Hello,
Welcome to my very vague and, I have no doubt, hardly inspiring profile. If I were to drop you a little bit of information on myself it would be the following. I'm just past thirty, served my country for eight years in the military, and I am now working in another Federal Government branch that is less camouflage and more leaning towards Investigative work.
I have attended University, earned a degree, and travel as often as possible, especially if the destination has castles, love castles. I work hard, I play hard, and writing essentially allows me an opportunity to refocus energy away from my job and into something that keeps me sane.
I despise fancy talking know-it-all assholes and everyone who talks a good game from behind the safety of their monitor. It's the internet ladies and gentleman, you aren't tough, clever, or mysterious simply because you spend countless hours crafting thinly veiled insults to people.
If you have an RP idea, hit me up. I am interested in Nation States Roleplay, and Advanced Roleplaying. Truth be told, I'd probably try anything once, to the point I enjoy played a Professor at Hogwarts once. The poor fellow ended up getting eaten by a Dragon, it was aweful.
Want someone who will get into a roleplay and not give a damn if his character dies as long as it advances the plot? Someone who will not give two hoots if his nation gets overrun and his people enslaved as long as it was awesomely done? Someone who doesn't mind playing a bad guy that's going to lose in the end anyway? Someone who just enjoys writing for the sake of story telling?
Call me.
I am here to enjoy myself, create worlds, and basically have a place to forget the real world. If you're looking for someone like that, I'm your man.
Would it not make more sense to ensure folk play races that actually can feel fear, love, hate, loathing, etc? That seems to be what you were going for with the original idea and throwing in Tomb Kingesque people's who feel none of those things seems to miss the point? Beastmen at least have to breed and have culture. Not just "Rawr, undead destroy life!"
Its easier to balance magic than it is to balance out an army's worth of tecnology.
I would love to use Warhammer races but I'm afraid people might find it limiting creativity wise. I think it still could work out though as long as people don't just copy past in the Empire or Bretonnia or something.
Yea, who would do that... How silly... *Quietly deletes Empire copy and pasted character sheet*.
It would give us a rough starting place and then we can wage war to our hearts content without the ever present, "Oops, we blew up the world". Though that apparently happened in Warhammer recently.
Having said that, now that you mention High Fantasy, we'll probably have the same issue with magic. But at least no one can engage an orbital bombardment, or just nuke a section of the world.
Also works with your Warhammer theme. Heck, I am sure some of us could even use the species from War hammer since they are all designed to be balanced already. For the most part.
Have you a link to this "Fires of Anuria" thread you chaps keeping yammering on about?
And I am all for something older in style, where we will not get into debates about technology and such. It's a lot easier to write about warfare when everyone has different variations of swords and bows, rather than tanks, planes, trucks, spaceships, etc.
The year is 1802 and Major-General Arthur Wellesley has been dispatched to command a British Army in the second Anglo-Maratha War. Amongst his forces are the 33rd Hussars, newly arrived from Britain. The regiment is untested and untried. The regimental commander, the Earl of Northumbria, paid to raise the regiment and has so been given command despite virtually no military experience save for once suppressing a bread riot in York. The men who ride with him, both officers and enlisted men, are as untried as their commanding officer.
This is the story of the 33rd Hussars.
Out of Character Information I have been debating or some time on creating an Roleplay and have opted to stick to something dear to my heart. Historical fiction. For those of you familiar with the Richard Sharpe book series, this is something similar, though without the joy of being an infantryman.
The general idea is to have our characters, mine will be the regimental commander, follow Arthur Wellesley's career from India and eventually into Spain to fight against the French. They will begin as suggested, as an untested, untrained, and generally "green" unit and slowly evolve into an elite fighting unit.
I am looking for five or more individuals interested in playing characters within the regiment. You can either be a common trooper, or if you feel so inclined you may play an leadership role in the regiment as an officer or a non-commisioned officer.
The storyline will focus on the engagements where the 33rd begin to make a name for themselves. Any large gaps of time in between will be filled by my own narration to keep us hoping from place to the next.
I do plan on it, I'm just at a wedding so the time I need to post does not exist. That said, I will try to have one up by Monday at the latest. I like the huge amount of creative freedom we have here.
