Mason was trying to track what he could've sworn was movement in the forest. He knew he'd seen something - but only for a second. When Nya approached him, he glanced momentarily at her, then returned his gaze to the forest. It seemed he was not vigilant enough, as a volley of bullet took out Tarvas, not giving him a chance to fight back. As they were close to Tarvas, Mason instinctively push Nya out of the way, aiming at the gunner and firing a series of rounds from his massive weapon. He couldn't tell if any of the bullets had found their target, but Mason knew he wasn't too good of a shot.

He swore, turning to sky. "You're crazy. We're gonna fricking die out here because of you!" He spat, then returned to watching the forest.

I'm here... waiting for something to react to.
((Short Post is Short. Just wanted to get the ball rollin')

Mason stepped off the chopper, following the line and trying to stay towards the rear. To his irritation, Colt seemed to always stay in the very back of the line. Without speaking, Mason slowed his pace so that he would eventually fall to the rear. With Sky at the front, they were well covered, so Mason took it upon himself to guard the flank. This would've been successful, if he hadn't been contested by Colt. Whenever he slowed down to fall towards the back, the smaller boy slowed even more - it was like he was determined to be the tail of the group.

He finally gave up and settled with second to last. He carried the massive gun with little effort, following the recruits in front of him. A couple times, he would've sworn he saw something to either side of their line, but he ended up shaking it of as just his imagination.

Marie Calebs
9:00, Main Hall/Headmistress’ Office - Headmistress

Marie walked the hallway towards the Gym, but she first had a stop to make. She’d felt it as soon as she stepped out of Ben’s truck yesterday. Something felt, odd… different. The first year she’d come to Northwood, she’d been distraught to find out that there were certain places in the campus she couldn’t shadow-walk - Essentially, anywhere in the main hall. But this year - this year was different… When she’d gone down for breakfast, she’d felt something strange, disturbing even.

The shadows seemed to be pulled her towards them. It was as if she could hear small whispers around her - like the voice of a phantom the roamed the hall. At first she’d assumed it was just her jitters from the first day of school… but then it’d happened again. When she and Ben had left the cafeteria to go to music, she’d done something without trying - her hand began to dissolve into the shadows of the walls. Ben had acted quickly - he’d covered her up while she forced her hand back to normal.

She’d gotten out of it - but something was stuck in her head: a sense of pure fear. It had played at her mind throughout all of music class, and she’d been slightly distracted. She’d made up her mind to go to the headmistress and speak to her about it. Instead of exiting the main hall, she turned a corner and found her way to the headmistress’ door. She timidly approached it and gave three soft knocks.

“Come in.” The headmistress’ voice came from the other side of the room. It was plain enough, occupied by a desk, a couple cabinets, and a guest chair. Marie strode to this chair but didn’t sit just yet. “How can I help you Miss. Calebs?”

“Morning, Ms Standiford.” She began, sitting in the seat. “I- well.. this morning, I was walking to breakfast and I felt something a little… odd.” She said, not sure how else to describe it.

“To do with your ability?”

The younger woman nodded in response. “Y-yes, Ma’am… I - well, normally I can’t use them in the main hall…” She shifted slightly in her seat. “But… this morning, I felt - well, the opposite. I felt attracted to the shadows by the wall, like - like they wanted me to walk into them…” A flash of something crossed the Headmistress’ face.

“That is new.” She frowned. “And vexing. Thank you for telling me Miss. Calebs.”

“W-well, I- I also…” She fumbled with her words. “When my brother and I were going to music.. uh - my hand… dissolved into the shadows without my intention. Of course, I suppose it could’ve been the fact that I’m not a master of my ability yet, but it felt like it had to be somehow connected to the feeling I got this morning.”

“Noted.” Her lips pursed with what may have been worry. “Please feel free to come to me if you notice a change in this. It gets stronger or lasts longer.”

“Of course, Ma’am.” She nodded meekly and rose. With that, she turned and walked towards the door. As she walked towards the exit of the main hall, she felt tempted to try it - to try and walk into the shadows. She opted not to until she felt more comfortable. Marie continued walking, exiting the building and heading towards the gymnasium.
Mason was still wearing his uniform from the day when Sky's voice came over the intercom. He assumed that this was some over-zealous training exercise for the recruits. What choice did he have but to play along? He left the room after tucking the legs of his black cargo-pants into his boots. He plowed through the other recruits in the hallway, and glimpsed one of the instructors with a grim look on their face. A gut feeling hit Mason: that look wasn't fake... There was no denying the pain in a look like that. These guys weren't playing around.

