A friend of mine once told me that 'it's only ego if you can't back it up'. Too many people like to confuse confidence for arrogance -- there's a big difference.

Not to get all psychological, but some people are actually just 'wired' to take things people say literally. I'm like that to an extent, but I've learned that people here are usually just shitposting.

Happy Anniversary, Ailyn. Six years ago, you gave me a kindred soul, and brought light into a life which for all intents and purposes had been mostly nothing but darkness.

Valentine's Day's bittersweet when you've endured a long-distance relationship for over five years. Here's to celebrating the strength of a meaningful bond, instead of taking a shallow and easy path.

This bio will get reconstructed once I've left the site for good. I'll be collecting my data in the background for now, and sorting some loose ends. I'll be on and off to do it, so don't think I'm back if you see me around. Once I've dealt with everything, I'll log out properly and remove my 'ghost' status, and that'll be the last this site sees of me. This community is in serious need of growing up, and I'm not the least bit surprised that role-plays die here so frequently.

The 'Grim Reaper's Gambit' role-play is likely to reboot elsewhere eventually. The role-play will have some modifications, so contact me if you're curious since the original project won't accurately explain everything. There's no determined date for it to happen yet, since I've got other priorities and I'm not investing a lot of time in it until enough of the people interested have free time to properly commit (lack of dedication on the part of some players practically destroyed the previous version; it's very apparent it would've died even if I hadn't decided to leave). There's a group that're quite interested, but most of them are busy.

Anyway, come back later for an update later -- or don't; it's your life.

Tell me who you are or I possibly won't accept the request, since I assume most requests are bots.
Yes, people who I rarely/never spoke to - or who never met me - while I was still here are welcome.
No, those who disrespected me (and aren't sorry) while I was here or are trolls/immature in general aren't welcome.
Also, keep in mind that not all of these are currently being used actively, so friend request replies might be delayed on some of them.

(I'm fairly easy to contact through here, though I'm not really gaming much due to my main project's workload.)

Discord: Shoryu Magami#4323
(Unlike Skype, I primarily text chat on this instead of voice chat. It's currently one of the easiest ways to find me. It causes my PC a lot of problems though.)

Skype: solitaryangel1983
(Usually running on my phone, mostly so I can talk to my fiancΓ©, so it's easy to find me here. I've currently got no access to it on PC. It might take a while to see requests.)

Facebook: James Koutsoukis - Shoryu Magami
(Barely ever on this, but it exists. Mostly exists so @Ailyn Evensen can list me as her fiancΓ©. You'll find me easily on messenger if you add me, but I don't do much else.)

Yahoo IM: shoryu_magami
(Does this even still exist anymore? It used to be my main method of text chat, but it's not on my current PC.)

So like a 'choose your own adventure' book, but a cartoon? I'd be surprised if this doesn't exist, though it's probably not anime.

@Snagglepuss89

Pretty much. I've been planning to operate very much on an adaptive level, rather than a pre-planned level. Even a lot of the puzzles will be created as I go, to make things more engaging or interesting and to give the IC development more freedom. I figured I'd just get the 'bare bones' of the murder system organized first. There'll certainly be plenty of things threatening your lives even if none of you become killers, which is another reason I don't plan to force the murderer role on anyone and leave it all to IC development. Really, the role-play as a whole won't suffer too much from it -- the murder element might just be a bit less prevalent.

Anyway, I'm gonna head off to rest now. I should have my PC tomorrow, though it's uncertain if it'll be set up.
@tsukune

I don't believe I write anything - whether IC or OOC - that doesn't serve a purpose or have significance -- it's all adding depth/quality to something that'd be incomplete or lifeless without what I wrote. Whether the pace is interrupted is largely a matter of subjective preference, and I don't intend on changing the style of writing that I like just because someone has a problem with it -- plenty of people like what I do anyway. I'm not saying you're actually telling me to, but this is just a forewarning for anyone who gets the idea in their head to try and tell me how to write.

With the OOC, I try to make sure the important comments are given to people through a notification. It's borderline impossible to give a 'TL;DR' to the content that I write because it'd completely decay the details which make up the actual quality of what I'm saying or asking people to discuss, but so long as people respond to anything in the status updates that's relevant to them, there shouldn't really be any foreseeable problems. Details are vital when running an advanced role-play -- this is even more the case for a role-play with a lot of emphasis on realism. I don't type a lot because I think people're stupid -- I do it so we're thorough. Nevertheless, I do the best I can to keep things as simple as possible without the meaning being lost, which is why I usually say things like 'I need people to discuss X idea' and sometimes add bold if things're more urgent. Using the point format that I create for my status updates is the best way I can think of to give you guys updates and tell you what you need to give feedback on.

I do understand that you're busy, but what I don't like is when people get the idea that they're the only one who's busy. A lot of people involved in this are busy; in fact, for all intents and purposes I work a sixteen hour a day job due to my data management. I might not get 'payed' to do it, but anyone who disrespects how hard I'm working (again, not saying you are, since I'm just putting this out on the table) won't be tolerated -- no exception. That said, I do try to be understanding, but I need to take everyone into account here, including myself. We've all got stuff we need to do in and out of the role-play, and I need to make sure everyone in this group remains on the same page.

