Bio
Long timer roleplayer, been at it for... god, almost 15 years now all told. Hasn't been all sunshine and roses, but I like to think I've improved somewhat steadily as time has gone on.
I generally like to play older characters, or at least toward the higher end of an age range. Also, just about all of my characters are caring and protective in some capacity, even the rare meanie that I make.
I play a mixture of male and female characters. I myself am a guy.
Generally speaking I try to post at least once per week.
The screaming was the calling card. It was the sound of terror reigning as people were confronted by a thing they did not know, would not comprehend, and could not fight. It preceded the thunderous footsteps of all of them scrambling to get away. And, Aria knew as the noise reached her ears, it meant another monster had appeared. A heavy weight fell into her stomach as she instinctively recounted the previous instances; the first monster had nearly killed her before being driven away. The second had exhausted her entirely in its vanquishing. And now, the third was nearly at her doorstep, and there was but one being who knew what it would take before passing; and it certainly wasn't in the practice of talking.
"I could run," she thought to herself, "I'm far enough away that I could just get away from the broadcast range, forget this all ever happened." It would be easy, and nobody would blame her. And yet, something stopped her from doing that. Maybe it was her sense of responsibility, the knowing that she had the capacity and therefor the duty to fight these things. Maybe it was her inability to ignore those in trouble. Or, perhaps, it was simply that her transformation took the form of Marigold's drawings of her in a cruel twist that dripped irony as a snake's fang would venom. In spite of her hardships while donning it, it felt reassuring, peaceful even at times, just to wear that ridiculous outfit.
By the time she was conscious of her choice, her feet had already started moving.
It wasn't long before the Razorback noticed the paralyzed girl staring at it, and with easy prey on the mind it started rumbling toward her. As its great arms rose to come crashing down on top of her however, a spherical swirling flame erupted into being around Emily, burning and singing the rocks on the monster's forearms as they met with what felt like a physical wall. The flames dispersed as it pulled its hands away, leaving Emily unharmed. Before the Razorback regained its composure, a blur of scarlet red slammed into it from the side and sent it stumbling like a drunkard for a moment.
"Don't just stand there, get away from here!" Aria cried out to the girl as she stood in her costume, sword blazing and in both hands, "NOW!"
Turning her focus back to the recovering creature, one of the valves at the back of her sword sparked into a small jet of fire as her armor began to glow a brighter shade of red, pulling the Razorback's sight towards it- and more importantly, away from everyone else. She darted forward, just close enough to lash at the creature with her burning saber, then leaped backwards and began to strafe around toward an area less populated. The creature followed, chasing after her and swatting with its claws. Aria threw her sword before each swing, blunting the impact and protecting herself from the sharpened clutches, until the beast again attempted a brutal overhead strike with both hands. Aria once again called her protective fires, this time around herself as she raised her sword and supported it with both hands. The fierce attack broke through the shield and met the sword, driving her heels into the dirt as she pushed back with all the strength she could muster...!
Farfetched and hopeless though it may be, Aria wants her little sister back more than anything.
Background: Aria Phoenis is regarded by several of her fellow high school students as the "cool big sister" kind of person. She's kind and sweet to her underclassmen and often stands up for them, but she also doesn't hesitate to bust their chops when they mess up or step out of line. For a lot of them, it feels like she's had plenty of experience fulfilling the role; those that know her better know that is because she has, and they also know not to talk about it.
Aria once had a younger sister named Marigold, 4 years her junior. Their parents both worked overseas for most of the year, leaving the two sisters to take care of themselves growing up. And, as the elder of the two, Aria was expected to take charge on most things. It wasn't easy for the first while; she made some mistakes, some miscalculations, and she didn't always think about things quite right. But Marigold was impossible to get down, and she freely supported her big sister even with the mess ups. When she was 8 years old, Mari even took to drawing encouraging pictures of Aria dressed like a superhero, some of which Aria still has framed. Sadly, those frames are now objects of somber thoughts.
Three years ago, Mari was crossing the street on her way to run an errand when a drunk driver came barreling down the road. By the time he even noticed she was there it was too late; Marigold was killed on impact. Aria was devastated, such that even some of the best counselors and therapists in Angel City could barely get her to eventually come to terms with the loss. Her health deteriorated because she wouldn't eat, she rarely left the house, and for a long while she would come awake at night, look for Mari in a panic, then come to her senses and cry herself back to sleep. It took her a long, long time to teach herself acceptance of the matter. But, as of one year ago, she seems to have finally managed to restabilize her life. She smiles again, she eats healthy, and she aptly enough seems to fall into her old big sis habits with people she knows. And yet, people that know know to not mention Marigold, as the recollection still swiftly drives the happiness from Aria's face with the greatest of ease.
Monster Fighting Abilities: Aria's magical transformation wreathes her in flames and features a science fiction styled two-handed broadsword, styled after Marigold's drawings. Her strength and stamina are increased even more than most, and she gains several flame-themed powers.
--Burning Blade: The broadsword is able to project a blade of fiery plasma that Aria can extend with additional energy if she so chooses. The blade sears and scorches where it strikes, and with repeated assaults even fire resistant enemies will begin to feel the heat.
--Wall of Flames: Aria can conjure a barrier of swirling fire to protect herself or an ally from attacks. It's most effective against physical attacks, as it's protection primarily comes from the flames consuming objects that come near or the heat pushing them away, but it can hold up against energy based attacks within reason. While it's capacity to prevent damage is high, it's also short-lived, as the flames fade away quickly, thus it's best used in emergencies.
--Blazing Beacon: Aria can cause her sword and armor to flash and flare threateningly, attracting an opponent's focus onto her rather than others less durable.
--Phoenix Overdrive: The longer a fight goes on, the more dangerous Aria becomes. As she fights, every so often a gout of flame called a Phoenix Feather will ignite from the back of her sword (see picture above). When the 3rd Feather ignites, she can unleash a tremendously powerful attack by consuming the Feathers. However, she can't ever have more than 3, and the Overdrive takes such a toll on her weapon that using it more than once per Monster Phase is impossible.
Apologies for the radio silence, it's been a long week. But hey, I brought a tank.
