I might be able to scale up the size of the corporation, then.
Nation sheet in the works?
Yea I'm working on this for a bit more today. Corporations are powerful as ever, technology is rapidly advancing.
I'm definitely interested.
EDIT: Question here, is the asteroid belt open? It's beyond Mars, but corporations are already thinking of mining it, so it'd make sense. In my mind, at least.
Yep. The Asteroid belt is like the furthest thing out that has permanent settlements on it.
Oooh, I'm excited. Does this mean we can dot our factions at different locations forementioned or will we be staying in one spot like last time?
The Inner Solar System is fair game. Jupiter is the goal and nothing has been built out that far. So yes, the scope of the setting is more than Mars now.
By the year 2645, the Terran Government was at the height of its power. The Second Space boom was well under way, the economic crises cause by the First Space Boom averted. The Terran Corporations have signed the Jupiter Referendum, a cooperative effort to begin possible hydrogen and ammonia crystal collection in Jupiters Atmosphere; which, if successful would bring Earth
While corporations are gambling everything to secure Earths energy supplies, the political sea on Mars is beginning to roil. The old Settler Charters are no longer feasible, outdated and out-maneuvered by Terran Corporate Lobbyists. Violence has broken out in Elysium City, between the mining unions and corporate citizens.
The large mining conglomerate, Vulcan Technologies has hired the recently formed defense contractor Skyguard to protect it's shipments of vital minerals and metals to Earth, recently subject to corporate funded pirate action. In the Martian capital of Elysium City, the Viceroy has declared Martial Law under the Elysium Defense Force. Open rebellion cannot be far off...

With the rise of private space exploration came great leaps in technological advancement. While government funded space programs slowly became obsolete or ran out of funding, private International Corps. like Masamune Space Structures and VUlcan Technologies took the lead in space propulsion, habitation and advanced computer technology. With the discovery of abundant resources on Luna, Mars and Jupiter, a new space boom began.
Shields (Ship Hull) Only very early prototypes exist. Developed by Masamune Space Structures to prevent accumulating hull damage by space dust, and other objects (which led to the destruction of the Plymouth class settler ship, Takeshi in 2603) Some other corporations may possess the potential for the technology or even a working prototype, but some further development and research will be necessary before shields are in common use.
Foreign-Object-Hull-Deterrance FOHD (commonly called the F-word on cargo-ships) are small-scale outer hull mounted laser weapons designed to destroy or significantly reduce in size any object that may threaten the integrity of a ships hull. FOHD's are designed to track and engage potential targets automatically although some 'crack-shots' sometimes control the lasers manually..
Ion Rockets & Cargo Cannons Propulsion systems have seen an enormous advancement in the past 500 years. Continuously thrusting ION-rocketry has made travel to each planet relatively quick. Commercial cargoes (mineral shipments etc.) can be ferried to orbit and propelled at greater velocity using Cargo Cannons. Although it might be possible to send humans through the CC systems no attempts have been made.
Artificial Intelligence After the Kiev-CAO scare of 2190, the Earth Governments (precursor to the United Terran Gov't) signed a treaty effectively banning the development of AI within terrestrial bounds. Since 2595 any research and protypes have been developed on Bright-Spot station on Ceres.
Ballistic Weapons Although 'future' weapons exist, the most common weapon used planetside is still ballistic based. This is purely economical. Nearly anyone can manufacture the weapons and ammunition needed for traditional machine and assault style guns. Martian rebels especially are notorious for home-made weapons.
Those Damned Future Weapons Incredibly expensive lasers. Weapons classified as 'planet killers' launched from orbit. No space warfare has actually occurred outside of small-scale pirate action. The implied destruction of such a war is too reminiscent of the early 21st century wars. Not to say that it won't happen again.
Setting Info
The Solar System Mankind has explored the inner solar system for the past 500 years. There are permanent space habitations. Industrial Arcologies on Mars, not to mention the first permanent Martian City of Elysium. Corporation have sprung from the ashes of the early 21st century religious wars and the resulting economic backlash of the First Space Boom. They are the true powerbrokers on Earth and the Inner Solar System. With the signing of the Jupiter Referendum the Second Space Boom has begun.
Earth Earth has prospered in the last 200 years. Endless wars and economic turmoil for centuries swept aside the old Earth governments. In it's place has stood the United Terran Government, literally a World Power. But with the UTG came the Corporations, the real power brokers. The instrument of technological advancement and research. The Corporations have never engaged in open warfare, and would appear to be as amicable as ever with the signing of the Jupiter Referendum, but it would be short-sighted to think this peace will last. Espionage. Government corruption. Sabatoge. Terrorist funding & action. The Corporations are all capable of any or all of it.
Mars The jewel of the inner solar system. Martian resources seem to be endless, and millions of settlers have come looking. Whether as corporate policies or private citizens (that's a sketchy term these days) the masses have come to start a new life on Mars and with it, political intrigue. Things are changing rapidly on Mars as the Corporations muscle in on private claims. Terraforming is in it's infancy, and so infrastructure has become a hot commodity.
Arcologies and Bio-Spheres dot the landscape. Some abandoned and ripe for refurbishment. Some have been reclaimed by the red sands in the past several hundred years.

Perfect! Oh also, this is merely a question but would anyone want the game to be turnbased with some basic stats? I know that people dislike the stats as they claim that it just becomes a numbers game but right now I'm in a mildly successful NRP that uses turns and stats but tactics and diplomacy is still pretty important. You can turn the tide of battle with clever strategy. I'm just asking for opinions (especially from Rhymer as you are GM).
Probably not for this game? I'm most interested in how detailed and rich this setting has become over a few different revisions. I don't really see a need for stat-resolved combat and I don't particularly want to get bogged down with numbers.
Turnbased is ok, but most people are skeptical unless you are playing DnD. Also there is the potential for people to become butthurt over said turn based combat. But I wouldn't be too worried about it given how mature our group is.
On the other hand I could see turn based taking away from the RP for some. But the evidence is in the pudding and we won't know how it turns out until we try.
I think though that the GM doesn't want to worry about more than he has too.
I agree. I've used turns in other games and have played DnD too. I don't think this setting is right for it (space travel time scale, differing planet times would be a logistical nightmare for one) Anyways...let's take discussion over to the new thread..

The Terran Corporations have signed the Jupiter Referendum, a cooperative effort to begin possible hydrogen and ammonia crystal collection in Jupiters Atmosphere; which, if successful would finally solve the Terran energy crisis and provide fuel for future space exploration and advancement.

RP Guidelines
1. Be cool. Be active or let us know if you can't. 2. Casual or better writing standards apply. 3. Battles must be agreed upon by both or all combatants. 4. Keep the story moving with your posts. 5. If your not sure about something ask. I really like contributions from people! 6. Nation Sheet is subject to change at any time. Keep with NS guidelines.
I've posted a first 'turn' update to get everyone familiar with how this works. Now is the time to ask questions. Basically you can do whatever you want-when I finish Notes & Missives you will have a little better direction. Think of this round as a practice round. (For both you guys and me) Hopefully we can get on a weekly turn order. (I write a post, you guys give me your orders and RP)
That's what I was going for, make his own empire kind of thing. So now with my assets I must build something to give me more production to make more assets.
