, his stomach churning at the sight of her mangled, mutilated body.
“Just get the cops out here. Mr and Mrs Wilson aren’t going to want to see this. Oh, and gather the team together,” He continued, moving to the seat of his car and letting the headlights brighten the morbid scene. “We’re not finished here.”

Of Elves and Men

A role play I've tried out a few times, but never really gotten anywhere with. Centered in a world not unlike the hit book series A Song of Ice and Fire, this story features a former Witch-Hunter, left almost destitute years after the Witch Trials came to an end. Looking for one last shot at glory and redemption, he investigates an old ruin far in the deepest corners of the Kingdom, where tales of a lone surviving Witch seem to emanate. In reality, he stumbles upon a far rarer, and forgotten being; the first Elven being to be seen in thousands of years.

Nature had long since reclaimed the ruin, its grasp rooted into the crackled stone of the relic to times gone by. The narrow, dirt-trodden passage that snaked towards the entrance, surrounded on either side by the same dense nature, disappeared into darkness through the caved doorway, the fingers of vines and bed of moss ran tracing inside with it, fading into black. The stars above provided little light through the thick foliage, and only the torch guided their path from the whispers and eyes that watched from the wilderness, surely ready to engulf them were it to fade. Raylan placed one hand upon the aged stone of the ruin, the walls cold to the touch. It had been far too long since another living soul had entered this place, where the wardens of the dead stayed vigilant. All except one living soul who, Gods be good, still lurked the halls of the catacombs that riddled this place. Thrusting his hand into the cracked entrance and into the darkness, the warm glow lit the steep steps that lay before them, the end invisible, only leading to more darkness. If the tales held true, she would be awaiting them within this place, but whether they were prepared for her greeting was another question.
“Thom, leave the horses,” Raylan spoke, his eyes not leaving the abyss that awaited at the bottom of those shadowed stairs. “Let us meet this Witch.”

Oh, dear! It seems I’ve begun writing this Interest check, without first having come up with a witty or satiric opening to truly captivate all the potential roleplaying partners out there. Well, there’s no sense in starting over, so let’s try to salvage this, shall we?

Oh, come on! I’m better than that. Think, damn it, think; you’re losing them! Hold on, let’s just think for a moment; I’m sure whoever is reading this is of sound mind and intelligence, and doesn't need a witty opening to captivate. I’m sure they’re reasonable, and not a thought stealing barnacle sent to pillage ideas that they will eventually publish into a bestselling book, earning millions and leaving me in an endless void of depression that only reaches its lowest depths with me kidnapping them and sewing their fingers to fridge magnets. Well, pretty sure, at least.

So, if you’ve read thus far, I can only assume you are either exceptionally bored, or my writing soul-mate. I’ll assume the former. Now, I’m looking to get back into roleplaying; with the prospect of leaving College in a few weeks, and being thrust into the adult world like a baby bird taking its first steps from its nest, I’m looking to do what any reasonable nineteen year old would do: kill time. I’m an avid writer, whom believes in only two truths when it comes to looking for a partner; make sure that your writing styles flow like a puddle on a hill, and never to trust anyone called Jeff. Ever. So, if after you’ve read all of this incessant rambling, and you are by no means named Jeff, drop me a PM and we’ll see what we can weave together. But again, just to reiterate, if your name is Jeff, stay away from me you soul-leaching proletariat.

So, to sum up everything we’ve learned so far on this journey, I’m a competent writer, looking for equally competent writers to roleplay with. In terms of what roles I can play, I’m incredibly versatile. Look:

“I’m a girl,” Said Laura.

“I’m a boy,” Said Tom.

You see? So versatile, I might as well be a sea-sponge. That’s a little marine biologist joke. Don’t worry, I didn’t get it either; I’m not a marine biologist. Not on Mondays, anyhow. So, I have no problem playing either male or female characters, and am more than happy to play multiple characters, if needed.

Now, for the type of roleplay I’m looking for. Now, I am by no means sensitive to mature content, as long as it doesn’t take the primary focus and comes second to the characters and their development. I will play literally any genre, as long as it isn’t ‘My Little Pony’ or anything of the likes, from fantasy to horror to romance to science fiction, or all of the above. Literally anything. Shoot your ideas at me, and I’ll catch them like a bear catching salmon. Of course, I’ll also post a few of my own ideas in time, so feel free to read through them and see if anything pulls you in.

Above all, I want to have fun. I know, crazy right? I’m not interested in roleplaying with some uppity ghoul who wants no communication outside of the roleplay, and hasn’t cracked a joke since the fall of the Berlin Wall. If that’s you, I’m sure there’s someone out there for you, but it’s just not me. Sorry. I mean, if you got this far and read that and thought, ‘Oh, guess he’s not looking for me’, then I’m sorry for wasting your time. Well, not really sorry, but you can pretend I am. See?
