Gin silently listened as this "Yama" lady explained the nature of this "Naraka" phenomenon. It all sounded quite grand, and he would never have believed it were he not in this current situation. Looking at his hand, he wondered just how effective his new abilities would be. Yama may have said that they would not work where they were right now, but that certainly did not stop Gin from trying it all the same. He stared at Yama and tried casting it on her, but it naturally had no effect. With that result, Gin decided not to try his luck any further and instead continued to listen.
The rules and rewards of Naraka were certainly troubling, but not surprising given the circumstances. Any one wish could be granted by the winner, yet the cost was the lives of everyone else participating. Gin thought about what his wish would be, and a thought came to mind: the smiling children of the orphanage. That being said, though, Gin had no desire to kill anyone. Save self-defense, he had no desire to even hurt anyone. He already went through some dark times, and he'd rather not go through darker ones. It seemed like he might not get a choice in the matter, however...
As Yama concluded her explanations and Naraka began, Gin awoke to find himself back at the church, where he had originally fallen asleep. He briefly wondered if what he had gone through was merely a dream, but one look at his clothing, as well as at the nearby window, told him that that had been no dream. Naraka was real; one person was going to die each day. Gin stared at his hand, then concentrated, activating his powers to test them out. A small bit of concentration and time was all it took to use each one, and if his understanding of them were correct, then they were very straightforward as well. There was little training that was needed for him, though he figured he could use some experience in actual battles.
Gin now thought about what his next course of action would be. He had already been seen in his priest robes, so the church would probably not be a safe place for very long. Any competent person would narrow his location down to searching through churches. He needed to find a new place to hide and rest up between Narakas. For now, though, there was no rush. If he was thinking correctly, he'd have some time during the first Naraka as people took the time to figure out their abilities, just as he did. That meant he would need to use his time wisely.
First up was a quick change of clothes. He'd be too inconspicuous if he went out with his priest robes, so he decided to go with some casual wear. A simple pair of jeans and a collared shirt would do the trick. Next would be to secure escape routes and shortcuts. "Let's see if I still remember how to do this..." Gin muttered to himself as he stepped out of the church. It was time to get to work.
During the whole announcement, Gin was in a silent prayer, keeping his eyes closed and his palms together, while still listening to Kaiba's speech. It was a beautiful day outside, with the sun's full glory high in the sky. It was only natural he pay respects during the Light's prime time. The sun's rays were quite warm today, actually, but that only served to strengthen his faith as he prayed. Besides, his dark clothes were made in a way as to disperse heat and keep him cool, so he would fare better in the heat than most.
As he finished his prayer, it seemed like Seto Kaiba had also finished his speech. Watching Kaiba go, Gin wondered if he would have the pleasure of challenging him. Gin's Duelist pride made him tense up in anticipation, but the moment passed and he soon calmed down. Right now, though, he had other things to do, like figuring out where he should go first. After a moment's time, he quickly decided that perhaps he should find someone to travel with. He'd take in the sights, make connections, and above all, have fun. The question was, who should he follow?
Gin looked around, but didn't really find anyone who caught his eye. There were some odd ones around, such as the one with the football helmet, but no one he saw so far really interested him enough. As he turned, however, someone did just that. To others it may have seemed like a minor detail, but to Gin, it was just what called out to him. Someone was holding their cards up to the sky, specifically in the direction of the sun. Was that person a believer of the Light as well? Gin tried to make his way over to her, but he was a fair distance aways, and the girl was already on the move. Nevertheless, Gin persisted, having lost sight of her but soon finding her again. She acted as if she wished to avoid contact with others, but Gin would not back down from finding a potential follow of the Light.
While Gin had trouble keeping sight of her, she kept following a path, which made it easy to follow her. After going down a dirt path, Gin finally managed to catch up to Rura. "Excuse me..." Gin said as he approached her, out of breath from following her path the entire time. "May I have... a moment... of your time?"
I've been wondering something fora while @KOgaming...
Does the Deck Master have to be the one listed in the CS? I seem to recall Deck Masters in the anime changing every Duel, like Yugi's DM and Kuriboh, and Kaiba's Blue-Eyes and Lord of D.
