Oh don't get me started on the whole Chris Pratt as Mario thing. I love him, but this is a blatant middle finger to the voice over community and it's definitely being felt. All my buddies are livid.

As a GM I love when people get excited and do that (as long as they're not doing anything game breaking). Getting excited and passionate for characters and the story is what it's all about! I love it.

Star Wars OC
Captain Maria Thorne

"Lass! Tha' latest blast was from th' bridge! Git down t' the engine room, backup controls are 'ere an' ready! Ah'm on damage control! Doc, meet me t'ere! Everyone else, stand clear!"

Maria cursed loudly, quickly setting the turret on automatic firing and literally sliding down the ladder, barely touching the ground before she started bolting through the ship. Automatic wasn't nearly as accurate as having an actual person man the gun, but it would keep the pirates busy until she got down to the engine room. Every fiber of her being wanted to run in the opposite direction to the bridge. Kev and Andrea had been up there, and to say she was worried was an understatement. Your crew was the closest thing you had to family out here in the black. They were the ones who patched you up when you got shot, who kept you fed, watched your back, and gave you a hand when you needed it. They were the few people that Maria trusted, and if anything happened to them, it would break her heart.

But they didn't have time for sentiment right now. The captain knew that Ansgar would update her on anything important, so she just focused on keeping them all alive. She reached the backup controls as quickly as humanly possible, and almost immediately the ship lurched, dodging a bolt fired from the opposing ship. The Veritas was back in motion. Without the aid of the glass shield of the bridge, Maria was having to rely completely on sensors and radar as the eyes and ears to the battle outside. It was different, but she adapted quickly, and soon had them firing shots back at the pirates from the Veritas' canons.

"Lass, th' bridge is shot. Complete loss without dry dockin' th' boat. Andrea's down, reckon fer good. We'll know w'en doc gets 'ere. I'm movin' back t' t'e engine room after doc gets up 'ere. Ain' nothin' I can do 'bout this rig't now."

Well, that answered that. Maria clung to a small whisper of hope that maybe Andrea would be fine once Kai tended to her, but Ansgar was no fool, and no doubt had a realistic assessment of things. With no hope of having the bridge back in time to finish the battle, Maria decided it would be best to get familiar with the backup controls real fast. They were going to need all the skill and precision the crew had to offer if they were going to survive this.

"Understood," she replied simply. Hopefully Ansgar would be able to do something to get their shields up and running again once he got down here, but for now she was going to have to do her best to keep them from taking any more damage. They already had one hull breach; they didn't need another to worry about. Not to mention the opposing ship was moving to board them.

Maria abruptly remembered the small fighter that had dropped into the battle before all hell broke loose, and searched on the scanners to see where they were. If the pirates had a fighter, it was possible they had more ships standing by as well, which was a thought that Maria rather wished she didn't have since it practically doubled her current stress level. They couldn't survive anymore ships. They were barely going to survive these two. It took her a couple of moments, but she did eventually manage to spot the tiny dot that indicated the fighter. Much to the captain's surprise, it wasn't circling the Veritas. It was circling the pirates, and as Maria watched, it began to fire on their canons, draining their shields and managing to take out one canon. She took this opportunity to fire the Veritas' canons, aiming for the pirates' remaining big gun. Maria also simultaneously hailed the fighter.

"Unidentified vessel, this is captain Maria Thorne of the Veritas Lux Mea. Please respond."

A moment passed, and then a female voice crackled over the link.

"Hiya captain!" the voice said. "This is the Bygul. I was passing by, heard some chatter, recognized the name of the ship, and noticed you seemed to be in a bit of a predicament. I thought I'd lend a hand."

"Glad to hear that you're friendly," Maria answered. That was the understatement of the century. "We've taken quite a beating so far. How's that tiny fighter of yours holdin' up?"

"Oh... You know. It's a bucket of bolts, but it hasn't fallen apart yet. Imma try and take out their docking clamps for you guys, since it looks like they're trying to board. Some cover fire would be nice, if you don't mind."

"I've gotcha."

Maria did her best to keep her promise, firing heavily on the enemy and trying to miss the Bygul. Thankfully, the pilot of the Bygul seemed to be fairly experienced, and did a good job of keeping out of the way of the canons while still getting her part of the job done too. The turret too was doing better than expected. Now that the pirates' shields were down, the playing field was leveled, and the fighter being on their side was starting to change the balance of this battle. The captain wasn't exactly optimistic, since their new "friend" could easily turn on them any second if the pirates bargained with her, but they definitely stood a better chance now than they had a few moments ago. Slowly but surely, the Veritas was starting to win.

The feeling of the ship beginning to move was of some comfort to Maira. Moving meant they' were on their way to being off this blasted rock, and that meant soon she would be safe from whoever was hunting her... Until they found her again. Maira knew that there was really nowhere in the galaxy that she could hide forever. One day they would find her, and the process would just keep repeating over, and over, and over again until the day she died. She was doomed to live her entire life running away like a coward, constantly looking over her shoulder, wondering when the big bad monsters were going to get her. A fine example of the Jedi indeed. She scoffed a little at her own situation, but there wasn't much use in dwelling on depressing, nerve wracking thoughts. Right now, she was just hoping that they made it out of the atmosphere and got properly on their way before anyone noticed she'd disappeared. There was a knot forming in her stomach, but she was trying to ignore it. It was just nerves. Nothing was going to happen, she was just nervous.

