We have chosen our path. After one week of deliberation the Dominion of Canada has decided to follow the will of Britain and declare a state of war towards The Empire of Germany, the Kingdom of Austria-Hungary, The Ottoman Empire and the Kingdom of Scandinavia.

Though we have questioned our new found allies we hope we may put that aside for the time being and begin working together towards the greater victory. Further, we ask our fellow Dominion states to fully commit to this conflict, our very existence and the continuation of the Empire may depend on it.

I wouldn't have said you have to. It would probably be a better policy to pick a country you want to learn about rather than know about. For instance I knew nothing of Canada, my country in game. Now however I know a fair bit and I have really enjoyed all the research.

My reaction to reading the declaration of War

In light of recent events in Britain, an Imperial Conference originally planned for 1919, organised by Wilfrid Laurier himself will instead be brought forward, to be held this year in Ottawa. It will be attended by Representatives of the Empire over, from Westminster to Kabul. Not only will the Empire’s possible participation in the War be discussed but the current state of the World and Empire as a whole as well as trade, economics and law.

Whilst my service as Head of Canada have lead to antagonism with London in the past, this current situation has forced my opposition, as many of the Dominion states and true men of the Empire will likewise be forced.

The Prime Minister refers to German Victory as a disaster. Has he considered the alternative? What does the Prime Minister believe will happen if the Russians win and their revolutionaries swarm over Europe? Do you propose we join the War as the Italians have? To take Libya, As the Spaniards? The Holy Land? Are we to enforce the status quo thus? To side with those expansionists, does the Prime Minister remember The French Invasion of Cyprus? The Russian Plot to crush the Ottoman Empire? Furthermore you argue against the injustices of the German Alliance. It is a great sin that the Russian Pogroms have not been discussed at international level, nor do I believe one can argue for oppression of nationalism. Whilst the PM’s points are valid it is a fallacy to argue for a single side. Neither of the Warring Factions is fighting the good fight, neither for freedom nor for justice, to believe so is a falsehood.

Arguing for the Status quo is likewise as fantastical. I see a highly different world whatever path you choose. And that change in Europe- the world, whatever it be, must take place. It is not as a century earlier. Victory over Napoleon, over The Kaiser will not bring about a Second British Global Ascendancy. We need to replace the dated codes of the Vienna Congress with a truly global system for lasting peace. The only way to obtain such a future is through peace.

Whilst I have no sway over the decisions of Parliament I implore them to remain out of the conflict as strongly as I implore the end of this terrible war. I advocate the Powers of the world gathering to create a truly international precedent for peace. Why should any Canadian, any true man of the Empire fight this War. Canada will fight in defence of the crown and follow Britain, despite our differences, for Liberty the world over, but it will not descend itself into this bloody factional conflict especially in the guise of ‘justice’. But, if it must be so, we will die for thee, whatsoever the decree of Parliament - Canada will consign herself.