The reality of the situation swept over him as he hurried towards the armory. He caught a glimpse of Estella in the hallway as exited the weapons room. When he was in the room, he pushed past someone towards a rack of large guns. He took the biggest one on the shelf and lifted it away. He set it on the table, quickly looked at it, and examined the weapon. He pressed buttons until he found the release for the ammo barrel, the shoved it back in. He quickly made sure he could use the weapon, grabbed it by the handles, and lifted it from he table. He had no problems clearing his own path through the recruits as he made his way to the roof.

He found Sky on the room and joined him. He looked down at him, giving him a once over. He looked stressed. He inhaled and then spoke. "What exactly are we up against?" As he spoke, his eyes wandered over towards Estella. God... He set his jaw. This was insane. Estella was a girl from Principle - she was used to luxury. He wandered his gaze through the other recruits. Mason wasn't personally afraid of anything, but in that moment he was afraid - he feared that his fellow recruits weren't ready to handle an Anomalous. He knew he had an advantage over them - he could lifted a bus. These were just teenagers as far as he knew... as far as I know... The thought recurred to him and her repeated the phrase to himself.

Maybe... just maybe, some of these recruits were also anomalous. He shook his head. That didn't matter. It was his job to help the rest of the recruits. It was his job to use his abilities to help others. He set his jaw and waited for further orders.

Seeing as we haven't covered that aspect of the CS's in the IC yet, I went ahead a changed Mason's gun choice. I took this liberty, assuming it would be fine because its been irelevant in the IC so far, but let me know if that's a problem.
Emma was pulled from her sleep, and her eyes fluttered open. She heard Monica softly beckoning her to wake. When she explained the situation to her, she nodded, and sat upright. When the women left, Emma slid from the mattress, tossing the holed blanket to the floor. She brushed the wrinkled from her jeans and red flannel shirt, then stepped into her hiking boots. She laced them up tightly, and walked outside to join Monica.

"I also need to find a new jacket." She muttered to the woman. Emma took her backpack that sat against the wall. She removed her pistol from the pack and checked it - she barely had a full clip of ammo. "I also have a whopping 7 bullets..." She added. She zipped up the bag and slung it over her shoulders.

Her right hand brushed her hip and she briefly wished she had her knife with her. She also wondered if Danny and Shannon had found her hints at the bed and breakfast. Thirdly, she wondered if the Enrique and his boys were okay. She wondered if Burkley had made it out after helping her get away.

She fixed the straps on her pack to hug her shoulders, then turned to Monica. "I'm good to go." She then looked at Ellis, was about to say something, then decided against it.

Abram - Apartment/Road - Sam/Tina/Co.

Abram was ready to get moving. He was patient while Tina was inside, as he sit against the hood of the car. He slightly stared off into space, not really paying attention. He was pulled from his thoughts when Leah jumped onto the truck hood.

"Hey, kid. How you holding up?" He asked.

"Not as Rubbish as I normally am." She muttered, rolling her shoulders.

Abe laughed a little. It slightly amused him to hear her accent. He'd heard plenty of brits speak - but they were adults. Leah was he first kid he'd ever heard with an accent. "How's the leg?"

"Feeling better, the pains starting to go away."

"Mm, well that's good." He was about to continue, but Tina came out of the building, and they exchanged their respective farewells. He opted to offer Adam the front seat so he could help guide him. Abram didn't know this part of the area very well. "C'mon, hop in." He told Leah, who slid from the hood of the car.

He turned to Sam and Turisa in the back. "Good to go?" He asked. Turisa nodded, then did Sam and Leah. "Off we go..." Abe said, and began the drive towards New Orleans.
Mason would've prolonged the fight, but he didn't, rather let Dyana walk out. This was for two reasons. He'd already beat the crap out of a girl today, and he didn't want to finish the job a second time. The second reason was that Dyana, Sky, and the other recruits thought his arm was broken - he couldn't reveal that it wasn't without giving away his anomaly. When Dyana had gone to break his arm, she'd heard a sound and presumed that sound to be his arm breaking and warranting his cry of pain. Mason's arm didn't break, but rather the sharp sound was his shoulder being torn from it's socket. He had a high pain tolerance, but that would put anyone in pretty bad shape for a moment.

Being an anomalous with superstrength, he found that it took far more than any normal person to break his bones. Being able to lift 3 tons also meant having the skeleton to withstand such pressure. The force of Dyana's move, which still hurt like crap, had dislocated his shoulder instead of fracturing his arm. Instead, he'd faked the broken arm and left the room, not bothering to watch the final fight. He found a vacant corridor, and checked a second to make sure no one was around to watch him. When he was assured he was alone, he grabbed his bicep, lifted his arm upward, and forced the bone back into socket. The movement of his bones forced a cry of pain from his lips, but he suppressed it as best he could.

By the end of the day, the soreness in his shoulder was gone, and he sat in his room after devouring about three plates of food at dinner. He stared at his boots as he sat on the edge of his bed and pondered the day's events. He had decided he strongly disliked all of the instructors. That didn't surprise him. He'd never liked members of the guard in Till. There had been a very select few that he could tolerate, but he normally despised the sight of them.He found it rather ironic that his situation had turned out like this.