No sooner had those thoughts crossed her mind, the ship started slowing down. And then it stopped. The knot in her stomach was getting harder to ignore, and only grew worse when muffled voices started talking outside of the compartment they'd stashed her in. No one sounded overly hostile at the moment, thankfully, but there were distinct sounds of people stomping around. No doubt there were stormtroopers going on a "random" search of the vessel. Because why wouldn't they? Bloody perfect.

Maira could sense their movements and knew that they had missed the compartment. She started to get hopeful that maybe they wouldn't find her and would just move on. But of course, as the universe would have it, she wouldn't be so lucky. A new presence entered the vessel, one which instantly sent a feeling like shards of ice racing up Maira's spine. She had a very, very bad feeling about this. Whoever this new person was, they were a force user. The air around her started to reek of a very particular aura that could only belong to someone affiliated with the dark side. It's stench was unmistakable, and it made her recoil a bit as if the air itself could cause harm.

There was also something else to this new presence. It was warped, wicked, and it was impossible not to be aware of the brutal intent radiating from it, but it was also familiar. Somewhere under the layers of ice and darkness, the presence whispered to Maira that they had met before. Then it started approaching at an alarming rate, coming straight towards the compartment where she was hidden, and she rested a hand on her lightsaber.

Whoever they were, they knew she was here.

There was the sound of a panel opening, and then a few moments later the wall separating her from the rest of the ship contorted and whined, then was ripped away, leaving her completely visible to all who stood there.

Time seemed to stand still as Maira locked gazes with the black figure of the inquisitor, staring them down as if she were trying to see into their very soul. Which, she was. Maira knew this person, whoever they were, and frankly it was driving her insane. She had half a mind to think of something sarcastic to say, but before her mouth could open, the pilot of the ship attacked one of the stormtroopers and time resumed. Tings were going to get messy.

The lightsaber in her hand blazed to life, glowing a pale green, and she quickly dashed to get herself into a position that left her less cornered and vulnerable. As long as she stayed in that compartment, she was practically a sitting duck waiting to be chopped in half. As soon as she was standing fully upright, Maira turned to face the inquisitor. Her lightsaber was held in a defensive posture.

“I don’t suppose there’s any chance you’ll just… Leave and pretend this never happened?”
@Dark Light Awesome! Sounds good
Captain Maria Thorne & Andrea Malkis

There were no words to describe the sinking feeling in Maria's stomach as she saw a beam pass through where their shields used to be, and collide directly with the ship's hull, ripping away some of the beat-up plating. Now they had to worry about hull breaches, on top of everything else. Every blast seemed to make the ship rock and shudder even worse than the last, and the captain was half afraid the ship was going to shake apart before this battle was through. They were outgunned, out maneuvered (despite Andrea's excellent piloting), and there wasn't a snowball's chance in hell that they could outrun the other ship in their current state. This was bad. This was very, very bad.

"Cap, we've got another ship incoming!" Andrea's voice sounded over the captain's headset. No sooner had the words finished, a small fighter popped out of warp, right in the middle of their battle and started dodging shots fired by both ships.

Fighters were much smaller and maneuverable than both of the other ships, and thus posed a larger threat. The pirate ship may have had bigger guns, but they were also easier to hit back. At the moment the other ship's alliances were unclear. However, Maria didn't have much time to worry about it, as another shot wracked it's way over the ship. At least Ansgar had managed to get the fuel line fixed. Even now, Maria could hear the Veritas' engines humming to life, and a small ray of hope that they might survive this started to grow. If they could run, they could survive.

Andrea was doing her best on the bridge to make what little engine power they did have work, though throughout the course of the battle she yelled quite a number of colorful expletives. Most of them were aimed at the "bastard engine goblin." The figurines sitting on the dash had long since been strewn across the floor, and Andrea was hunched over her console, busily flipping switches and multitasking between making the ship dance clumsily through the sky and firing back at the vultures trying to scavenge their loot. She'd be damned if these pathetic bastards were her end.

"It took you long enough!" She hurled at Ansgar once he announced the line was repaired. Well, his version of repaired anyway. Given the amount of time he had, there wasn't much chance it was a five-star job, but it didn't have to be right now.

Their mystery ship still hadn't made their intentions clear, but Andrea had no doubt that they were some kind of backup for the bigger ship. A little parasite to finish off what the vulture couldn't. Hopefully they'd be able to outrun both of them, but Andrea wasn't going to get optimistic about the situation. It was taking the engines a couple of minutes to warm up, and the other ship was definitely taking advantage of it. Error messages were starting to pop up left and right, and a split second later the automated red alert siren started blaring out across the ship. Andrea was cursing. Among all of the other alerts going off, one in particular caught her eye, and she leapt to her feet, grabbing Kevej to drag him along with no explanation. She then shoved him in front of her and off the bridge. Immediately an explosion erupted behind the woman, propelling her forwards at an alarming speed and even lifting her off the ground. She literally flew off the bridge just as blast doors closed behind her, and then slammed into a wall with a sickening crunch.

Andrea went limp.

The entire ship would have felt that explosion, but it was doubtful they would differentiate between it and the other countless explosions in the past few minutes. The only reason Maria knew something was wrong was because there was a distinct lack of motion in the ship, though the engines were still running. They were no longer flying. They were drifting through space.

"Andrea, what's going on?"

There was nothing but white noise. Maria switched to ship-wide comms.

"Andrea! Kev! What the hell is going on?"

Yet another OC, but significantly less lazy!