Gin's life as a priest was always busy, but he never grew tired of it. The beginning of his day in the very early hours of the morning was delegated to taking care of the church itself. Of course, that meant cleaning and other bits of maintenance. A few hours with a broom, mop, and other cleaning supplies were more than enough to tackle that, though. Then came those who seeked guidance from God, whether that be to recite prayers, find repentance for their sins, or other things.
The children did what they could to help as well, but in the end, they were still only children, and eagerly set out to play once the daily duties were done. Gin didn't mind at all, and did his best to entertain them as they played together. Of course, Gin still had other chores to tackle, so he could not stay with them all the time. He made up for it at meal times, though, and the children ate happily, despite there only being simple meals. At last, the day ends, and the children are tucked into bed. Gin gives off a content sigh, happy with the life he currently had, before setting off to prepare for the next day.
Along the way, he falls asleep, tuckered out from all the work he's done.
This time, though, things changed from his normal routine....
Gin wakes up to find that things are no longer what they used to be. Instead of the ceiling of the church, he finds himself staring upward at a red sky. Rather than his head resting on a table, he is lying down on a field. Clearly, he was no longer at the church, which only begs the question: where was he right now?
First things first, though. A quick check of his belongings revealed that he was ready for outdoor travel at any time. Wallet, glasses, bible, cross, all accounted for and ready. A look around his surroundings showed that he was not alone, either. In fact, quite a number of people were around him, both awake and asleep. However, one person that really stood out from the rest was the woman in the center, dressed as what appeared to be a witch. What she began to say only made her stand out more:
"The Naraka System should be providing you information on your Assiah, Yetzirah, and Beriah at this time."
The What System? At first, Gin couldn't make sense of it, but the information soon appeared in his mind, as if it had been there this whole time. It was.... odd, to say the least.
"Allow me to congratulate you. For being partially aware of your existence's core desire, and for having a core desire strong enough to be made manifest, you have been chosen as participants of Naraka. Once you are all on your feet, I will explain what this arrangement has been made for. Do not be panicked, you are in no danger at the moment."
Gin pondered over the woman's words for a few moments, taking it in. This Naraka, whatever it was, was clearly no game. He had been through enough dangerous events to recognize it as such. What concerned Gin was what was going to happen in the future. For now, though, he would simply stand back and listen as he began to determine what his new abilities were capable of.
Things were going to be... different now, and he might as well be prepared to make the most of it.
Personality: In his daily life, Gin lives as a calm and collected intellectual, easily able to converse with others and maintain a friendly disposition. He flirts with women the first opportunity he gets, and enjoys seeing children smile. First and foremost, though, Gin is a man of faith, ever loyal to his religion. He believes that God had given him a chance at life, and is willing to do much to maintain that life. As a result, Gin prefers to see peoples' good sides and give them the benefit of the doubt, but if they show that they are not deserving of his kindness, he will not hesitate to be a little more disrespectful in his approach. He will not use violence, though, except as a last resort; instead, he simply expresses his dislike either subtly or openly, as well as playing an occasional small prank using his few talents.
History: Gin was abandoned at an early age, having to grow up on the streets. He would find whatever scraps of food and money he could, whether it was just lying around in the open or from peoples' pockets. It was a hard life, but he got by. One day, he was following an old man in black clothing. To Gin, the old man looked well off, and seemed like an easy target to swipe a bit of money off of. Gin made his move, but unfortunately, his outstretched arm was quickly grasped by the wrist. Gin, realizing his mistake, tried to pull back, but the old man's grip was firm. Rather than being punished or anything, however, the old man merely smiled, and asked him where his parents were. Gin glared at the man and stayed silent, but his stomach chose not to do the same, growling loudly. As Gin turned away, embarrassed, the old man laughed and offered him a place to stay and more than enough food to eat. Gin was reluctant, but it was too good on an offer to refuse, and the two made their way over to a church orphanage.
The old man, who was a priest at the church, had taken it upon himself to teach Gin what he knew, if at east because Gin was the first to be there. From there, Gin was turned down the path to becoming a priest, learning things from reading and writing to proper table manners to the contents of the Bible. As time passed, more and more kids were living at the orphanage, and Gin felt content for the first time in his life. He used what he had been taught by the old priest and spread his lessons to others, eager to share his happy experiences with them. He never really stopped, even as he grew to be an adult and the old priest passed away from old age. He would continue doing so until the day he died as well.
