This was a hard one to score. Initially I didn't like it much at all, thought it was overly simplistic and didn't like the singer's tone. But after I listened to it again and payed closer attention I liked it quite a bit more. The guitar sounds kind of surf rock-ish, and though I still don't like the singer's voice overall he has a pretty good flow. And the chorus is certainly catchy.

Why do you RP?

Because I want to create a story with other people. And I enjoy not knowing exactly how that story's gonna unfold.

Alright, here's how I'm gonna proceed.

When I wake up in the morning I'm gonna open the thread for new applicants to fill Silver Carrot's spot, but I'm not gonna let someone have the spot until I see a full character application and accept it. Whoever gets a satisfactory application in first will get the spot.

Also @Blue Dog please let me know if you're still interested in this.

Anyone who's already got a character, feel free to go ahead and put up your first post if you want to. It's totally up to you. I apologize for the delay thus far. The main problem is that this RP can't function with only 3 characters. I could do some tweaking and go with 4 instead of 5 if it's necessary, but 5 is what I planned around and would be ideal.

I have 7 trial ideas so far that I've plotted out and tested, and I've got a skeleton script for my next two posts, so once this gets underway things should proceed much more smoothly.

I decided to write a sample character based on my own rules. Most of it is done but I'll have to type up and edit in the rest when I get off work tonight.

@Blue Dog @Silver Carrot Maybe this will give you some ideas? Even if not, this was fun to do!

Sample Character

Name: Brian Jacquelyn Walker

Approximate Age Range: Early 20’s

Gender: Male


Appearance: Brian stands at a middling height of 5’9. He weighs 163 lbs but tends to appear a bit thinner due to his arms; his forearms are fairly slim and his biceps are budding but unimpressive. In contrast his hands are rugged and worn, a result of his hobby of woodworking. He is broad-shouldered but lacks the muscle definition to appear threatening or strong. His dark brown hair is kept short on the sides but is a bit fuller on top, which often leads to rather serious bed head upon waking up. He often keeps a scraggly beard, more out of an unwillingness to shave than any attempt at fashion. Brian’s unusually bushy eyebrows dwarf his small brown eyes. Underneath those eyes are dark circles of sleeplessness that never seem to go away.

Attire: Brian wears a green plaid button-up shirt with thin black stripes, its long sleeves hiding much of his arms. His light blue jeans are somewhat baggy and tend to bunch up at the junction between the lower legs and feet. He sports time-worn black Reebok tennis shoes, the shoelaces appearing frayed and the back of the left shoe’s sole vainly attempting to escape. Wrapped firmly around his neck is a simple necklace, the thin black links separated by azure beads.

If you met this person on the street and didn’t know them, what would be your first impression of them? At first glance Brian doesn’t seem very warm or forthcoming. He tends to move his exhausted-looking eyes from place to place without turning his head, seeming to hope no one will notice him if he doesn’t look directly at them. He keeps his hands in his pockets and walks quickly, as though always late for an appointment. He wears a mask of stoicism as he moves, his mouth never edging toward amusement or anger. One would notice a slight southern accent if one could get anything more out him than a dispassionate ‘Hey’.

Hometown: Lexington, Kentucky

Marital Status: Single

Occupation: Factory worker/ Busboy

Favorite/Least Favorite Food: Brian is very fond of pork chops, and absolutely despises cucumbers.

Favorite Genre of Music: Though not a huge fan of music, Brian enjoys classic country music and some alternative rock. He also harbors a fondness for Miles Davis, as his father played the jazz musician’s records quite often during Brian’s younger years.

Hobbies: Woodworking, running, drinking

Something That Annoys Him: People who talk too loud and/or demand your attention

Something He Fears: Being stuck with his family

Future Goals: Becoming a building contractor, getting away from his mother

Man, you guys have good taste. I don't think I'm in too much danger Atrophy, as much as I love Crimso some of their stuff is too weird and discordant even for me.

Hope you get to see Yes Bliss! I've only listened to Fragile and 90125 so far, but they're both damn good.

Been quite a while since I've heard Rise Against. I should give them another listen.

I'm a classic rock kinda guy at heart, but I've broadened my horizons quite a bit the past few years. Even got pretty deep into hip hop, something I never thought I'd say.

I usually switch up what I listen to every month or so. Right now I'm digging prog rock, been listening to a lot of Yes and King Crimson lately.