Mason got up and grabbed the cold pack given to him by the infirmary staff. They would only give hive enough to reduce swell, and he was expected to heal on his own. Mason had no problem with that. He made his way to the door, opening it. While he held the pack to his arm like he would if he were actually hurt, he began wandering the halls. He passed the doors of the swimming pool and glanced to see a couple recruits in there, flirting away. He shook his head slightly. He found it slightly ridiculous that the instructors allowed them this kind of leisure. They were training to hunt down and possibly kill dangerous humans. It felt more like a crappy teen drama. Something told Mason that this atmosphere wouldn't be around for much longer. Something told him that soon, the real training would start...

Presently, he spotted Estella's door down the hallway. His eyes lingered for a moment, then he kept walking. His mind drifted back to the fighting class, and then to Estella recieving a black eye from Paige. He glanced briefly at his cold-pack. He sighed to himself, turned around, and marched back to Estella's door. He gave three pounds on it, and waited for her.

I'm here, I've just been horribly busy the past couple of days
Benedict, Katalina, and Amy | (@kittyluna45) (@Kirah)

After a couple more Stones songs, Cat's in the Cradle, and an upbeat rendition of American Pie, Ben and Marie had finished their playing for the day. He absently picked at the bottom strings of his guitar as Marie packed her own instrument away. "How come everyone loves the Stones?"
To this, Marie shrugged towards her older brother. “I don’t.” She muttered, and clipped her guitar case shut.
“Maybe it isn’t just the Stones, but the people playing,” said a voice familiar to Ben. Katalina had shown up, with a rather big smile on her face. “I know I appreciate it.”
Ben turned with a grin on his face, automatically recognizing the voice behind him. “I mean, hey. Marie’s the main attraction here.” He stood to his hand and offered a humorous handshake to Katalina.
Katalina took the hand and shook it happily. “Well, you’re both amazing. Also, hey Marie,” she said, offering a wave with her free hand. “You did get my letters this summer, right?” She asked, turning her head back to Ben.
“Letters?” He asked, feigning ignorance.
She gave him a look, and sighed. “You know what letters.”
Ben’s humor faded, but his eyes crinkled as he smiled lightly. “Yeah, of course I did.” He turned to Marie and said, “You good to go?” She nodded, heaving her case from the ground. She offered a shy wave to Katalina and turned to leave. Katalina returned the wave and smiled.
“Sorry I’m late! I heard you guys playing from my room, but was getting to know my new roommate.” Amy smiled. “It’s not Ash again, thank god.”
Katalina’s smile dropped. “That is because Ash is my roommate. Hey Amy.”
Amy with a sharp intake of breath, “Oh, I am so sorry.”
“Hm…” Ben observed. “She really did a number on you two, didn’t she?” He released a small laugh. “Should’a paired her with Marie, so she could let all that out to someone who really doesn’t care what she has to say…” He rubbed his chin, as if he was seriously pondering this.
Katalina shrugged. “It is alright. Maybe I can finally figure out why Ash dislikes me so.”
“Yeah, and maybe someday, phones will fit in your pocket and not have buttons.” He responded. “Besides…” He laced his fingers through hers. “I have no idea what she dislikes…”
Katalina smiled, seemingly accepting his hand. “Well besides Jamie and the lake, she doesn’t seem to like too much, but oh well.”
“Which with the lake basically off limits... You’re going to have fun watching her try to sneak out the window.” Amy says.
“Goodie. She can get mad at me when I tell Ms. Reese about it,” Katalina said.
“Oh,” Amy (remembering something) “I’ve got to go the library. I’ll see you guys later.” She runs off.
“See ya, Amy.” Ben calls after her. He breaths, then turns to Katalina. “Entertainment?” He asks, nodding to his guitar. She nodded and went to sit with him. “Any requests?” He cocks an eyebrow. “Just… no Stones... “
Katalina giggled. “How about Heart of Gold?” She asked.
“As you wish, M’lady. ” He said, faking a bow with his head. “As long as you promise to sing and not chicken out!” He plucked a red pick from his pocket and began strumming. Katalina blushed a bit and nodded, soon joining him by singing.
As he finished the final chord of the song, he sighed exaggeratedly. “Oh the great works of Mr. Neil Young.” He glanced down at the watch on his wrist. “I know we just sat down… but Dinner’s soon, and I still need to unpack…” He said.
“I do as well… see you at dinner?” She asked, standing up.
“Wouldn’t miss it.” He said, standing with his guitar. He bent down and lowered the instrument into it’s case, clipping it shut.
“Good, see you later then,” she said and gave a wave before walking off.
