In the dreary western moors, far from the calamitous politics of the capital, the small town of Moonbright stirs with trouble. Slowly yet suddenly, the children of Moonbright have vanished. Hushed rumors and hysterical parents tell the tale, their faces awash with terror even as the words escape their lips:
A witch has taken our children, and in their wake scarecrows take their place.
With the might of the kingdom unwilling to dispatch aid to such a backwater town, the call was sent out. Moonbright needs help.
That's when the letter came into your possession. Bearing your namesake and penned by Coogan, one of Moonbright's residents, the letter was rife with pleas begging your assistance, crying out for you to ply your tradecraft with all due haste in exchange for coin, land, heirlooms, or whatever it would take. All the townsfolk of Moonbright want is to have the witch slain and their children returned -- or, at the least, have their fate discovered and avenged. No price is too steep. This is a relatively short adventure using
Risus: The Anything RPG, a free and extremely flexible little system often designed for beer-and-pretzel games. Though usually built for more comical campaigns, this fantasy adventure is relatively serious and dark in nature as written -- think
Solomon Kane, The Witcher, or
Diablo as opposed to
The Lord of the Rings. You are the heroes of this dark fantasy story, though "hero" might be subjective. Regardless, you are someone who has agreed to rid Moonbright of its witch problem, find out the truth regarding the missing children, and claim your just reward.
I'm looking for three to four players. If I can drum up enough interest (or more than enough interest! :D), I might run extra bouts of or some other adventure. For those interested, characters will be built using the standard rules in Risus (8 dice for cliches', with optional hooks and tales), though keep seriousness in mind. I'm certainly more than happy to help any new players unfamiliar with the system get a character put together, or bounce ideas off of if need be :)