Skills: -Street smarts: Gin had to learn many tricks to live on the streets, and just because he became a priest doesn't mean he's lost them. Well, at least not all of them. Mainly he identifies trickery and deceit, among other things, from others, as well as using some of his own to outwit them. In addition, he possesses a decent amount of skill in pickpocketing.
-Silver tongue: Gin can and will speak quite eloquently when he feels the situation calls for it. Most of the time he just uses this to flirt with women, though that doesn't mean he won't be using it for other purposes.
Duel Disk: The Duel Disk, when not active, is shaped like the Sun, complete with a yellow center body and five orange rays. The Disk, when active, resembles a typical Duel Disk with the rays of the sun rearranging themselves to form the blade. All S/T slots are present and usable, and functions like a typical Duel Disk.
Speed Duel Skill: Call of the Light: You can Special Summon one LIGHT monster from your hand.
Ace Monster: Master Hyperion
Deck Master: Master Hyperion Deck Master Ability: Once per turn: You can banish 1 LIGHT Fairy-Type monster from your Graveyard, then target 1 card on the field; destroy that target. While "The Sanctuary in the Sky" is on the field, you can activate this effect up to twice per turn.
Personality: Gin is a kind and collected fellow, keeping faith in his religion, the Glory of Light, and spreading the word of it to those around him. He believes that through the Light will people find salvation and peace for their everyday lives, and will joyfully spend hours upon hours talking about it. He also finds womens' company enjoyable, and will spend much time trying to flirt with them. His passion for Light is what guides him through each Duel, and he always prays for the Light to guide the loser through their mistakes and find salvation, whether that be his opponent or himself.
History: Gin was abandoned at an early age, having to grow up on the streets. He would find whatever scraps of food and money he could, whether it was just lying around in the open or from peoples' pockets. It was a hard life, but he got by. One day, he had found a card on the ground. He looked at the front, then put in a pocket, figuring he could probably sell it off for some easy change. He had a more pressing matter to attend to, though, as he was following a man in black clothing. He looked rich, and seemed like an easy target. Gin made his move, but his outstretched arm was quickly grasped by the wrist. He tried to pull back, but the man's grip was firm. In Gin's struggles, the card Gin had picked up fell out of his pocket. Curious, the man bent down to pick it up, and looked surprised when he saw what that card was. The man handed Gin back his card and identified himself as a priest of the Glory of Light, then invited him to the church he was headed to. Gin was reluctant, but with an offer of food and a growling stomach, he couldn't refuse any longer.
As Gin tore through the contents of his plate, the priest revealed that he took an interest in Gin after seeing his card, revealed to be a Master Hyperion. The priest explained that he believed that it was fate that the Light guided Gin to him, and Gin was meant to be something great. Of course, Gin did not care one bit; he just wanted to get the heck out once he was done. With an offer of food and shelter in exchange of giving his faith a chance, though, Gin found his offer too good to pass up. And so, Gin found himself learning to be an upstanding member of society, from simple things like reading and writing to more complex topics like the Glory of Light's history and purposes. Of course, Gin also began learning how to play Duel Monsters. Gin learned many things about the priest, like how he was a retired pro Duelist Things were looking up for Gin, and while his new life was full of ups and downs, he was more or less content.
Time continued to move, though, and Gin couldn't stay at the church forever. The priest was one step ahead, however, and had already planned for one final test. He gave the news of a large tournament being held, and the two would enter it together. The one who won against the other would be worthy of the Light's guidance. While Gin was not exactly a firm believer of the Glory of Light, he saw no reason to turn down an invitation to beat the old man for once. The two made their way through the rankings, beating every opponent they faced, until they finally faced each other at the finals. Their Duel was filled with suspense and action, but Gin soon found himself getting overwhelmed. Just when the final blow was to be struck, Gin countered, turned it around, and delivered a surprise comeback on his next turn.
The priest and Gin parted ways after the tournament ended, and Gin was free to live his life. It wasn't long, though, before an invitation for Kaiba World™ came to him.