With the collaboration, I've been considering whether or not we're technically up, since we could enter the restaurant. At the very least, we should find out from Pudd if they'd like us to write an entry post so they can react to it, or if they'd prefer to skip that scene. I don't usually like skipping scenes unless we're all certain nothing would happen or be said, and without Pudd's input we don't know for sure.

Overall, it looks like the voting system will be getting removed as I planned, unless someone gives me a good reason not to. I'm still contemplating the problems that could be created by the player characters not being as pressured to kill each other though.

In other news, I don't have my new computer yet. Issues came up, but we'll try again tomorrow.
@Mae

You're in. Now we just need one more person.

It's funny that we get one of our original members right as I'm making my previous post.
@Luna_Maria

Lol, I figured it might take a little while. The only reason the first few games got going so fast was due to it having more or less most of the same people each time, but a regular or two pull out each time. Heck, even @Pudding hasn't jumped into this next one. It's possible they think everyone'll just point at them instantly due to the last game, despite me always picking the murderer at random.
@MayLien@CrazyShadowy

First off, just figured I'd mention that it was a good collab guys. Henneth's a pimp, huh? I guess his 'Private CS' has been revealed earlier than expected.

Anyway, seems we've got another opinion in favour of removing the voting system. You don't need to worry about urgency/stress elements being missing, because I've got a lot of them planned and intend to add more as we go. I get the feeling you guys'll be sweating bullets when you realize some of the stuff I've got loaded up. The real concern was just about whether or not removing the voting system would make it too easy for your characters to survive, or make it less likely to have internal conflict in the group -- the latter is something Bonaparte would be aiming to create constantly.

I'll be heading out in the next few minutes to get my PC.
@tsukune

Good to know the exams are almost over, and yeah, you've mentioned the job to me before. I'm totally not jealous of people who get payed to write. Considering how much work I do each day without payment, yeah... Lol.

Honestly, a long collaboration like that one's inevitable. This is an advanced role-play, meaning that really long posts are to be expected, and anyone who's got complaints about having a lot to read shouldn't be in advanced role-plays to begin with -- 'TL;DR' mentality doesn't exist for advanced writers, and I made this very clear in the interest check. Not saying you're complaining about it, but just pointing out that it's not surprising to get long posts. The biggest problem was the delays getting it started, which largely came down to my technology issues. Also, this collaboration evolved from just some group post until the post that closes a chapter, and the additional stuff that got added into it due to our discussion over Discord made it significantly longer too. Anyway, if you think this is long, just imagine how many pages a collaboration will be when a good portion of our group's part of it.

With the voting system:

You've pretty much just confirmed what I said. When you get technical about it, the murder mystery system involving freely deducing and investigating the culprit are actually far more classic than the idea of a voting system. What people don't seem to realize is that both systems would be happening at the same time, if the voting system was used at all.

Anyway, like you, I personally prefer real time deduction/investigation over using a voting system, but my attitude towards whether this system is used or not is pretty much exactly what I brought up with @aviendha already. We don't need to worry about people mixing IC drama with OOC drama, because this group's mostly civil and the rules have already stated I'll kill people who behave like this (and unlike people who die due to IC development, those who die for breaking OOC rules won't have the luxury of staying in play after death). While I can't see what goes on behind the scenes, so I don't know if there's bickering in our group OOC, any indicating that a character is attacking another character in the IC without IC development justifying it will be punished.

Really, my only concern for allowing the punishment of culprits - after a successful murder, since there's ways the murderer can die during their attempts - to be left entirely in the hands of the players is the concern that it makes things too easy for the protagonists. I've made no secret of the fact that Bonaparte brought you all here to have you die, so why would he create a scenario that he can't possibly win? All it'd take is for the whole cast to decide not to use initiative in dealing with the murderer(s) in their group, and the amount of people dying would be massively reduced or at least largely slowed down. The only thing that the voting system added was ensuring that the game actually moved forward without it being easy to survive. Thankfully, I've been developing plenty of other ways that the players could die, so the system isn't too important, but I still think this has been a concern we needed to all discuss.

Anyway, it's seeming pretty apparent that my opinion that we should remove this system (it's why I brought it up) is being validated by people's responses. You two (Tsu and aviendha) are both people who expressed preferring we not use this system to me either in PM or over Skype, but - like I mentioned in my last post - I wanted people to give their thoughts here directly so the whole group could see everything on the table. I didn't want to just post 'hey guys, I'm removing the voting system after it's been an established feature for months now', so having a discussion made more sense to me. It's meaningless if people don't contribute though.

@Ailyn Evensen

Don't beat yourself up, Amanda. At least you're contributing, and even if you didn't realize it you've actually made a rather good point. There's plenty of reasons to remove the voting system, but so far no one's chosen to - or been able to - provide a reason why it's a good idea to keep it. The closest thing to a good reason is my comments about not wanting it to be too easy for the players to survive, which I'm plotting multiple solutions for and I'm open to people's comments regarding. So, actually, you've contributed more than you think. Honestly, there's only so many things people can contribute anyway, and I'm mostly just looking for everyone's feelings about the system. My mind's been inclined to remove it for months now, and I'm just waiting for people's thoughts.
@ArenaSnow@BrobyDDark

>Waking up. Fixes a typo from last night.

Lol, you two.

Anyway, yeah, I didn't read too much into it, but I find it entertaining that the thread topics are getting a lot weirder, unless the spam forum just got a lot tamer around the time I joined and now it's going back to normal or something.
